Let's talk cases for the HTC EVO 3D.

How is that TPU case by the way? Is it rubbery or hard? I was worried that a rubbery or silicone style case would cause heating problems with heavy use of the handset. I am in a bind and need a case as soon as possible and I want one that is not super bulky, and could potentially be slipped into a pouch for my belt.

If, by any chance, you could share the eBay link to the case, I would be grateful. Also, any added insight on the case would be appreciated. For example, does this case press against the glass of the rear camera pod or is it above it? I am worried dust will work its way in there and get pushed against it and scratch it.

Hi, the TPU case is rubbery, not hard. I have not had issues with heating at all, as I use Battery Monitor Widget to track the temperature and my Evo 3D has stayed very cool.

I love this case. The back is in some contact with the camera glass (although it does sit above it) but it doesn't move so there is very little chance of rubbing. Also I have the Phantom Skinz screen protector which is layered between the camera and the case, so no chance of sratching.

The ebay link is pretty long, but the ebay item item # is: 400227814496.

Good luck!

I think I may get the body glove purple one just to have for now to use at work when listening to music or to stand up while I am sitting at my desk. I saw it online in pink for cheaper and then the store showed it to me and I didn't like the way the top and bottom weren't completely covered in the front but I won't be using it for every day. I love my Seidio Active but I need something for now with a kickstand and I can charge this to my Sprint bill so I think I'll go get one tomorrow when I'm off. Is it easy to take on and off?

It's incredibly easy to take off. Not too easy that it would slip off the phone during regular usage, but easy enough if you need to handle the phone by itself. The best way to put it on is to slip the entire right side in first, since the camera and volume buttons have their own enclosed windows. Then snap in the left side of the phone, and you're done.

After seeing the rest of the competition that feature kickstands, the BG is the sturdiest by a longshot. The downside about the way it's set up, is that when you snap it open, it does expose the backside of the phone in that area where the kickstand opens up. About a one inch by one and a half inch horizontal rectangle to be exact. It's not the big of a deal really, but I just thought I'd mention it. Oh, and the other thing is that the power button part of the case is open ended. I haven't had any problems with that feature, but as a precaution, I do keep it upright inside my pocket, just in case.

The case itself is very smooth in texture, and quite elegant. It does resemble a skin, because I've had many people ask me why I have a purple phone. But besides that, it does it's job. As for the camera side, it has enough thickness and depth to protect the device if it fell flat (shallow fall of course). The speaker opening does allow you to hear it reasonably well, but there have been times when I've had the volume set at half, and I could barely hear it on my pocket. I guess that also depends on the type of ringtone you have set too. Mine is set on Modular Light, since it has a high tone.

Overall, if you're not the type that handles your phone every hour of the day, drops it often, or into rigourous activities that would endanger your phone, then you'll be fine with this case. It's a lightweight compared to the other durable cases out there, but it does give you a little protection. Perfect for office use.

I hope that mini review helps.

I picked up a black and a smoke TPU case, to see which I liked more. At those prices, I figured why not? I also grabbed a set of Phantom Skinz with a promo code, so it was only around $7.00 total. How long did it take for your TPU cases and Phantom Skinz to arrive?

The less time my Sprint HTC EVO 3D has to go naked, the better I will feel. By the way, do you have any recommendations on a DC car charger that will not fry my handset?

Anyone out there have the Seido Convert Combo? I see it on Amazon for $39.
I wonder if this would be a good case to go with vs the Ballistic HC case. I am just not sure I want to wait until Sept for the Ballistic case.

My wife has this case and loves the multidirection kickstand as she likes to stream music while cleaning or reading in bed. (luckily we have similar music tastes...) She generally keeps her phone in her purse and is not a heavy user so it works good for her. I agree that taking the case off is a breeze and it snaps on securely. I personally wouldn't use it but she loves it all the same.

The only difficulty she had with it is that the kickstand was difficult to open for the first week or so.. so keep that in mind if you think it is defective at first.

Wow, I didn't realize the Ballistic case wouldn't be available until September... WTF? Why so late?

Not sure, if you look a few posts up I copied the email that was sent to me from Ballistic when I inquired about when the HC case would be available

My kickstand fits flush with the case, so I don't have any issues with that at all. It has that additional bevel that snaps the kickstand into the closed and locked position once it's shut. After it's initial use, I had no problem opening and closing it.

I didn't like the Otter Box or the Seidio, so I just went with the least bulkiest at the time of purchase. If the Ballistic doesn't live up to the hype, then I may go with something else entirely. Even if it doesn't have a kickstand.

