Leaked 2.1 or Waiting for OTA?

I am still indecisive at this point. Haven't updated yet but if Verizon doesn't release it soon I might not be able to resist!!! :)

All the hard work customizing your scenes is done just take some screenshots and it won't take you long to make it look the same!

I have enough paper weights around the house, I don't need another.

Has anyone checked out all the posts about "this or that doesn't work, any ideas?". If half the shit on my phone isn't going to work, why the hell would I want to update? My phone works great as it is, I'll take the OTA once Verizon deems it necessary to offer it.

Did it, absolutely no regrets ... and I'm surprised that in a board with such a high proportion of tech hobbyists, there's as much nervousness as there is.

Life is short, and you've gotta be bold once in a while ... even in silly little things like this.

I think that those waiting will be waiting a long time. Since Apple went after HTC on their patent infringements, I bet HTC is not in any hurry to officially release another version of an OS that could end up costing them more money or increase the likelihood of further suits until this is hashed out with Apple.
That doesn't make any Sense at all (pun intended). But you already know that.

You consider a phone update "bold"? I'll bet you're a hoot to hang out with.

can you deny the OTA when it comes and hold out to see what others have to deal with? Or does it force the install?

if you can deny, how often does it ask you to update?
You can tell it "no" and it will bug you every few hours (?). I don't know if there's a counter and you only get "x" tries before you're not given the option.

If you think back, that is the same type of thread we have had after every OTA. Some of it is being resolved and some of it won't. Most of it is pretty minor.

On the plus side, we have a working YouTube app. :P

Google navigation is what prompted me to leak. Took it for a drive today and it works perfectly. Text to speech, turn by turn, I didn't even have to type in an address. Just told it where i wanted to go and BAM I'm on my way.

I am definitely waiting for the OTA on this one. I would rather wait for a seemingly less buggy one, than rush and install a leaked one that isnt complete.

the leaked version is sitting on my computer desktop right now. But, I'm sketched out and would rather wait for the legit version to hit. Getting antsy though!

Perhaps I'm not reading the right thread, but where do we get this 'leaked 2.1' for Eris and where are instructions to flash/install?

Thanks ahead of time.

Waiting here. No fear of bricking or anything. I just don't like the fact that I can't revert back to 1.5 if I have any issues with my phone.

I am currently on my 4th Eris and am in the process of returning this one as well. Keep having speaker issues.

Since it seems root is not going to happen too soon I'll just stick with what works for now.

Look...we have waited since the phone was released in October, a couple more weeks or even a month or two isn't very long now. Besides who wants to buy the phone again.

I'll wait. I don't like what I hear about having to login every time you reboot the phone.

Good question, Frisco. i began asking myself this morning "How long do you give it before you cave?"

On my computer, i will jump at the latest "leaked" app or OS, because I know how to fix it. On my phone...

Yep, scaredy cat.... I want to wait a few days, minimum, for the OTA or problem reports from those who went before me...

I hear you. I've been avidly reading in the "2.1 bugs and fixes" thread. There are some (to me) serious issues, a few deal-breakers even.

If those are not addressed by the time we get the OTA 2.1 I will absolutely have to go to another, more reliable device (assuming the update is not optional).

What are the deal-breaker issues you speak of?

Ok here's my input after I pulled the trigger.

Refined UI, menus look nicer etc. Cool animations.
Exchange active sync working great.
New camera is top notch.
Google Nav is like having an entirely different device when launched. One that is f'n awesome. Last night I was using the Nav, received an email. Launched the email app from the notification area, replied to the email and hit the back key. Zap, I was right back in my Nav which had been running and giving me voice directions while I was typing the email.
New notification Icon for gmail.
New icons all around.
Much peppier.
Yesterday was the first time I haven't had to charge my battery mid day.
New unlock pattern screen dots in a much tighter....uh....pattern, for me this means it is much easier to use. It also tells you when your next alarm is set to sound.

New real estate saving agenda view for calendar widget.

I am sure I will find more.

I have not had a single issue other than the "Get more HTC widgets" link not working but this may be a back end service that has not been activated yet.

My gmail does not prompt at restart and all seems to be working. So that's how it has gone for me. I'll post more as I know more.
