ive left desire..here is why

mamps52

Newbie
recently my htc desire got stolen. with no phone insurance i had no choice but to buy a new handset. i bought an iphone 4., here are the only 2 reasons why i didnt go bak to htc.....

1. battery life. i have tried every trick under the sun but im sorry to say the battery life is shocking. and i am 100:% certain it was not a hardware/software fault as i had my unit tested and battery replaced. the phone would just eat up the battery under any sort of activity on the phone that required internet connections or used up the cpu i.e games/apps. i am not a heavy user but it bugged me that i had to charge my phone every single day under moderate use. to get the life you would get under an iphone 4 you would have to switch of data and dim the screen right down, and not use it as much. unacceptable. htc should take a leaf out of the iphone 4 book on how to manage power.

2. screen. great quality screen but it doesnt compare with the iphone 4. nothing can beat it. even the best out there such as samsung galaxy might technically be just as good or better, but in real life the screen quality on iphone 4 is amazing.

i am no iphone geek for sure. i love android and im sure i will be buying the new motorola xoom tablet soon, but the poor battery life and design of the htc desire have tipped my into buying a

And you came here to post this why?

had the iphone 3g..what i realised was that without apps the iphone isnt really anything special.... but i will say it does look great.

the desire is soo much better even compared to the iphone 4 IMO... you can personalise it soo much, i love this. however like all phones there will be a day when i get bored, but i feel now ill be staying with android devices for a while to come.

read my post properly before you do your investigative work.

"had the iphone 3g..what i realised was that without apps the iphone isnt really anything special.... but i will say it does look great."---------yeah it looked great.apple oroducts do, just like the iphone 4. one reason why i went back...design.

"The desire is soo much better even compared to the iphone 4 IMO... you can personalise it soo much, i love this. however like all phones there will be a day when i get bored"--------so i did get bored as stated.

"but i feel now ill be staying with android devices for a while to come"------- i will go bak for sure. i am going to buy the motorola xoom, and im sure htc will fix their battery problems with the desire range

When that super long life battery needs replacing I wish you good luck. You only need a couple of specialist screwdrivers and an online guide to help you do it. So much easier than removing the back cover by hand.

Of course doing it yourself will void the warranty, better use the 'famously good value apple battery replacement service' instead.

One of many reasons I'll never follow you.

Well i used to have the 3G and now on a Desire and i would NEVER go back now! So much more user friendly and not locked down that i had to jailbreak it to get it how i want my phone, not how Apple want me to have it.

Stupid Apple...

to be fair people should be harsh to him just because hes made his choice to move on
he maid some valid/invalid points

battery is not better on iphone this is factual btw, you are either not using it the same or you are not having syncing on as often

as for the screen, yes the iphone screen is superior and there is no denying it. iphone 4 is a nice device and i could have one but not as my primary phone.

iPhone battery lasts longer because there's not as much to do compared to the Desire. People with Android phones have much more things to do, and doing them is more fun, so on average an Android phone is used for longer which reduces battery life faster.

Probably not true, but it makes sense to me.

I don't want to bag on the iphone because I think it's a neat device. Not having access to the battery is a deal breaker for me. I'm constantly seeing iphones laying around plugged in at work. This habit is unacceptable to me. I have two extra batteries that I rotate to my Desire when I need to.

I can't really speak of iPhone 4 since I've used it for only 2-3 min. But as far as I can remember iPhone 4 came out after Desire and it costs more than Desire. You would think for the extra money you should be getting more, right?
I myself have no complaints from the battery life. I lasts up to 2 days (no calls, no Internet, no music) and at least a day with moderate usage of the aformentioned.
As to your post- it's kind of pointless. We all know there are issues but in your case they don't really matter anymore.

well I'm convinced.

Binned my Desire before even reading the thread based on the subject line alone. If it's not good enough for internet superstar mamps52 then I don't want it either.

Anyway mine easily hits 30-36 hours with moderate use (couple dozen SMS, some browsing, maybe 20 minutes of calls) but the funny thing is I tend to fall asleep after only 16-18 hours so I just charge it then. I understand though that with you cyborg types 30 hours just isn't enough.

Don't you think the iphone4 screen looks a little washed out. I have the oled desire and when I compared the two in shop, I preferred the desire... I was shocked that I preferred my phone as I thought the iphone screen would of been much better.

Seems like resolution is not the be all that I thought. Colour and contrast are just as important to me, I surprised myself, not done that in a while :-)

myself, I could not live with the iphone as it does not have automatic text reflow or a big enough screen. Have not got a problem with op changing to one though, hope you remain happy with your iphone :-) not for me though...

hi all
some harsh comments guys. not really called for I don't think.

desire is a very good phone imo probably the best i've had.
yes battery could be better true. needs more ram I think.
and as always phone companies leave out or block
good features. screen capture :-(

on balance for me more interesting than iPhone 4

cheers
Dan

I think some people need to grow up and stop jumping on the badwagon of " I hate apple so I will get a droid" some people prefer apple some pefer android and some prefer other phones, come on people get over it.

Can't the mods just delete pointless threads like this? How many times have we seen someone sign up to the forum just to rant against the Desire?

My battery lasts just fine, I've no problems. I also have a colleague with an iPhone who said that the battery on it was, quote, "crap", so he keeps a charger with him to top it up as he needs to. So do I, because ALL smartphones are battery sappers and you're an idiot if you think you're going to continually use your phone all day and not affect the battery!

Anyway, please mods, shoot these topics down as soon as they rear their ugly heads.

Yes. It. Is.

Much, much better.

Love Android. Love your Desire.

but please, stop spouting bulls#it.

no, you are talking that and you are also being insulting by insinuating otherwise

my battery lasts just as long if not longer than an iphone4
ive said over and over again, i work for a company where i can have pretty much whatever phone i want whenever i want to do whatever i want with.

theres no bias in it, ive even posted screenies of me with pre release devices and iphones etc.

im not bias, i just dont lie or follow fanboism
i like this device, however im sure there are and will be better phones
some ways the iphone is better and some ways the desire is better
what is certain is that batteries on both iphone and desire last about the same with similar use and calling me a bullshitter is childish

oh and 36hrs is moderate usage, i get this consistently and i use it as my music player for 45 mins to work and 45mins back
ii dont make many calls though
