Root Is there a root????

I am looking to root my EVO 4G, but have been using it stock since the day I got it.
Went through the tons of roms etc for my POS Moment, so I want to play with this one.
I am looking for a Rom/root/whatever that is pretty much stock, but just removing the annoying bloatware like NFL, Nascar, Non Google navigation, etc...
I just want to be able to run all my apps from my SD card, and remove the garbage, but I do not want to loose the stuff I like.
I'm sorry if I haven't taken the time to look through dozens of threads. I'm just looking for something as stable as stock, no bloatware, and maybe a bit more battery if possible.
Thanks in advance if anyone can point me in the right direction.

PS- I'm not looking for a super rom, just stable and clean

Check out mikg 2.59

+1!

MikG is stock GB, with some "extras". :) you'll love it.

Read the rooting for dummies gingerbread edition at the top of the forum. It will guide you through rooting with revolutionary. And as always ask if you have any questions.

Ps: My manners, Welcome to the forums!!!!

Welcome!
Has Granite said look through the rooting for dummies thread and then check your Hboot to see if you need to use Revoltionary or unrevoked. If you have accepted the OTA it will probaly be revoltionary. If you have any questions just ask.

I would also suggest mikG2.59. It is fast, stable, trimmed down, and has the hacked wifi hotspot!

If you want more battery life you'll need to flash a custom kernel.

Or, if you want more of a pure Android experience without HTC Sense, I would go with Deck's 1.3d build. I am running it and love it. I think I'm in the minority, but I pretty much only run AOSP (android open source project) roms on my Evo. Sense is great and all, but the customization of AOSP roms is unmatched.

Download gingerbread evo deck zip

It says it's a beta, but many report it to be more stable than the stable build. I'm running it and it's flawless.

+1 on preferring AOSP over Sense.

Read the Guide First and Formost. If you have questions we will be here to answer them. You can click the Link in my sig to take you straight there.

Now For some real Honesty. Most of us started with the same desire you have. Just get rid of the crap we dont want and keep things we do. Now we are Flashaholics. ;)

Hardware failures can happen at any time. I started getting them on my old Evo running froyo sense roms. It would be so cheap to buy a used Evo now anyway. And there are plenty of aosp fanboys such add myself that never have any issues.

Whichever Rom you choose from the Rom/Kernel download thread I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If you have any questions in regards to them there is alot of assistance here, as I'm sure you've noticed.

Mizzou, I'm also running the Deck build. I like it alot. It's the stable one. I mostly bounce between that and a Sense 3.0 3d rom.
So you're not alone.:D

Thank you guys for the great responses.
Been away working, so I havent checked the thread.
The big things to me will be, how to install my apps on my SD as opposed to the phone and to make sure my Google Maps and Navagation still perform as well as they do.
I literally threw my Tom tom out the window while driving a few weeks ago since the Navagation on the Evo blew it away.....LOL
Any Kernals you suggest???
I am not into getting all the boot loops, and glitches.
Like I said...as close to stock as possible with a bit more battery life.
I just cant afford to have my phone go nuts like my Moment did with most of the Roms and Kernals I installed....
Once again, thanks in advance...

ok so read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. read everything in the after root section. there is a section for partitioning your card. this will put the apps on your card fully.

also mikg2.59 is pretty much stock, but it has added sene 2.1 and sense 3.0 to it. i guarantee that you will like it. everything works including gps.

as far as kernels go, that really depends on your phone. every phone is different and will react differently to kernels. i would start out with the aggressive freedom kernel and work your way down the list. give the kernel a few days to settle in before making a decision.

also do not forget to make a nandroid backup before flashing anything including a kernel.
