Interesting Articles.. post some interesting articles that other might enjoy.

Many of us have seen sci-fi films with food replicators, walk up and choose a meal and whoosh out it pops.
My first thought upon reading that was of the old 'automat' places my mom told me about. I've seen them in old movies. You'd walk up to this wall of little glass doors, see the food behind each one, open a door and take your food.

Anyway, very interesting article, and concept. I'm all for anything that reduces our impact on the environment and, especially, doesn't hurt or kill animals. It should be fun watching where this goes.

On a recent episode of Shark Tank, the entrepreneurs started out by having the 'sharks' try their fried chicken. Being vegan, I started tuning out what was being said, but did hear comments like 'the best fried chicken I've ever had!' and 'the skin is unbelievable!' Then it happened. I tuned back in. It's vegan.

Turns out the sharks weren't alone--this vegan 'chicken' won first place at the National Fried Chicken Festival in New Orleans.

They've been sold out--of ALL their products, which are all vegan--since their appearance on the show. I'm placing my order tonight--with a delivery date of May 22, 2020. :o

Definitely an interesting article regarding the nature of pets and whether we should have them.

Should We Stop Keeping Pets?

One little blurb from the article:
[Crucially, our animals can’t tell us whether they are happy being pets. “There is an illusion now that pets have more voice than in the past … but it is maybe more that we are putting words into their mouth,” Pierce says, pointing to the abundance of pets on social media plastered with witty projections written by their “parents”. “Maybe we are humanising them in a way that actually makes them invisible.”]
First, I haven't read the article yet, so I'm not commenting on its point(s). However, as a multi-decade animal rights activist (now just advocate, since I can't be active!), I've asked myself this, and many other pet-related questions many times.

One thing I'm often asked, as a vegan, is "aren't you a hypocrite for feeding your pets animal products?" Why, no, thank you, I don't believe I am! I *rescued* every one of my pets. They would've died one way or another if not for being brought into my family. *I* choose to be vegan because--as a HUMAN, I do not NEED meat or other animal products, to live a perfectly healthy, happy, delicious food life. They, on the other hand, specifically cats, cannot be vegan, as they require taurine, which is only found in animals. My Great Danes were vegetarian; however, that actually stemmed from Little Freddie's allergy problems.

We'd been battling nasty allergies for awhile, and my vet finally narrowed it down to food. So she put him on a prescription diet; the dry food consisted of only two ingredients, fish and potatoes, neither of which is much risk for allergies. Well, whatever one of my 'kids' had, the other wanted, so when Freddie switched to prescription food....VERY EXPENSIVE prescription food...his sister, Queenie, would no longer eat her food, so for a solid year I fed them both the prescription food exclusively. Do you know how much it costs to feed two 180-ish pound Great Danes prescription food? A LOT!!! So, after a year (in which Freddie's skin completely cleared up) and with my vet's blessing, I transitioned them to Nature's Recipe Vegetarian Allergy Formula; they thrived on that for their remaining years.

As for pets being happy as pets, all I can say is come visit my house! You're going to see four very content, playful, happy, well-fed, healthy cats and one similar dog (technically not my dog, but she's treated as if she is). Every one of them would've died if not for being rescued. Sure, I could open the door and let them run free--to be confronted by coyotes, 4,000 pound vehicles, cruel people, diseases that can't be vaccinated against, thieves who sell pets to vivisectionists, etc. If you ask THEM, I'm 100% sure they'd say they want to stay with me!

@MoodyBlues that does look good and not all like it's Vegan.
Yeah, I'm really anxious for my order to come! Next spring. :o

The fact that it won the national fried chicken competition amazes me, and makes me really happy. As more and more of these incredible vegan versions of cruelly-produced, animal-based products come along, more omnivores are seeing that it's easy to be compassionate without sacrificing taste and/or favorite foods.

From the article: "HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — A tiny deer-like species not seen by scientists for nearly 30 years has been photographed in a forest in southern Vietnam, a conservation group said Tuesday."

The full AP article is linked below and the second link is to the photo gallery in that article.

This image is from a different site. They are about the size of a rabbit and are the world's smallest known hoofed mammal.

Rare deer-like species photographed for first time in wild
Wow! Thanks for sharing. I continue to be amazed when an animal thought to be extinct makes an appearance.

My brain is struggling to see this one, the chevrotain, as rabbit-sized; my brain wants to make it bigger! At any rate, it's beautiful and I hope humans don't drive it to actual extinction.

Generally I detest AOL but their news page had the most pictures related to this article I could find, which made it worth sharing. ;)

That is amazing, I can see cleary of each animal mentioned, but with the leaves like that in the above photograph, my brain still thinks it is a baby deer.

That’s curious; you and Milo want to see it larger (than a bunny), along the lines of a small deer, and when I see it amongst the leaves I for some reason see it as smaller than a bunny. ;)

Definitely a cool little creature.

I secretly hope the Tasmanian Tiger is not really extinct as well.
I do see it as a bunny but the photograph, with the autum leaves make my brain think its a deer :D

People Need To Be Taken Seriously When They Grieve The Death Of A Pet

From the article: "But most importantly, it’s time to recognize, as a whole society, that grieving pet owners need support and consideration. While it is up to us to identify or address our emotional pain after a pet passes away, it’s also important for other to give us the validation that our pain requires. Psychologically, that is the quickest way to heal. So if you know someone who has lost a pet be gentle with them and acknowledge that they’re legitimately in pain."
Excellent article, which I totally identified with. Thanks for sharing.

Woman kept husband's body in freezer for some ten years after he died--but it's not what you think. :o

He apparently had a terminal illness, and conspired with his wife to keep his death secret so she would continue receiving his benefits. A signed and notarized letter from him, found after the wife died, stated that she did not kill him.

Just when you think you've heard it all...

Proud of my home state [as usual :D]: California Vastly Expanding Digital Privacy Rights

And, yes, the article specifically mentions the dreaded facebook. One can only imagine how they'll deal with this.

I think I'll add this link to my I-hate-facebook thread... *evil grin*
No kidding, I am going there less and less throughout the day.Soon I will be free from social media, I have not checked my youtube in a thousand weeks or so, and soon I will just dissapear into different areas throughout the moments.

ok so a couple of articles here:
so i just found out that awkwafina is producing and starring in a movie about an era of punk rock history where chinese restaurants were huge venues for most punk rock bands.
https://www.thewrap.com/awkwafina-t...-california-punk-rock-scene-at-topic-studios/

the movie is based on this article:
https://www.topic.com/how-chinese-food-fueled-the-rise-of-california-punk

i found this very fascinating. i am a huge old school punk music fan. growing up the band X has a huge influence on me.

i highly recommend reading the topic article.

Chinese doctor who tried to warn public about novel coronavirus--and was reprimanded for doing so--has died from the disease.

The doctor "was called to a local police station and reprimanded for 'spreading rumors online' and 'severely disrupting social order'" for posting his alert.

@mikedt, I'd really like to hear your take on the coronavirus situation in China. We (Americans) are highly skeptical of the [proportionately] low number of cases and, especially, deaths being reported by Chinese authorities. For example, supposedly only 563 people have died there from it--out of 25+ million quarantined. Right...

ETA: Well, the same state media organizations that reported his death are now saying he's critically ill. Take it with a grain of salt. *shrug*

ETA2: ...and back again...

Now this is not so much an article, more a fascinating video:

This guy is making a mini Radial Engine that fully functions. Once I started this video I could not stop watching, it has a touch of #asmr in the sped up sections. The detail and precision is amazing, especially once he starts assembling the pistons - that is pure magic. :p
