Help Jellybean installation

Quick question i am on the latest software is there Amy way to install the jellybean and keep my current data and pictures etc so i don't gave top redo my user data thanks.

Copy your pics to an sdcard and make sure your contacts are synced to a Google account. Then either back your apps with Titanium backup if rooted or re-download them (Google remembers any apps that you bought). I wouldn't recommend doing a no data install if going to JB from ICS

What do you mean by no data install is that where you install it clean

No, if you are on ICS wanting to move to JB it is best to do the full restore install. There have been many changes between the two, not just visual but inner workings as well. The full restore and the no data install are 2 different install option for the One click install for the stock rooted/unrooted installs of JB. If going to install a custom ROM then follow the instruction for that ROM.

So its best to start from scratch then and restore my data my self

yes when moving to JB from ICS

it is not too bad when you have an sdcard and sync your contacts

Thank you I must report that installing the jelly bean update my speeds and signal have dramatically increased and the phone has much better performance overall this was much needed thanks again everyone

If you don't mind me asking, what jb rom are you on?? Ddid your speeds and signal increase when you installed the rom, or is there a specific update, if so, where do I get the update?? Thanks

All the roms you need to see are in the one stop shop in the stickies of the all things root section. And since there are no official jb updates and you all are talking about roms this thread really belongs in the all things root section.

Please if your contemplating modifying your phones familiarize your self with the all things root section. Read the guides. Look through the one stop shop. Read the install instructions on the roms because they give u exact directions. Then if u have root related questions create a thread in the all things root section. Remember we were all noobs at one time. And the best advice i can give you fron experience is YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST TEACHER! ! If your never take the time to understand what your doing. And whats needed for specific rom types and why then you probably shouldn't be rooting or flashing anything.

Not directed at anyone in particular. Just words from the wise. When your learn what your doing then you can help contribute your knowledge to other noobs that need help;)

nevermind, A little reading all you need to do

Thats what I like to hear:thumbup:

A little reading really is all anyone needs to do to find the answers. Any question that someone could possibly ask had most likey been asked a thousand times and answered. U only have to look and read:D

I am considering installing the pac in black aosp rom. I just rooted so I have the agat kernal and recovery. Do I need a different recovery/kernal? On xda, it says to boot into a safe recovery, preferably EL26. What does EL26 mean?? I am new when it comes to all this stuff. How do I tell what what numbered recovery I have, I looked into about phone but could not find anything that says EL26?? Please help

I am downloading the rom and gapps now. On the same xda site it says to flash inverted store after reboot from flashing rom and gapps. When I click on the link for the inverted store it says link not available, how do I get this download?? I am a little confused, if I flashed the gapps file, then why do I need this inverted store file??

Because its not when he put tge inverted playstore in the gapps zip it wouldnt install right. He told us in one of the first pages of the thread.

Thanks for the reply. So, do I need this inverted file then? If I do, where do I download it because the link in the xda thread doesn't work.

I would like to install this but first I have a few questions listed above so I don't brick my phone. If anyone can offer some help, it would be greatly appreciated. I have read tons of threads but haven't been able to find these answers. Thanks

Ok first let me tell you the recoveries are packed into the kernels. EL26 was a Samsung Rom on ginger bread like FL24 is a stock Rom on ics.

But you are only flashing the kernel because the recovery that lies within is deemed to be safe. You cannot use el26 on your phone all the time because we aren't using gb. But you flash it. Then flash a rom in it then it's replaced with the correct kernel and recovery that was in the Rom you flashed..

Basically if you follow the instructions to install each Rom you'll be good.

Ok, let me make sure I have this right. For pac in black, I have to use kernel el 26,right? When I move the downloads to my sd card, do I put them in any particular folder? Also, I go into the recovery I have now and flash the kernel then, then I flash the rom and gapps? Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure I get this right. This is my first rom flash dealing with different kernels. Thanks

Sorry, but didn't it say on the pac in black xda thread that to use kernel el 26? But you said that's for gb. Isn't pac in black a jb rom?

I went into about phone, I am on a stock rom, its says FL24, I can't use that with the pac in black, can I??

. The kernel will be replaced after you flash the Rom. El26 is ginger bread and if you flashed it and tried to boot the phone it wouldn't go past the Samsung logo. But you can always boot into recovery.

You can put the zips anywhere.you just have to find them in recovery.
You'll will do fine. Just follow the instructions
