Root I'm ready to get dirty...

chmodx

Android Enthusiast
I'm currently on stock 2.2 froyo.

I want to go pro :)

Where the heck do I start? I don't want to lost anything on my phone, app or data, so what are the procedures for backing up my phone and saving the image of it?

And where do I get the 595 leak from?

easy, first you need to root with z4 root
once you install it, reboot, then perm root, from there download titanium backup from the marketplace (free) then download droid x bootstrapper (1.99) or you can get it free from kousch website, you are also going to need to get droid 2 bootstrapper, i say droid x because its only a matter of time before he sends an update for it, that allows us to use it on the official gb, open titanium backup, and backup all user apps and data
once they are all backed up, download the first leak of gb that came in 3 files, install each in order!
then install the .588 leak witih the updated kernel version
then go for the .595 leak
in order to go back to froyo you have to sbf which is simple. and that can be found in rooolers guide

you honestly need to get the Team Black Hat app, i dont know the website to go to. i think its teamblackhat.com but not 100% sure try it out, if you have twitter, follow p3droid, or teamblackhat, they have the link in there
it could be mydroidworld.com

If I'm reading your post right, you can not create a backup of Froyo then flash GB and use your backup later if something goes wrong. Froyo isn't compatible to GB. If you use that Froyo backup on GB you will just cause yourself to bootloop and you will just have to SBF back to Froyo anyway.

Do as VoidedSaint said and look for RoOolers guide. You will find all you need to know and do in there. Good luck.

alright...lets do this...step by step...since this is your first time we are gonna do this step by step and very thorough....

before we get going however...we need to first verify that you are not just on Android 2.2 but on 2.2.1 as this is the latest version of the Droid X OS, and what is required for getting to Gingerbread.

i have actually successfully flashed back to a froyo build of apex from the leaked gb, with no bootloop, maybe its was just luck, but i did do it

Your guess is as good as mine. I can just tell others what others have told me. And everyone says you cant flash a Froyo backup on GB.

Hi,

Sorry, yes I am on 2.2.1, build 2.3.340.

I've downloaded z4root thus far.

reboot after installing z4root
after the reboot perm root!
then download titanium backup and back up all apps/data
then download Droid X Bootstrapper ($2) (you need this to install roms, no way around it)
then open it, hit bootstrap recovery
allow superuser access
hit ok
then hit reboot recovery
from there with vol down rocker scroll to backup/restore
select it with the camera button, and MAKE A BACKUP!!!
takes a few moments
once its done, use your backbutton to return to the previous screen, and reboot
then download the rom of your choice and let us know when you have :)

I did the perm root.

Downloaded Titty backup, I hit the backup/restor tab up top and it brought up a list of all my apps. Is everything backed up automatically or what do I need to press? I saw there's a create update.zip on the menu function but didn't do that.

the droid 2 bootstrapper is needed for GB once you have it installed!

the droid x bootstrapper will eventually be used again once the official ota comes out, just gotta wait for kousch to update it,
you can download the droid 2 bootstrap free from kousch website
My Brain Hurts: Droid X Recovery (and Droid 2 too!)

i asked you to buy the dx one because once y ou download one free it doesnt receive the updates that you will need, hence why you need to buy the dx one and then download d2 free

I made the backup in Bootstrap. Now do I wipe data, and then wipe cache? It's warning me it will wipe everything out with the wipe data. I'm holding steady here

the files are out in the open in addition to on tbh, fyi. I'm a bit too busy to get them, right now, but I just wanted you to know. :)

I've got the 3 parts of 588, and the 595 files loaded on the sd card ready to go, but I'm still holding in bootstrapper. I'm holding after making a backup.

Lol I got impatient and think I figured it out. It's currently booting for the first time, logo is red so "sumthin's up." It's taking a while, but I understand this is to be expected. Keeping fingers crossed.
