Root JoyMod 1.0

I don't think two versions is neccessary. Just stick to the vision and create the next version to be such, just as IOS evolved from 1.0 to the definitive 4.0 it is today. Having two versions is like trying to please different crowds. Remember you are the guardian of the Prevail port of JoyOS and its your job to make it as awesome as possible in whatever way you deem is awesome. if a user doesn't like your latest and greatest version they can always download your older versions if they happen to like ugly white status bars for example. (Keeping a changelog is a good idea to keep the releases linear and allowing others to learn about older versions) But remember its your responsibility at least for the Prevail to evolve your port into the smoothest and best hybrid of style and functionality much like Apple does for IOS for so many more devices. Good luck, I look forward to the next iteration with these changes and whatever else has been.suggested by then (but remember to be like Apple and deem a suggestion to be a great idea before implementing. Always ask is this going to make it more like iOS 5? If so will it be fluid? If not then don't do it just stick with amodern Android approach)

Some more feedback:

make icons customizable (I know its a limitation of Espier Launcher but if you can figure out a way to implement custom icons like add a menu entry to the squiggly pop-up that said Change Icon and then the Gallery activity Picker launched, then youd just be so much cooler than the joyos team)

bundle wifi tether

fix home key lag: when pressing home or back to reach launcher from any app, there is a noticeable one second delay
this needs to be optimized somehow

I've enjoyed this port for a little bit and now have some comments.

- Remove JoyTuner.apk from system/apps, it doesn't work.
- How about removing the entire switchboard from the notification pulldown menu? When you swipe up on a homescreen and scroll all the way to the left, you have redundant but prettier toggles.
- I liked the screenshots showing the Android status bar in the third post. The white bar doesn't seem to blend as nicely, I think because iPods and iPhones tend to be white, whereas a black bar looks nicer on a black Prevail. I know that one way to look at any project like JoyOS is to emulate iOS as closely as possible, but since it can never be completely accomplished (you'll still always have Android menus), I feel the best way to approach it is to create a hybrid that's the best of both worlds, and I think the Android bar is better. So either leave the Android bar there with Android-style notifications, or at least emulate iOS 4's Notification Center ripoff of Android, which uses a dark metallic gray anyway. iOS 5 copies Android further with a black bar, so I think going from black to white is backwards, and doesn't look right on my phone.
- The Music player and its Cover Flow, integration into lockscreen and multitasking bar is awesome.
- The Settings menu is very choppy when scrolling, and I suspect it's because of the design sacrificing fluidity for accurate emulation. Again, think hybrid and leaving a fluid Android-style menu is a better choice
- I'm sure this and previous suggestions is better directed at the JoyOS team, but since you have assumed the role of porter for Prevails, you have a responsibility (and ability hopefully) to improve upon aspects of the ROM. One aspect that is very missing is a Weather app that displays the current weather in its icon as on iOS. Either that or include a widget, but it is very much needed to be a complete iOS experience. (Calendar is done right)

I hope you dedicate some time to this because I think the Prevail is awesome when emulating iOS (it's the perfect size) but attention to detail is key. With the right creative vision JoyOS for Prevails can be better than JoyOS for all other devices. However I am an impatient type and I might just tweak things myself through reverse engineering and share in this therad in the future, once I get my PC back. But the notification bar and pulldown definitely needs work. To repeat it doesn't feel Android nor iOS, which is why it's weak. So get rid of the Switchboard and make everything metallic gray including the bar like iOS 4 OR make it a black bar and black notifications like modern Android

OR! Get some white out and paint the phone white.
I think it'd be cool to have a white prevail. O.O

@rarewolf I wouldn't mind a white version myself, it'd be the closest an Android ever got in size shape and color to an iPhone!

@mjhealy78 did you install it? what are your impressions? pretty darn cool or what? ctmod sucks imo glad you're trying to get away

I've actually tried it a few days ago & it worked great other than some of my text messages were coming up as jibberish when I text people but not every text was messed up just certain ones? I've tried the alpha rom, honey bread, mokeemod, Dre beats 1.3, half ass rom 2.1 but I think this one is very cool too! I'm on my second rooted prevail & this is wicked interesting to me! I'm really a beginner with the whole Android scene but it makes me wanna learn more!

Yeah this is by far the best mod for the prevail because it aesthetically just overhauls Android while adding great functionality (press and hold the Home key, scroll around). The included Tahiti theme looks great on my phone:

that happened because u didn't go into the settings on the messaging app and select split text at 160 its a cdma phone if it is a text over 160 characters it goes all weird so u have to use that every rom has that just ctmod its already set i should have mentioned that before hand

Loaded this yesterday and have a weird issue.

I have a new message that won't download.

messages > name > new message

When I click on the thread there is a 'download' button. I click the download button and it says 'downloading' but nothing seems to happen.

New to me, anyone have this before?

yup, happens to me from time to time...(not rom specific tho) i haven't found a way download it when this happens either, most times resending it allows me to download it, BUT if it happens repetitively, i usually delete the database for my mms (located in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db) and rebooting. the file is recreated on boot and mms should work correctly again... but you will probably have to get the person to resend the mms again to receive it

What device did you port it to?
What steps did you take?
Did you reference a guide?
Try to be as detailed as possible.

sorry thanks for responding. so i ported this to my samsung galaxy prevail i used this as a guide GUIDE | How To Port JoyOS To Your Device | 2 Minute NOOBS Guide ~ blindndumb.com : Home Of Blind Series Android Custom ROMs and followed the instructions listed in this blog site also used cm7 base so i can port. Now once it came time to flash the zip onto my prevail i wiped/factory reset phone like it says in here to do 2-3 times and then wiped cache then advanced wiped dalvik cache the rom booted up it came to the boot logo and such and as it got to the lock screen the message appeared The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly please try again i re-did these steps twice in the blog site to make sure i did not do nothing wrong but once again the message appeared and i cant do anything but pull down the notification bar and look at the lock screen.
