I would SO love Sprint's Motorola Photon 4G to look like the Droid Bionic that is going to be released on Verizon.
CS is a non issue to me. I perceive them all equally inept, though don't see why one would need to contact either in lieu of sprint, unless you mean speed of updates, and I'd say while HTC is known to be faster, it's like comparing two turtles; more so, they both filter through Sprint so get bogged down and delayed-delayed-delayed regardless.
I look at it like (and perhaps Haxsung folks can chime in) Samsung is infinitely slower on the dev/cook side and I can't definitively say why. Development always just seem more snappier over on XDA, but I'm hopeful this myopic perspective I have is merely because the Samsung Moment is has been tech, and that there is in fact a great deal of dev work on newer Samsung models. You see. I REALLY want the SSG2 to work because it seems a better phone in terms of weight, battery life, video playback support potential, and design, imo.
However, if the dev is indeed as pathetic on the Galaxy line as it is on the Moment, then I'll go Evo 3D like I went Hero. I want a phone that, when past its prime (i.e. Hero), still gets 'unofficial but stable' android updates months before the carriers release and w/o the bloat (Thank YOU aosp!). This is CRUCIAL for me, as I'm a firm believer that the warranty must be broke in the 1st week and that an unrooted Android device user might as well be an iPhone user (yes, I said it, because I'm a cheeky bastard!).

I'm keeping my eye on the Photon... From what I understand if they change that Tegra 2 from 1ghz to 1.2ghz we might actually see some of the same numbers the S2s Exynos 1.2ghz produces.
I don't really like the form-factor of the Photon however if that is really a picture of it. I'm still guessing the Photon is going to be Sprint's version of the Bionic. I just have this funny feeling.
Only thing that concerns me about the Photon is Motorola typically uses a PenTile display. I really, really, don't want a PenTile display.
Either way, I'm still getting the Evo3D. I just have my mind set at this point from an overall perspective considering all factors on a personal level.

Yeah, I definitely try not to put too much stock into rumors or hype. The great thing about this year is, I really don't "have" to upgrade (which was not the case for me last year). And I feel like my choices between the different phones are going to be much more difficult than it's ever been for me.
I can't say that I completely "hate" the form factor of that phone from China or the X2 or the Atrix, but ideally...I am hoping that the Photon is Sprint's version of the Bionic w/ a 4.3 (instead of 4.5) screen and a kickstand. And I hope your "funny feeling" really ends up to be more of a premonition.
June 9 is just around the corner, so I'm actually quite excited to be able to compare and really start to lock down on a decision whether to upgrade or just wait another year.

Well the Bionic is even somewhat a shadow of its former self. It possibly has a new CPU/GPU in addition to the screen being switched from a 4.3" to a 4.5". It just dwarfs the Atrix now at 4.0":

Damn...alll.....offf....yyouuuuuu. I have till July 21st to get my new Sprint phone. Anyone have quick links to SG2 & Photon or a comparison of all three (I know some will be rumored specs)? Wouldn't mind getting something else if it is indeed better. I've waited this long if I had to wait till August I could.

I used to feel the same way, but from what I've read in the Samsung/Apple lawsuit discussions, it seems there's a case that maybe Apple took their ideas from an earlier Samsung. Tech partners and competitors - curiouser and curiouser.

Absolutely worthless. They basically looks at a spec sheet and assign arbitrary scores. I'm not even convinced they had final hardware of either phones the date this was published (apr 12). Talk about FUD.
Well we should have full specs of the Photon June 9th; I'm still curious what changes Sprint makes to the SG2; then again if I can grab a evo3d by the 22nd that might be handy (I have a trip on the 23rd). Hum... To be honest if there are no major flaws with the evo3d and the battery has decent life then I might tolerate the extra weight. I just can't stand weak antennae and so far everything I've read about the SG2 that is the weakest spot of the phone (and it seems a bit of quality control here and there but at least you can fix that issue with an exchange).

I thought pretty much the same thing. They write off the 3VO as a cheap gimmick phone with some 'decent' beef under the hood, and praise everything about the GSII and say that it is incredibly superior under the hood and at a glance.
One thing that did confuse me was they mentioned that the 3VO will have a variant on storage, 1 gb or 4gb. That article is the only place i have ever seen it mentioned, so that was a curiosity that really struck me.

So far as we've seen, that seems to be a spec difference between the European and the US model - but honestly, that's all blogspeak snd we're guessing the truth on that difference.

Well I think part of the confusion here is the phone has 1GB of 'ram' for the processor and 4GB of flash for storage. It also has a ROM (not sure how large) and I've seen a lot of mixing/matching/swapping of the three numbers. I saw one person listing the RAM value as the ROM value and then in the text stating that was for user programs... This becomes more confusing when some of reviews try to understand that the storage area has been partitioned into different usage. Anyways I don't think this is a USA/Europe thing but rather reviewers not understanding the different types of memories and that the flash memory can be partitioned for different usage.
No, it really doesn't have some additional ROM, that's part of a different confusion. (Near as I can tell started by single post in our forums with a typo that's been propagated at internet speeds far and wide ever since.(*))
The 4 GB eMMC is the ROM. All phone ROMs are flash, they simply decided to stand up and call it by a proper name after more than a decade of abusing the word, ROM.

The 3vo has - if you prefer - 4 GB of ROM (eMMC type) - or 4 GB eMMC - or 4 GB internal storage --- and 1 GB RAM.
The 4 GB on this phone will partitioned into areas for: bootloader (HBOOT), NV and PRI partitions, wimax, radio, and then the large area for Android+installed apps (rooters call this last collection of software a rom as if there isn't enough confusion on this); it may optionally contain a reserved, blank area for update expansion of any of the previous areas. IOW, the 4 GB will divide into 6 (or optionally by HTC, 7) areas; same as the Evo or the Shift.
In addition to the 1 GB RAM and 4 GB eMMC (ROM if you like), it will also have the traditional microSD card (also flash memory).
No ROM chips are shown on the 3vo schematic leaked by the FCC, no ROM area is specified in the Snapdragon 8660 data sheet from Qualcomm.

Fun blogosphere tip - whenever you see a news blog use expressions like "a little birdie told me" or "one of our sources we can't name" -- look at the timestamp of the story (if they even man up and have one) and compare it with timestamps and _wording_ of posts here by googling for "androidforums (key phrases from the story)" --- (remember, follow the timestamps) you may be surprised what the source of a lot of "news" is on the internet, from time to time.
Scenario plays out often: specs or facts known, innocent user makes a typo, it's picked up by some blog, it gets discussed here (largest and oldest Android forum), then it propagates until no one and everyone owns the story.Then we as a group deconflict it until next time.
They also pick up stories that are correct. In a stunning turnaround from past practices, one outside blog picked novox77's posts for their news source on HTC's encryption plans and had the decency to name him as the source.

Hum. I know the difference between ROM and Flash. I'm just amazed that the boot loader and some of the basic I/O functions are not in ROM. It would seem horribly easy to kill the device if don't know what you are doing when you flash the root partition.

Rule one we pass out to people on rooting: read, read, read before begining and then begin by reading. People keep telling me it's impossible to brick these modern phones by rooting. They just haven't seen the posts I've seen. People can, will, and actually have tried flashing stuff with 80 warnings that his is for Brand A, Model B only - onto their shiney new Brand C phones. End of story, get the mortar to go with the new brick.
