Root Important post by P3droid (For GB users especially)

I quickly pulled the battery from my phone and hid it in the engine compartment next to the battery.This will guarantee being detection proof according to my sources.

In the restaurant I over heard there strategy of attack. The college campus's are the there first targets. They would then proceed to the rural northern counties next week.

There main tool is a electronic EFM hyper-modulation overload causing a finely tuned blast toward any Rooted device.
Then as you reboot the screen pops up and says "Return to VZW company store NOW !!"

Has any one else seen the RAT team vehicles in their areas yet ???

Forward this info at once to protect your self or keep your phone in your engine compartment for the next two weeks at least ...

I'm certain the DRRR (De-activate Root Rat Ray) also has an ME ray (Memory Eraser). They are in fact using the new DRRR-ME.38475-p3 Ray.
So don't expect anyone to report seeing them or even remembering that they once had a thing called Root. :(:cool:

I have not seen the RAT team but I am not too worried I think my X is safe. However since making it safe I have been having problems. I have my X wrapped in foil, however I can not see my screen any longer and I don't think it picks up my touch anymore on the screen.

Good news, I don't think Verizon can find out my phone is rooted now.
Bad news, my awesome phone is pretty much worthless now :eek:

Nobody is forcing anyone to listen, he doesn't owe anyone his source (and I would never give up a good source), and if his source has requested he stick to vague comments, then so be it.

We aren't entitled to insider information. I think vague comments are better than no comments, and P3 doesn't owe me squat. Anyone who roots or tethers does so at their own risk, it's not up to him to save us.

i responded to this....but my post was deleted and as you can see by the pm i received in my sig....well i guess ill just leave it at that....or maybe ill go ahead and get my self perma banned....cant tell you i really care....

I got an infraction too, but it was a while ago and it was only worth 1 point, not 3......lol......I was told it was for spamming :p

its rather unfortunate the drama some folks twitter posts can deliver, especially with no backing other then damage control imo , let me charge you for something then cause a ruckus and tell you not to use it, wrong imo , many will disagree with my post but aw well
 
I actually read your post before it was deleted... not sure why there was hostility there. I may disagree but that doesn't mean I'm attacking you.

although i respect the mods here and love this forum and am by no means discounting your opinion binary ( i respect it and learn from it) im sure it had to do with folks not being able to handle the truth since we live in such a sugar coat society

But they can tell who is tethering which is true but they are not actively tracking people... they were just trying to determine the source of the problem. @P3Droid I am sorry then. It stemmed purely from my reaction to the mass hysteria which has run rampant in response to your recent news. I know that I should not blame the messenger, but I feel like it could have been handed slightly differently. I apologize if you feel that I miss represented you, or that if I was being out of line. Let's give it 24 hours to blow over and maybe you can reconsider. I will completely change up, happily renege all of my previous statements, and formally apologize.

@P3Droid The percentage of users that are using tethering for free is only 1-2%, about 1-2 million
VZW has the ability to see who these users are by sending a simple packet to the phone
The amount of data they are using is enough to cause stress on the network for other users
The money being lost is not from the data they are using but the money used to build the network so it can sustain the usage
There are NO plans to cancel anyone's account for using tethering illegally
VZW is planning on sending notices to those that are using the tethering to begin with
The next step will be charging the users for 3G hotspot
They are looking into raising the prices of the unlimited plan
They have no interest in whether or not users are rooted
They have tested a kill switch for the tethering but it has not been perfected. This will only shut off the tethering ability, and leave the phone usable as usual

seems more down to earth and realistic to me....though he hasnt given any sources he is at least skipping the b.s.

although i dont know his total scope of influence or knowledge i do know Wug Fresh is no dummy and is the one who came up with the universal theme porter, doesnt mean he knows all but does say he should know some

yep....thats my guess. guy got his nuts in the wringer and now he's playing drama queen or something....
really i dont care what his issue is; but for all the playing up and carrying on trouble he has caused and for being somebody with such an effect in the android world....he sure handled himself like crap.
he's blown things up, thrown things out of proportion, been all freak people out but vague and unwilling to specify and get to the point....

all this from the guy everyone is supposed to listen to? whatever....he's covering himself or has some other self motivation or well....who cares what his issue is....
 
I understand the frustration here but we don't need to resort to personal attacks. P3droid is human too and he freaks out when someone gives him so info. Is it right for him to freak out and cause a stir? No but it's perfectly human. I was scared too at first (see my OP) and I've tethered all of 5 times. Imagine how much scarier it is when you are the source of the NVRAM hack?

It's great to have a discussion on the issues at hand, but nobody benefits from attacks and anger. I'm not speaking to anyone in particular but let's cool it down folks.

I just don't get all of this.

-First, how do they actually tell if you are tethering? Is it by downloads or uploads? Heck everytime I download a rom is is what 175mb?
-Is is a crime to be rooted? Never said anything in the agreement.
-If I am rooted and downloading a lot it does not mean I am tethereing (which I don't) but they cannot assume I am. It is up to VZ to prove I am tethering and I just don't see how they can. Maybe I missed it in the 10 previous pages or in P3s post.
-They will send out an update of gingerbread or whatever and if you download it, it will probably kill you ability to tether ala what is going on with the gb releases. This, until someone finds a walk around.

They're not monitoring downloads and uploads. P3 has indicated that the ability to detect tethering is already built into the kernel. Including the 2.2 kernel. It's not from monitoring downloads/uploads.

Keep in mind that I do not tether but the TBH app being pulled could be for several different reasons. If they are supposedly so concerned about stopping people from tethering they would pull the apps and avoid the problem completely. Why would Verizon spend all of the money, time, resources, etc. to "crack down" on something when they could just pull the apps and be done with it?
