Hey all! Popping in to see how we're doing, been letting Steve handle this thread while he works on the app in more obvious real time.. user feedback driven.. while the theme is being worked on elsewhere etc.

Any outstanding questions or anything I can try to help with? Appreciate everyone's support - this is a big and risky adventure so success is more likely with all the positive, patient, help we can get :)

Could you have a look at this? I think we're missing out on traffic for major devices which haven't been released yet as there isn't a channel/forum for it.

Interesting bug... er, "undocumented feature":

I had Forums previously installed on my Note 4, but I've moved to the Note 5 now. Forums still has Note 4 as my device! Am I supposed to do something to select my device? There isn't an option in the app settings, so I imagine it's supposed to be automatic.

I wonder if Google restored your data from another device? If so I will have to add a check for this. Clearing data should fix the issue if I am right.

Is there still a website theme overhaul coming? Or did that happen already? Its almost been a month since this topic was created...

The forums seem so quiet for numerous popular devices. I check the generic 'Devices' location sometimes, and occasionally look at the generic 'Questions' board. Are there any other places on the application that conversations are taking place or are not accessible via the website? I believe that I have yet to see any way to access any application channels via the website? (Or the generic catch all location)

Have there been any great stories yet that can be attributed to the new application channels method?
  • I was realizing the semi-brilliance of this method the other day. What if an old and established good application 'goes rogue' and begins a partnership with Cheetah Mobile, or starts providing intrusive advertisements, or takes over your Chrome browser, or gets a bad update from the Play Store, or starts to install random shortcuts for other applications on your home screen one day?
With the application channel you might be able to see that 20 other users have found the same issue with the same application in the last 4 days and the red flag can be thrown to everyone browsing that application channel to uninstall said application.
If you can capture these stories or quantify that helpful experience, you have a very compelling reason why the new forum application is GREAT for its users.
An application channel can almost be like a real-time interactive Play Store rating system, but better.
I personally have my disagreements with the forced auto-scan methodologies, but know when I see the possibility for a good thing developing. Even despite my disagreements, I'd prefer to see long term success.

Yes, there is a new theme coming. It is so very close but it's just one of those things. Lots and lots of ducks to get in a row. It is being worked on constantly. I can't wait!

Accessing other channels - yes both in the app and on the web, this is being worked on. You will be able to add channels to the application that you would like (current af forums, for example, and other device channels). I am unsure if you will be able to add other APPLICATION forums. I'm sure one day, but I don't see much chatter on that for right now.

Agreed on the stories bit. We also hope to interest developers and have them frequent their channels for official support, which would be awesome.

How do I move a thread from Android Apps & Games to Android Devices/Motorola Droid Bionic?

Android Devices is a little misleading. Wouldn't it be better if it was called Android Phones & Tablets?

.. also ... when searching for an answer to a visitor's question I am finding over-and-over that the link in an older post is dead. I can't say that they are all dead. I can say that every one I have tried so far is dead. My GUESS is that they are referencing a post using the old phone and tablet file structure. If this is not going to be corrected I suggest that EVERY one of them be changed to "<DELETED>".

So I downloaded the app. First thing it wanted was for me to login with my Gmail account. WTF!! I can't login with my android forums account that has already my history and favorites???? I uninstalled app right away and got Tapatalk. Great can't browse to my new phones forum and favorite it. Maybe it's a glitch with Tapatalk. I login on my desktop and find out I can't do it there either!!! Not happy. :(

I can merge accounts for ya but yes atm we are using Gmail logins since everyone with an android phone should have one.

Favoriting is on its way.

Please understand as this thread implies this whole process is quite a task is a work in progress. Bear with us!

:)

Be happy!

It looks like the latest update allowed me to MERGE my Google account with my existing Android Forums account. Nothing lost!

Thanks for the reply. I feel ya on the timeline / delay. Just making sure it is still on the roadmap since mostly all of the talk thus far has been surrounding the new application.
Aligning your waterfowls in a linear formation -- it is tricky stuff

Will the new website theme be doing any type of auto-detecting for page formatting, device / carrier detection, or other?
I've droned on about this before, I apologize, but I despise and detest websites that try to force my mobile device onto a mobile only website with no back way out of it. Or when there is a hobbled up 2nd theme with fewer features, worse design, and a lesser experience than when browsing on a desktop, it really 100% ruins my enjoyment.
I'd prefer to know now ahead of time rather than taking that journey and finding out later with great disappointment.

Drawing in developers to follow their own applications (dare I say ROMs???) channel for official support would be amazing!
