LauncherPro Plus?

sorry to post this again, but i didn't get an answer from you guys. so the question was

"i am an android newbie, but what i was wondering is when froyo launches (hopefully soon), won't Droid X be given more customizable Droid X only widgets + better droid launcher? Or is that not what that update will do at all?"

can someone help me out?

I'm a newbie and I can't figure out how to install it. I used my desktop to purchase the app via Paypal. I got to the download link and it said I have to copy the APK file to my SD card and then use Astro File Manager to open it. So I mounted my phone and copied the file to my SD card (just created a TEMP folder). Instaleld Astro on my Droid X, but when I click on the file, it just goes one directory deeper and shows the contents. If I said "Open as", there is no option to install or use App Manager to install.

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the extension is .apk, and not something like .apk.zip

Also, make sure that you have 'unknown sources' checked under settings->applications

When you click on the .apk it should give you 2 options: 1) Browse File and 2) Open App Manager. Chose #2, and you should be good from there.

is there a way to go from LauncherPro back to stock launcher without uninstalling LauncherPro? and if i do that, will all my settings and preferences be removed?

Ah ha, it IS .apk.zip, which is why Astro is showing the contents instead of fixing me the app manager option. So now what do I do? Did I copy the wrong file to my sd card? Or do I have to extract it first?

Download "Home Switcher" from the app store. It'll allow you to switch back and forth between the 2.

after reading about what he is creating (btw the money he hopes will allow him to hire help) he will have comparable widgets to htc sense.
On on hand it sucks that Motorola can get it so wrong but launcher pro plus and dialer one get it right so... eh.. whatever

I like the MOTO dialer at least I don't call people all the time by accident anymore like I did with the HTC Incredible.

So that's all you have to do? Copy the APK file from your pc to the sd card? Without having to put it in some special folder?

I'm new to all of this, and want to make sure I install it properly.

APK is the format you want it in and you can put it anywhere you'll be able to find it so you at least need to know how to get around the file system. Astro file manger is very popular and is what the following was done with when I learned it.
When you tap on the APK file it make sure you "tap" if you hold down too long you actually get the "file operations" menu. if you "tap" you'll get the "application File" menu. From the "application File" menu select "open app manager"

Thanks for the help. I did just that, I installed and ran LauncherProPlus using AstroFileManager, and after it installs successfully, I attempted to "Launch' the program, but keep getting the error: "Activity Not Found - com.fede.launcher"

I than attempted to uninstall and reinstall it, but it yielded the same message.

Anyone know what's going on?

Edit: I renamed the file and it magically worked.

I deleted LPP and and did a total reset. I wasn't sure of what was making my fone so jumpy and jerky. I had LPP, Beautiful Widgets and a scrolling calendar program. The whole lot took so long to load and my UI became so jerky, I deleted it. I find going back to the original UI far smoother. Sorry to be a downer.

Downloaded Home Switcher, but whenever I press the physical "home" button, it goes back to LP. I made my default home my motorola stock launcher and it still goes back to LP. Any idea on how to switch back to stock completely without uninstalling LP?

I had never tried Launcher Pro, but because helixLauncher2 isn't available on the X and I heard so many good things about Launcher Pro I decided to try it. I liked it after 10 minutes so I bought it just to support the developer. I don't even use the widget

Yep, worked for me too after renaming and getting rid of the .zip extension. Since we had to side-load this version of the app, does that mean we have to go though the same process each time there is an update? If so, I sure hope he's able to do the unlock code through the Market to make this process easier.

Its a quirk with the way Moto implemented their launcher. It won't stay at default nor will it show up as a choice for default launcher without homeswitcher installed. the only way I've found to go back to moto.blur and have it be the default is to not have any other launcher installed.

Have you guys noticed that on LPP, the People Widget doesn't work the same way as it does on the LP website?
on the website, the picture says that when you click a person, the option of calling, texting, emailing and such come up (pictured below). However, when i do it on my phone, it just goes to their contact info.
im just hoping that the future update will fix that.

What if you long press?

I remember that list of icons of apps popping up on my old Droid sometimes by accident when I was trying to do something.
