Root Idiots rooting help request

Under "ABOUT PHONE" I have this:
Firmware 2.1 Update-1
Baseband S:i500.04 V.DI01
Kernal 2.6.29
Build SCH-I500.DI01

I'm thinking I did something wrong.

It is supposed to be:
StupidFast Kernal V1.54 DJ05

Haha sorry didn't proof read..had a swypo

I was trying to say is it possible to d/l dj05 and it not show up in the build and baseband?
Ah yes the swypo, been there done that
If you properly install the modem tar in odin and clockwork flash the dj05 rom zip it will change both your build and baseband, it cant not

Ok I didn't think so but when I doubt my opinion I look for yours or nit's :D

yeah it automatically updates the build.prop file when system files are updated...i mean you can manually do it yourself (and some rom devs will) but what you have is what most of us are looking at

That kernel is actually a reference to eclair and settings will never display the kernel we flash on from jt or geeknik. 2.6.29 is eclair when/if we get froyo kernel will say 2.6.32

lol I was saying it because his baseband and build said DI01 and he was trying to get DJ05 or at least thats what I thought..

Oh gotcha, yeah stupidfast does work with DI01 or DJ05, not sure larry thought merely kernel flashing would give him DJ05 or what  but of course it doesnt

Why yes, I did in fact!

All these seperate parts are odd. I honestly used to flash ROMs on my Windows Mobile 6.5 phone quite regularly, always looking for a ROM that would deliver better performance and yet allow me to have the functions I wanted... all while looking for a theme that would hold my interest.

The difference I see is that this system is more fragmented. For this you have seperate radios, seperate kernals, seperate ROMs and seperate themes. Am I missing anything? Likely, I am!

So here you have to learn your way in and out of multiple software packages, various backup plans and unique procedures for each facate of installed upgrades. This is a much more intense system to dabble in!

So SAPS... fellow sprinkle cheese lover..... as you seem to be a keeper of all links, do you have a link for something like... "The IDIOTs guide to kernal flashing"?

Sprinkle:confused::confused::confused: you mean dumper ;). Larry you gotta go by the SF lounge I asked a question of the day about cheese but no one is jumping on it :(

Anyway, kernel flashing almost does not need a guide, its really just too simple to do in RomManager these days.
However, if you were asking for a DJ05 guide there is one for flashing the modem tar [below]. From there you just need any Dj05 rom to be flashed in clockwork and you're golden.
Im not entirely sure this is what you wanted or not larry so let me know. Im going to be not here for several hours starting now but all the DJ05 files are in the redrum_chaos channel in IRC

I am currently installing cwm with Odin and it seems to have hung up. Odin is stuck at the initializing phase and it has been there for about 2 minutes now...any ideas as to what I should do?

You put the phone in download mode have the proper samsung drivers.......odin recognizes your phone and u loaded clockwork with the pda button?

I did all of that and odin is just stuck. Now i am guessing the phone is bricked...keeps giving me the "phone ! computer" symbol. I am trying redo the odin step and it keeps hanging up at initializing

now I have a new issue. When my phone rebooted for the first time after installing clock work...it started ringing and the error message "The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." is popping up. When I try to click force close I get the My Uploads (google uploader process)has stopped unexpectedly...what the hell?

My phone actually bricked..I wasnt able to get past the FC to do ANYthing, couldn't factory reset and couldnt reinstall.

Thank god i bought it 2 weeks ago. Took it in to Verizon and got a brand new one for free.

no, your phone wasnt totally bricked. if you can boot at all and get fc hell...it completely fixable as almost all of us have been there and recovered.

im not gonna go on another lecture about returning "bricked" phones (i think my feelings are well known by now about this)...but if you plan on rooting again i would avoid kernels and roms until you feel confident enough to recover from whatever situation arises
