[International / GSM] Just got a Galaxy Nexus Unlocked :D

I've yet to activate it and I was wondering if I can root it and install a custom ROM and still activate it?

I know some phones require you to be completely stock when activating, but I just want to make sure.

There's no harm in unlocking & rooting first, and you probably would still be fine even if you do rom it first.
Just don't wait too long to unlock if you choose to wait because that completely wipes the device clean.

Can you tell me what the difference is between the GSM version and the LTE version?

Mine is the I9250.

The GSM version is the international version that is compatible with 5 different gsm frequencies, making it usable on just about every gsm carrier. The LTE version is actually a CDMA/LTE hybrid that is specifically manufactured to work on Verizon or Sprint in the US, but not interchangeably (as far as LTE goes).

Use the toolkit in my sig. By far the easiest way to unlock,root,recovery,etc.... on your phone.

Then open up the Rom comparison chart also in my sig and pick out a ROM. I highly suggest AOKP as it has the most options for modding your phone over all the others.

Aokp isn't the best for mods on the Gnex anymore. That honor belongs to jbsourcery. It's startling how many there are.

I've tried their roms and I still say AOKP is by far better in terms of smoothness and customization. But to each his own. That's the greatness of Android

none are the best for the GNexus, each have what they have. Which ROM is best depends on the user and what they want. For me its CM all they way, I dont need nor want all the extra fluff and extra features I wont ever use I seen in aokp and others.

So its which rom is best for ME, not the device.

I use Eclipse because I like the inverted theme that the whole rom has and is relatively stock with a few customizations that I like.

Yeak, my toolkit app doesn't root a device--it's just a collection of functions I thought would be useful to folks that were already rooted.
