Initial Release

Hey bloodawn, I think I have found the source of the USB 3D performance boost. It has something to do with the ramdisk. Using ndno's overclock kernel combined with the CM7 ramdisk I was able to get a significant increase in 3D performance. Care to take a look and see if you can figure out what's going on?

Ill look at it when I get home from work

Is it possible to remove ramdisk support from the kernel, I know its possible to bulid an android from without a ram disk, just a thought...

I looked thru those the other night but nothing jump out at me. Going to look again tonight. I did try one line from the cm7 init but no luck.

I take it back. Not sure what the hell is going on. I think the tools I'm using to build these ramdisks are janky because sometimes the build results in a boost, and sometimes it doesn't. It appears that whatever changes I'm making to the files in the ramdisk are being ignored. I know that using the command line argument: ' console=ttyMSM1 androidboot.hardware=qcom' seems to disable the boost and makes the radios work.

Yes, that was in fact the problem. Some janky tool that is supposed to extract and rebuild the ramdisk was just doing whatever the hell it pleased. Found a better one, will try some more testing.

Here's what I've determined so far:

I've triple checked this, so I'm very confident in my results. The 3D boost has something to do with a file or files in the CM7 ramdisk. It is also very unlikely that it has anything to do with init.rc, init.goldfish.rc, or any of the uevent files. I'm actually quite surprised by the results of my testing. I extracted all of the files in the ramdisk for CM7 and Hyper. I then combined them, overwriting the redundant CM7 files with the Hyper files. I reconstructed the ramdisk, and the performance boost is still there, but so are the problems with screen responsiveness and inability to connect to a network. This leads me to believe that something is initialized in the CM7 ramdisk that is not initialized in the stock or hyper ramdisks. So if we can figure out what that is, and disable whatever is breaking the network connections, we should be golden.

I was wrong, the binaries adbd, chargerlogo and init are different. If i was to try one it would be init.

If you have a Windows machine WinMerge is awsome for comparing files and folders.

Don't try the init binary, boots, but several things don't work.

The cm7 boot.img has ueventd.lge.rc which has this line in it.
Code:
# gpu driver for adreno200 is globally accessible
/dev/kgsl 0666 root root
If found this post. This may be what we're looking for as ti why cm7's scores are higher. This is starting to move of topic of this thread tho.;)

Lets start a new thread and encourage people to climb aboard . More minds equals more breakthroughs in less time

finally had some time to work on the kernel. I've changed a shitload in it.

it should be ready for release soon and maybe in the release the benchmark will be even better =p

Holy crap... cant wait bro
The CPU integer and 3d scores are off the chain

Version 1.0
Built with Linaro Toolchain 4.6
Patched from 2.6.35.7 to 2.6.35.14
Added Overclock and Undervolt
Overclocked GPU a little (dunno if it actually makes a difference)
Added new governors and schedulers
Added a 5th frequency
Disabled fsync
Added Cleancache driver
Added some stuff from the Optimus Black CM7
Some other changes, upgrades and tweaks I don't remember

the default clock is 1000 max and 250 min, default governor is Ondemand and default scheduler is Deadline so you'll need to use Voltage Control or some shit if you want to change anything.

I still need to tune a couple of the governors (smoothass and brazilianwax, maybe another idk)

all the main info is in the first post, heres a couple screenshots:

Looks like I need to get a better microSD card. First try phone froze after booting to homescreen so had to do a battery pull. Wipe cache and seemed to fix it. Anyway it could just be my phone, but freezes when I run antutu more than once. Tried to do screenshot after doing benchmark and froze again, each time had to do a battery pull. So Im guessing something ain't right with my phone. Waiting to see results from others.

Sounds like your phone can't handle the voltage I have it set to. Ill probably make a extra 1.0 that more phones should be able to handle.

Hey blood, the kernel didn't work for me either... constant freezing, reboots, and weirdly it disabled my Widgets, wasn't able to run antutu either, anyways thanks for the work I know you will make this work. My phone has been able to run every other kernel up until this one.

Working perfectly for me so far, hit 3300 benchmark with defaults at 1350. Trying to learn more about governors, etc now. Great work Blood, thanks!
