IMPORTANT: HUGE update to AndroidForums.com

This is way too much complicated BS for an apk.. Tapatalk gonna be the end of AF APK's if you don't get this right. In fact, I believe AF is gonna lose out big time in all areas if you guys don't stop making the site a grief to use.. You're actually destroying something that was good. As in "if it's not broke, LEAVE IT THE HECK ALONE!!"

Feel the same way too. The old app has its bugs but still works for the most part. Sadly (lol) my phone, as of right now can't run anything higher than level 18 API so looks like I'm stuck using old app until support completely disappears. Bummer...

@stevealbright any way to get the notifications under control? This is a little silly.

It's not like we just thought up a bunch of extra, behind the scenes, features for the new app for nothing. AF had a huge problem with thousands of device forums that kept getting worse and worse each year. The site was getting slower and slower.
Soon you will have a new themed site, that is faster, and an app that compliments it. If we just let AF the way it was and not develop a plan for the future... AF would become obsolete over the next few years. We are not destroying anything, we are reviving it!

Seems like they work great

...we use Firebase to deliver the notifications... I will see what we can do there. I'm surprised Firebase has them in notification queue for so long. I am guessing that device was off for a like a week and then you turned it on and boom... all those notifications?

ROFL, it's been years since I've been able to enable notifications on an app for AF. :p
I forgive you for this comment.

Notifications are virtually Flawless on Tapatalk, sometimes a moment delay but no biggie
From our dev console alerts:

Everything has pros and cons.

Attached is a new build! I did some major code clean-up so you should see the app running a lot faster. More content now since we included four Communities. I also updated the "My Stuff" tab to show watched threads. Lots of bug fixes here and there but as always, let me know how it works out for you!

Rob, you seem to be working hard to make this thing work right, but it ain't working for me. Here's what I said at Google Apps, apparently unreplied:

I kept the previous version around for six years. It at least tried to reflect my experiences with the desktop original. But trying this update, which doesn't even know who I am, is like waking up on Mars. Uninstalled...
I've since tried a few more times to no avail. The problem is that I can't sign in using the same name & password I've been using on Android Forums/Windows for years. I forces me to use my Google email. Then it lets me in but I can't find any of the threads I've been involved with. It might as well be a different forum. That's why I said it's like waking up on Mars.

As I said previously throughout this thread... The AF login will soon come. Please be patient. For now you can just sit tight or why not just create a dummy Gmail? There is no security risk and I really will never understand why some users refuse. Either way, we plan to accommodate you and will soon implement AF login using existing username/password.

That's progress Steve, the Communities tab is approaching an actual forums list. Now we need more of them and the ability to customize that list by adding the ones we want and deleting the ones we don't. Kind of like, you know, the Subscribed forums in the old app or Tapatalk. ;)
I'm not seeing anything in My Stuff now, will that only show threads we start or post in through the app and not the actual forums?
Oh, and the fonts- still tiny-

Thank you. As I said, I can apparently enter the forum, but not as the same person I am here. I'll keep trying your updates.

An why is that it's called Android Forums here and Forums for Android on my phone?

@Phases can help link up accounts... PM him... he has been kind of lazy today.

The My Stuff tab should refresh when you swipe to that tab. Maybe exit the app and try again? Once I chat with Rob and we figure out more of what we want... This will all improve. I mainly wanted to swap that out just to show users something a little more meaningful then new threads from app.

Google won't let us publish any apps with the first word Android. Kind of sucks... but they removed apps of ours before :(

Ouch. Bullets are smushed and color is ignored. Try viewing this post with the latest version of the app.

Since I don't know where you are starting from ...
  • Power off/power on.
  • Go to the app drawer.
  • Drag the Tasker icon to Uninstall.
  • When dialog appears click OK
  • When dialog appears click on Manage Device Administrators.
  • Uncheck Tasker.
  • When dialog appears click Deactivate.
  • Power off/power on.
  • Go to the app drawer.
  • Drag the Tasker icon to Uninstall.
  • When dialog appears click OK(it doesn't give the Administration dialog).
(The reboot is needed to totally remove it.)

... Thom

It's just for app names, for some reason they don't like app names that start with Android, but are fine with Android as the 2nd, 3rd, etc. word.

It's because they think people will mistake "Android X" for an official Google app. Which to be fair, people certainly do with our site's URL.

@stevealbright Thanks for getting the lounge and others into the app. Two things I noticed.
1. Users don't popup when you tag them (maybe a known issue as I haven't done a bunch of posting with the app)
2. The larger issue is I get an error when creating a new thread in the Lounge. See toast message at the bottom.

Ok.. based on the last post I've given the forum app another go.... And its massively better than when I last looked at it...

I still think its way behind tapatalk... BUT its narrowed the gap from being 1000 miles away, to 100 miles?
The text layout in articles actually looks nicer in forums, the fact that the community groups have been added in is great.. and the my stuff tab now seems to have my stuff in it.

There's still the feature gap, quoting, tags, images, formatting....

But I can see now how it 'could' grow into a viable platform.

(On the other hand, maybe I should just bite the bullet, ditch tapatalk and forums and do everything by chrome on my phone)

If this little rant sounds whiney/complaining/ungrateful/negative its not meant to be... I can see (and appreciate) the massive steps forward the app has made, and its really not fair to judge things during all the building work and upheaval. Just thought I'd throw in my little perspective as of right now.

Like any building project.. I'm sure it will look better when the scaffolding comes down, and the new wallpaper goes up.

Keep up the good work, we're all rooting for you. :D
