Help Jelly Bean discussion/issues thread (released Dec. 13)

I received this response after I said I wasn't happy with their customer service.

Dear James Owen,

My name is Steve and I’m from HTC Customer Care. I am sending this email to you in regards to a recent customer satisfaction survey that you took and filled in the questions as dissatisfied, and I am looking for any additional feedback you can provide on top of any comments you have submitted. I was wondering why the experience you had with HTC Technical Support was dissatisfying and to see if your issue was resolved. Please give us a call back at 1-866-449-8358 and ask to get in touch with our Escalations department for service ticket number S2012014387001, or you can reply to this email.

Thank you very much and have a great day.

This is how I responded

Hello Starvos,

I was disapointed because I got a generic response (clear out your cache) which did not help. After the update and following the directions in the response nothing has changed. My phone was fine ( I think there should have been a Jelly Bean update before this) before the update, but after, my phone will shut down randomly, the proximity sensor does not work properly. After a phone call the only way I can end the call is to hit the power button, sometimes having to put in my password and then end the call. Also the phone just isn't as smooth running. I really like the phone, it seems to be built great, love the kickstand, love the screen, but almost didn't buy it because it doesn't have a user replaceable battery.

Thanks for your time.

Jim Owen

I probably should have stayed on topic, but I really think the battery should be user replaceable

Everyone has a different experience...

After changing my GPS the other day I went to 20% after 2 days and 11 hours. I am a light user primarily also and just surf and text and minimal phone chats. I wanted to ride it out, but it was the day of the snow storms and wanted to make sure I was charged for the ride home. This is about where I was on ICS, so I would say I am close to normal. Might try a full factory reset when I get in the mood and see how it is.

Another con for me is not having a number notification icon like the stock messaging icon.

Can't have everything, then. For you, unread counts must be more important than blurry screenshots. To each his own. For me, I have both, as I use Nova Launcher and with that I have unread counts. So I'll stick with Chomp as I have always despised the stock messaging and its lack of common, helpful features.

I tried searching the forum for "1x2" but it is too short a phrase to search. So...I just updated to whatever version Sprint just pushed out (I really don't pay too much attention to droid OS versions), and my 1x2 weather widget is gone. Is this just me, or did they do away with it? I loved that thing, and it fit perfectly with my home screen setup.

Sad day. Is it somewhere that I'm just not seeing, or did they take that widget away? If they did, can anyone recommend any apps that I can download/buy to get a 1x2 weather widget? It seems like such a simple thing to ask, but I've been searching online for any such app and none of them (beautiful widgets, fancy widget, etc) don't seem to have that dimension widget.

Also, as an aside, I'm not getting weather animations...is this also gone? Is there a setting buried somewhere that I can turn on? I have the little 2x1 widget on the home screen right now, and it has a tiny animation on it, but I'm not getting the full-screen animation when I unlock the phone. Dumb.

If all of this is covered somewhere, sorry for duplicating the question- as noted, I tried a search beforehand, but if there's a link to any answers to any of my questions, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for any info/responses!

I tried searching the forum for "1x2" ...

I don't use the weather widgets but I don't remember a 1x2.

Weather animations work fine for me. I use the LIVE WALLPAPER weather and it updates just fine. Anytime I touch my screen even when locked the animations change. For this you'll need to look in settings then personalize to set this up.

To all of you who are complaining to HTC,

Keep it up!!!

Seriously, it's working. I finally got through to an escalation person after going through their hoops and being persistent.

The escalations guy wrote:

"We are aware, as you and other customers are already, that after the update some major flaws have appeared on your phones. We are not ignoring them. Our development team is working on this issue to get it fixed as soon as possible. Our main interest is not to look to the other side and ignore the issue, but to resolve it as soon as possible. We are committed to give you the best products and the best support. As you may understand there are some steps we must follow in order to be able to escalate, if necessary, the "unresolved" issues.

I will need some information, contact information and phone information, to be sent to our developers, and also to a higher tier. I do apologize for the inconvenience you had expecting a first resolution. X was just following procedures.

To get the information form your phone just got to Settings > About, and fill out the form I am attaching so we can escalate this issue promptly."

I sent them my information and they sent me a friendly reply telling me that they are working on it!!!

So, keep complaining and you will get to escalation.

Thank you!!!

So after being sent a troubleshooting ticket of what might be wrong with my stock messages app and proximity sensor, I get sent this other message...

Jeremy

What now do I do? I purchased my phone from Best Buy at the date of the release so I'm well over the return date. This is NOT a hardware issue

...

What's going on? I've already gotten it multiple times.

Do what I did. Explain to them that your phone was fine before the update and that the proximity sensor and the stock message app were broken only after the update so it makes no sense that the phone could be the problem. Request that their developers fix their code so that the proximity sensor and the stock message app function properly again

I'll bet you'll get escalations like I did. Follow their instructions for providing them with the information they need.

Please don't give up. It's working. See my post before this one.

Thank You!
Simcha

Strength is in numbers. glad to see they are at least acknowledging there are issues. The more folks to submit tickets and give specific issues (proximity, battery usage, etc) instead of just saying "the update sucks" will help HTC get a better handle on what to fix so that a more complete MR is sent out when it becomes available.

To all of you who are complaining to HTC,

Keep it up!!!

I was asked to do a factory reset last week and finally did it last night. Still have the proximity sensor issue like everyone else and all other issues appear to be still there as well. I replied to their message saying if I do a factory reset and it does not fix this issues I was going to be even more upset, so I am more upset now. :)

Anyway, a new issue popped up after doing the factory reset. Any time an app pops the keyboard up I get keyboards that look like this (internet, messages, facebook, firefox, email). The white box at the bottom is exactly like that, I can't see half the keyboard and have to hope I hit the right keys. I noticed a similar issue when opening the custom dictionary screen. No additional keyboard apps have been installed.

I had the same exact issue but Wiping the Cache from Recovery fixed it and all other issues except for MMS over compressing Screenshots.

I just received a phone call from HTC Escalation Department to talk to me about my issue with over compressing Screenshots when attaching to MMS and they are aware of the issue and working to fix it. No time frame was given but I appreciate the phone call and acknowledgment.

Just contacted HTC support about my issues after the update. The deal breaker for me is the loss of google maps navigation, but the other things are annoying as well. I mentioned that i have cleared cache and reset to factory, but i am assuming they will want me to again. We shall see.

Hopefully all this helps them get the issues fixed for those who are having them

The loss of Google Maps Navigation?

HTC sent me a reply to all my posts about the problems, even after factory resetting, that broke after the update to JB. They gave me a phone number to call to get "information about policy and procedures for our repair and warranty policy". I should also contaact my carrier to see about a phone swap or replacement.

Too bad I already rooted and am running MeanBean v1.6.

I had the same thing with the keyboard after the update. Power cycled several times and it finally went away. Did a factory reset and it hasn't fixed my issues either. Proximity sensor is very hit/miss. Dictionary is whacky Battery life is not good at all.
