Root Keep your EVO

LittleRedDot

Android Enthusiast
I have to say that I really love my new device! The G note does everything better than my evo did, and even a few things my evo couldn't do. But the support for this phone is pathetic, especially if you root. Any and all questions go unanswered, and the simple things you take for granted just aren't there. I miss my evo and this forum. If you can keep your EVOs any longer, just know that its cold out there.

yeah i here you. it is still a great phone especially if you root it then you are really releasing the true power of the phone. i also do miss it ( i have an evo 3d). that is why i'm gonna be moving on to the evo lte shortly. it looks like it is getting great support from here and the devs as well. and rooting it looks like it is so much easier to do.

the galaxy note is just too big for me. glad you are liking your new device.

Ya...I saw am ad on TV for the Note and I agree that it is too big. Kind of reminds me of the old Motorola Bricks of the '80's.

Also, I too have the OG EVO and love it, but am thinking of upgrading to the LTEVO in September.

I love the size of the note, I always loved a big screen. The if you measure them against each other the entire evo fits in the notes screen with a little extra pixels to spare.. The note is my dream device, and just wish I could run amon ra, or a2sd, or 1 of 20 things I could do with a rooted EVO. Just count your lucky stars.

Any brand new phone is going to have a slow start for development as soon as it comes out. Give it a bit and see what crops up.

When selecting a device the first thing I look for is specs, and right after that is dev support.

Thats ultimately why the only real choices I had when selecting a new device were the Gnex or the LTEVO. I knew both would have great dev support and I knew I couldnt go wrong either way.

Funny how when I got my phone the last thing on my mind was the "Development" it got. I just knew a few people who had the phone and said it was awesome. Yes it had some issues but I have yet to run into a phone that didn't. I had no idea that rooting a phone even existed. I vaguely remember looking for some information about something with the phone when I found this site. I remember checking out this "All Root forum" Place and seeing a lot of activity. I kept my post out in General population even that was a lively forum. The amount of information had really made me realize the power I have in this simple communication device called a Phone. The phone had more processor speed and memory than I ever dreamed of having with my first computer. Still member when I got my first 1meg video card and thinking man its good to be KING :) Most video cards at that particular time were around the 256kg mark I spent an extra hundred and fifty to get the 1 meg thinking I'll never have to upgrade that puppy again. But here is this small device that is about a 1000snth smaller and it has 5+ times the power of that first beast of a computer. So I was reading all this information about the phone and all the things it can do but its limited by the people who put it out and the only way around that is to root the phone and wake it up to its full potential. So I started reading the guide and asking questions then I dove in head first knowing that the water was refreshing instead of stagnant and cold. I found the friendliness of people here to surpass any expectation you could think of from a forum. And I have been a part of a few forums where the very first answer to your question is a question "Well did you do a search?" In which I normally responded with Well do you have to be an asshole or is it just well ingrained into you from your bastard daddy? I never remained a member for very long at their precious little club but there was a few that never bothered and were willing to help. Here they not only were not bothered if I had done a search they would do it for me and give me the info on a silver platter. I said to my self, Self these are some great people and I should jump in and start helping out with my knowledge and expertise. So I did. Now My friends are moving on with newer phones and I am going to have to wait until next april before I can upgrade from my powerhouse phone that will be ready to retire by then. I figure they will have the Evo 10 out and it will be a 1000 percent more than the one I currently own However with out great support like this then I will pass and go to where there is great support. The EVO being my first android phone and this being really my first android HOME, makes the whole process a very hard feat. I mean really how do you follow that?

Should be running ICS, but its got the touchwiz overlay which I'm not a huge fan of.

I'll have to play with it next time I go by the Sprint store, if it lacks the problems the EVO 4G has, I might just get it for my next upgrade ($$$ allowing, of course)

Thanks for the info!

EDIT:
awww... not available on Sprint... anyone know if Sprint will get it?

Yeah the only reason I got my hands on one is because I entered a writing competition at school and won second prize which was the note. I had to dump my sprint contract (they were fairly nice about it) and sign up with AT&T. It actually works out better because I had taht evo for a year and only got to use 4g once when I traveled to Atlanta, but att has LTE almost everywhere I go in my small city. I had an airwave in my apartment but I still get better service with att. If you like huge, brilliant displays then you migh want to go check it out.

It's running GB btw with an upgrade to ICS scheduled in 3 weeks or so.

You luck son of a....
Well, I'll wait, I'm not dumping my sprint - I'm still on the old SERO, so $35/$55 a month for truly unlimited data! (Though I hear you on the 4G, while I have 4G "two towns over" I rarely go there and it's very spotty...) Also where I am Sprint is 2nd best carrier (Verizon, Sprint, Att, Tmobile) and ATT doesn't even have 3G out here!

I'm hoping Sprint gets it soon... preferably before my upgrade in Sept ;) lol

Wow, impressive to be on GB... *looked up some videos*

I could have sold it, but it just so happened that my EVOs charging port went out literally the same day, so I had to scramble to ATT to get service. I do hate giving up unlimited data in theory, but in reality I never came near the 3 gigs I'm paying for now.

I'm on WiFi 90% of the time so I don't use a lot of data, but when I was in the middle of a move and without internet or cable for 2 weeks you bet I went over that with netflix streaming and using my EVOs internet for the ps3.

It's great to have it when its needed.

I'm currently using my phone for internet connectivity 5-6 days a week. I've been traveling around WV, Oh and PA working out of hotels and generally being out in the middle of nowhere. If I didn't have a rooted unlimited data plan, I'd be in internets withdraw bad!! Heck, I'm at least half the time without service of any kind let alone data. :(

I'm sorry to say it, right now if I had VZW I'd be a little better off, but not by much. ;)

I did get the El TEvo BTW. I'm really sorry I haven't been around as much, but the limited service and the need for guidance in the new forum drew me away more and more. :o

I bought out of my contract early for it.
I wasn't due for an upgrade till June 2013:eek:

I joined the EVO bandwagon late

You still have a great phone there bro, don't boo hoo too much, and great roms too!

This thing is faster and takes great pics, but, hard to beat mikG 3.11 or that Reloaded rom... REAL hard!

When they get the source code, i am sure the Devs will make some roms that kick butt though... ;)
