[International / GSM] Overclocking Settings?

I'm thinking of overclocking my device, Galaxy Nexus on 4.1, are there any easy to use apps that do this? The ones that you can switch configurations to save battery life, increase performance, etc. And what frequency should I put for min and max? Any tutorials out there?

Some roms have the ability built in. Othewise, I use Setcpu. I think it's somewhat widely accepted that min is 350 mhz. I'm not sure how high anybody has gone while still remaining stable but I haven't seen many roms go over 1.4 Ghz. Also, you need to be running a kernel that allows overclocking so we are talking a custom kernel from a developer.

Um, I have Franco kernel updater app, any tutorial on how to flash it and use the settings? It looks kinda dangerous....

And which build should I use? I'm on 4.1.1 jelly bean stock

Sorry, my knowledge just ran out as I don't use Franco or the updater. I would check his thread on xda as Franco seems to primarily stick to that site.

In the app you go to the kernel download tab where you can see the latest 'nightly' available for download. If you want this then tap the download and choose whether to auto-flash or to download the .zip file. The latter you need to flash in a custom recovery. If you are familiar with custom recoveries then I'd suggest you take this route and make sure you clear Dalvik cache before flashing the .zip. That's really it. When you reboot you can then set the min and max values of your CPu through the app and enable for it to be set upon boot. All things said your device must be rooted for all this. I'm running mine very stable at min 350MHz and max 1305MHz. ;)

Is the nightly safe? And what is dalvik cache? Does this wipe my device?

Clearing Dalvik cache won't wipe any data from your phone, so you are safe. It is like the Windows virtual memory cache and helps your device apps being executed from cache. Just helps make everything ran efficiently. You'll find the dalvik cache wipe under wipe or advanced in the custom recovery.

I can only flash kernels that suit my device and firmware right? I have Jelly Bean so this is right for me?

And which ones should I use? There are 384 and 512.

And how should I backup my kernel?

Any good ones you recommend /w good battery life and performance?

Don't worry about backing up your kernel. No need. Also no need to wipe anything beforehand.

Choose the 384 version (clock speed of GPU) for stability. If you like the kernel then try the 512 version - come phones won't run it - not all GNex's are created equal!

For Franco JB kernels just pick the latest. There is no milestone version yet.

Should I use a custom recovery or the in all auto flash?

And I tweak the settings in the app right? For the frequencies

Hmm, I'm at min 384 with Franco Kernel for JB, I can't go lower than that, how do I tweak it to 350 using the franco kernel app?

And what is Governor Control, and what's the best setting for Scaling governor?

And I set my Max cpu to 1305 but after a reboot it reverts back to 1228 in the franco app.

What if I want to make my own custom power profile in the app? To increase the max cpu mhz to 1305? What governor setting should make it?

Hi
franco kernel updater on jb comes with a scary number.. do not go over 1600 if you do not know the correct parameters.. and read about fast usb charging...before doing something that can damage your loved nexus. To begin you could just test some of the auto-mods and see which fits you better.

System Tuner is a good cpu app, has about anything you can do to the kernel in it (kernel supporting it that is).

Another fav of mine is Android Overclock, it has the best looking widget I seen for a cpu app out.
