Can someone help junbringer and myself.

I too have just rooted my phone using unrevoked today. I am completely knew to this. I been on this site reading and rooting for the past 7 hours! The rooting for dummies helped me root but there's still alot i need to learn.

when we root with unrevoked what ROM and Kernal are we using?

Can someone do a step by step for me and junbringer on how we would go about getting this kernal?
 
After rooting with unrevoked you are on a stock rooted rom. Nothing has changes besides the fact you now have root privileges. If you want this kernel download the netarchy version and flash it as you would a rom.

Where do i find the netarchy version? Do i need to download Rom Manager to flash this?

I thought flashign a rom and a kernal were two different procedures?

How do i wipe cache and dalvik? is this in the rooting for dummies thread?

So this is a kernal correct and not a rom?

crap already stumped lol when i click on your link do i select direct download or download file?
 
You can direct download from Multiupload or you can download it from any of those other sites (mirrors). IMO Megaupload and Mediafire tend to be faster.

can i rename this file like (battery saver) ?

also when you install a kernal does it completely delete the old one off your phone and no longer have access to it? or will all the roms or kernals you've downloaded still be saved on your sd card?
 
can i just right click on the file on my desktop and select "send to usb drive" (which is my evo) or do i need to place it in a certain area?
 
I'd save it on the computer first just so you have it, and from what I've read here it needs to be in the root (very top) of your SD card.

You can rename it if you want. Just don't get rid of the .zip extension at the end.

Anything you flash will replace whatever was there before. If you keep a copy of zip files (roms, kernels, whatever) on your sd card, you can flash them whenever you want. The only thing you'll need to find again is the stock kernel, since you never flashed it from the beginning. You can find that anywhere if you ever want it back. Make a nandroid backup, first, of course.

It doesn't matter how you get it there as long as you put it on the root of your sd card after you transfer it there. You *can* put it in a subfolder if you use Clockwork, but it's so much easier to just put it on the root of the card.

Not a stupid question! It's just the very first screen you go to when you open your Evo in windows/my computer. Don't put it into a folder or anything, just put it right in there. :)
 
ok this is where im at



FLASHING KERNELS​


STEP 1: ROOT
Make sure you ROOT your device with SECTION 1 & 2.


STEP 2: BACKUP
Make sure you install ClockWorkMod and BACKUP your device with SECTION 3.


STEP 3: DOWNLOAD KERNEL
Find the Kernel you want to use, and download it.
The best place to start looking for Kernels is at HTC Evo Supersonic Kernels from XDA-Developers.


STEP 4: PUT IN SDCARD
Connect your Device to your Computer using your Micro USB cable.
Select DISK DRIVE and a popup window if your device should open on your Computer.
Find the Root of your SDCard. (LOWEST level possible, usually you'll see folders like DCMI and DATA)


STEP 5: BOOT CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY
Open ROM Manager and select Reboot into Recovery. Your Device will reboot itself.


STEP 6: SELECT ZIP FILE
Once your device has completely booted into ClockWorkMod Recovery Mode, select install zip from sd card.
Then select choose zip from sd card. Then navigate to the ZIP FILE you previously download and placed into the Root of your SDCard and Select it with the VOL DOWN toggle then press the POWER button.

The Kernel will then be installed. Do not worry if the screen starts acting up, flashing colors and different letters and numbers or full words on the screen. It's normal.

The Recovery Mode screen will reappear. Select reboot with the VOL DOWN toggle and press POWER button.

I selected the zip and on the very bottom it says install from sdcard complete.

on the very top i dont have a reboot option i have
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-choose zip from sdcard
-toggle signature verification
-toggle script asserts
****go back*****

I tried sdcard update.zip but i got a failed message. i hit back and then hit reboot. my phone is up again. how do I know if i successfully installed the new kernal?

U want to choose zip from sd card option. Once its done it will give an install complete or successful message

I did see that as a procedure under the rooting for dummies?

I did not do this. Did i mess anything up?
