Root I'm Having Some Issues... Performing.

First, and foremost, thanks to everyone that has helped me thus far. You guys rock! Your answers, insights, and walkthroughs are friggin' BOSS!

Ok, so I have an Evo 4G. I recently flashed Amon Ra 2.3, MikG 2.61, and Aggressive Freedom. I have 2 problems with how my phone is performing...

Problem 1: I have to say that my battery life was never bad, even with the stock ROM and kernel. However, since I flashed MikG and Aggressive Freedom I have noticed that my battery life SUCKS! I get approximately 3-4hrs less time with much less use. I have the Sprint extended battery and this comes out to about 6hrs of use (I'm used to 10hrs).

I have done some things to try to mitigate this such as:

  • turn off vibrations
  • turn off GPS
  • turn off "Talk" auto sign-on
  • screen timeout at 1min
  • screen brightness at approx. 30%
  • setup power saver to turn off everything, just in case, at 15%

I never use Wi-Fi or 4G, but I also just got Y5 to toggle wi-fi for when I may come into contact with a wi-fi I can use.

My SetCpu is set to 998max 245min on smartass.
**I have one profile (screen off) set at 245max 245min

Problem 2: I have the sdcard that came with the phone. I used DarkTremors a2sd to move my apps and dalvik cache to the sdcard. I thought this might free up space, make the damn thing run faster, etc. I don't have that many apps anyways.

However, it seems like it may have made my phone a bit slower, or at least less smooth. I have had a couple force quits on the browser app "internet" specifically, and it seems like my apps take their sweet ass time to do what they gotta do.

With all that said... Is this unusual? Could this be kernel related, or am I just a bonehead? How/What would yall suggest I do to remedy my battery and "smoothness" problems?

Thanks for everything AndroidForum-ers! :D

i would suggest trying different kernels... your phone may run great on one that someone else said was terrible for theirs... your a2sd issue may be due to having the factory card... i use dt with the factory card without issues but, just like kernels, YRMV... most suggest an upgrade in sd card in order for dt to work properly.... i would remove dt and see if that, along with a different kernel, has a positive result for you... you may have to try 3 or 4 kernels until you find one that works smoothly for you... be patient...

To add to this Keep the kernels on for a few days atleast. Give them a chance to Settle in.

everyone here is correct.

1. with kernels give it a few days to settle in. if you are still not having good battery life then move on to the less freedom and just keep moving on down the list. you can also try a different kernel all together. there is chop suey and golden monkey that you can also try. also what is your setcpu setup?

2.you need a higher class card if you want to move apps to the card. the reason is that since the apps are running on the card, it will rely on the card's read and write speeds. so slower cards mean slower performance on apps. this is the card that i have:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/413571-sharin-love-16gb-class-10-card-25-a.html. i never had any issues with this card and it is cheap.

I'll just chime in again that yes, kernels are a picky thing. You just need to try all of them to see what works best for your phone. Even though the Freedom series is undervolted (or at least most of them are), it's possible that you will see better battery life on the stock kernel than any custom kernel. But definitely give them at least 2 and preferably 3 days to fully settle in so you can really see what you have on your hands. If you flash a new kernel every day, you are definitely not giving it enough time to gauge true performance.
