Kick Ass Boot Animation

You will need a ROOTED phone to be able to to this. I'm sorry, I should have posted this in All Things Root.


I finally got this boot animation to work correctly(sorta)* on the Prevail:

*The animation is a bit slower than the one in the video and towards the end with the burning apple it gets a little choppy but still worth it!

How did I do it?

I edited the desc file. The first two sets of number(3 digit numbers) are suppose to be the screen resolution of the phone . I changed it to 320 420. Then used WinRar to rezip(Add to Archive) Part0 Part1 folders and the edited desc file. Chose "zip" as the archive method and the compression was set to "store".

I used the app Boot Animation Changer put it in the phone but some of you may know that to use the Import function you need to pay for it but I found a way around it. When you backup the stock animation via BAC it makes a folder in the SD card named "bootanimSTOCK". You can trick BAC into thinking any boot animation is the stock one you backed up by replacing the bootanimation.zip with one of your liking. After replacing it, go back into the main menu of BAC then > Advanced Settings > choose Restore Stock Animation, reboot your phone and you will have your own custom animation without having to pay for the premium upgrade. OR you could just use file explorer and go to /system/media and replace the file :p

I didn't make the boot animation I just edited the settings so it would work with the Prevail correctly. I don't know if the original had any sounds. Pretty cool stuff they did with the animations probably used AutoCad or 3DMax to make these high quality animations. Hopefully one day I can learn how to do these too as I get further into my CADD degree ;) We're only on 2D drawing atm.
 
I just want to be sure I'm doing this right . Do you mean edit the desc.txt file or go through and edit every picture ? I know , I know ..... I'm new to this kinda thing ... I just want to make sure that I do it correctly . Also , I'm gonna use file explorer . After opening the zip and doing the modification , I'll copy it to my SD card then cut the original and paste it to the SDcard then copy and paste the new bootani to replace it . Do I have this correct ? THX !!

Please forgive me if I just made your eyes cross and gave you a headache > :D

No, do not edit any of the images in either Part0 or Part1 folders! Only edit the desc file which is a text file. When you open it up you should only see text. Don't worry about the resolutions on the individual images in the folder, once you edit the desc with the correct resolution for the Prevail it will automatically adjust the animation size to fit the screen. After editing the desc file use WinRar or another zip program to compress into a zip again. You Zip 3 files which are the original unedited, untouched Part0 and Part1 folders and the edited desc file which you just did. Important!: Make sure you use compression method as "STORE" if you don't the animation will just be a black screen.

Forgot to mention the 3 set of numbers in desc after the screen resolution size is the frames per second I believe. it should be something like XXp or XXXp, X=Number, You can change it to make the animation look like it's faster. I changed mine to like 500 but mess around with it to suit your needs.

Glad it worked! Now go forth and find more boot animations. If you find any good ones share them with us! Now if only we can find a way to use custom sound to go along with those animations :D If anyone can find a converter for Mp3 to Snd then we will be set. One that is preferably phree ;)

I'm off & running !!!!!!! Already changed it 3 x . LOL . I'm on the Transformer 1 . Cool Beanz . :D I'll keep my eyes open 4 new 1's . YouTube ????
 
Found some converters but they aint cheap :eek: ! Gonna keep looking and contact some friends to see if they know of any that r cheap or better yet .... PHREE !

Yea, I've searched for some too and one even came back as being $40! I only want to convert like no more than 10 seconds worth of mp3 audio to snd.
 
i don't have a bootanimation.zip ... it's bootani.qmg. BAC doesn't find it even if i put path in manually. it says it makes a backup but folder is empty. what do i do?
and for the adding sound, i used the following method to add sound to my moment. basically it uses a modified PowerON.snd or PowerOn_standard.snd which is the sound you hear with boot logo. u add on to it and it plays thru the boot animation. hope this helps

plz help. im new to all this but i need a vary basic step by step sent to me. dont know how to edit desc files. i am rooted

As far as I know , the Boost animation & sound files can be changed so they wont run on start up which I have done . New Optimus and wyelkins have tried changing the sound . You might wanna check with them if you are trying to do that . If you don't alter the files correctly , you can mess your phone up where it will not boot . BE CAREFUL !

Call me dumb but I have tried everything from switching the the boot screen app to using root explore to switch the stock animations. When I did that tbs screen was all black. So I changed it back. I needto know how to change the resolution

Yep. I renamed a file or two so that the Boost sound would not play and the logo would not display. This seemed to work fine. About 2 days later my phone bricked, but not sure that it was related. I did not really do much else during that time to blame it on except connect the phone to a cheap battery charger that may have fried something. Anyway, I have not done this yet on the replacement phone and probably will not.

I disable the Boost boot ani. & sound several weeks ago and no probs so far . I hope it stays that way ! :p:D

Like I said , I don't think you can changed the Boost ani. . You can only rename the files so they don't run . I renamed mine so the only boot ani. that I am running is Simple Green by Bloodawn . Here are the steps if you want to stop the sound and boot ani . . You will need Root Explorer or something similar . As I said before .... BE CAREFUL !! ;)

system/media/bootani.qmg
to
system/media/_bootani.qmg

and

from
system/media/samsungani.qmg
to
system/media/_samsungani.qmg


You will no longer have the Boost animation or sound at start up . Now you can modify the boot animation as you like . I recommend trying the two links I posted in the other thread to start with . :D

yes I disabled the boost animation long time ago as well as the sound, I now have the android with the spinning circle animation, from bloodgreen I think.
I think that it boots faster now. I dont get a lengthy black screen then the new animation just goes directly to the animation and then on.
As to renaming them yup did that long time ago I tried to have it play a 10 second mp3 all it did was squeak for about 2 seconds. It was funny but not enough to keep it.

Yeah , I posted how to disable the Boost ani & sound . If you don't understand ..... don't go in to the system and start messing around . That's a good way to BRICK your phone and I would hate to see you do that . Keep hanging around and reading . Either you'll figure it out or someone will come out with an app. .
 
WELL I GUess my question should have been how to change screen resolution. i have already changed the ddensiity from 160 down to 130