If you aren't going to take the back cover off very often the TPU case is the case to go with IMHO. I had one for the EVO 4G and hands down best case I have ever used. If you need a holster like posted above buy the Seidio or Platinum Best Buy rebranded holster.

Yes I bought a smoke and black as well, but the blue is my favorite. :D

It took about a week for the TPU cases and Phantom Skinz to arrive. I ordered them the same day I ordered my Evo, and they all arrived the same day!!

I am just using a generic car charger that I bought for my Samsung Moment back in 2009, which I have used for my Epic, Evo 4G, and now my Evo 3D. I think I got it from Fry's Electronics or Walmart...never had a problem yet. :)

PS - when you apply the Phantom Skinz, use a spray bottle to lightly mist the screen so the screen protector will go on easily and adjust easily. Don't be lazy like I was and just slap it on without a sprayer...I have some minor stretch marks since a small portion of the screen protector stuck and stretched ever so slightly. It does not affect visibility at all, just doesn't look as good as my Evo 4G where I used a sprayer and the Phantom Skinz was applied perfectly without any blemishes. These are truly the best screen protectors I have used, and I have used a lot.

Just got my $4 case (free shipping) from ebay as well, much better than I expected! No more looking for a cloth to set my phone down on.
Yup these are hands down the best cases for the money!!! :)

Thanks for the tip about the spray bottle. I just happen to have one, so that should do nicely.

I guess I am mostly just worried about getting too much moisture onto and into the handset. I put a water based screen protector on my wife's old Sprint Palm Pre, but it was a harrowing experience for me.

Yup I understand your concerns.

I have put Phantom Skinz and numerous other wet install screen protectors now on probably 3 dozen gadgets (tablets, mp3 players, phones, GPS units, cameras, etc)... I have never had an issue. As long as you don't saturate the device with water, lightly mist, and have a microfiber towel handy to soak up excess water after application, it should be fine.

I always take the battery out, and let the device sit for at least 4-6 hours and then replace the battery, and everything is fine. I've had devices with wet installed screen protectors since 2008 / 2009, and no issues at all! :)

Yesterday I picked up the HTC branded hard plastic snap together case that Sprint sells. It's available online and just arrived in stores this week. Pretty cool case, not great grip though. I'll upload pics soon.

FYI to anyone considering the iCarpus stand --

a) it does work, and the phone is stable with it.

b) the way the two prongs works and because of the various volume buttons, camera shutter button, etc. on one side and the USB/MHL port on the other, there is a funny situation where you simply cannot use the iCarpus as intended and charge at the same time in landscape.

In other words, the icarpus can fit perfectly without getting in the way of anything in only one position, with the double prong right below the charging port. Unfortunately this means that if you wanted to view in landscape, only one prong sits on the table instead of two, and it's not super stable.

Hard to explain, hopefully pictures do justice.

I've got this nagging paranoid feeling I should have gotten the OtterBox Defender instead of the Commuter... While I am happy with my Commuter I'm having "grass is greener" syndrome I think.

The defender is really bulky, so you wouldn't likely be able to use those other pouches and whatnot you have with it.

Does anyone know if the following case is real:

Amazon.com: HTC 70H00430-00M Hard Shell with Kickstand for HTC EVO 3D - 1 Pack - Bulk Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

It looks great and I've seen it on a few websites but none have any in stock....any idea if or when it's coming out?
It's not coming out. This was the case designed by HTC for the EVO 3D, but they decided not to produce it because it put the volume controls on the bottom when the phone was using the kick stand(frankly who cares, once you set your volume, you're done) and besides I use a video player that lets me control the volume from the touch screen(HTC should have thought about doing that!) I had a pre-order for this case and just found out today, after 3 weeks, it's not going into production after all. Thanks a lot HTC!

I just posted this on HTC's Facebook page:
Hey HTC why did you drop the Kickstand case for the EVO 3D? Bad enough it didn't come with one from the get go, but to dangle the thing in front of us, have us place pre-orders for it, and then right before it was to ship, pull it altogether? I bought my EVO 3D because I heard this case was coming out and knew I would still be able to watch multi media like I did on my EVO 4G. A lot of people are really pissed by this decision, maybe you should reconsider, it is your FLAGSHIP phone BTW.
See if I can stir things up a bit. I'm really pissed. I waited for this case for almost a month, it was supposed to ship this week, and then have them pull it. It just sucks, and not in a good way!

I saw your post and HTC's reply. I don't think they answered the question very well about the case. The reply, to me, seems like an answer as to why they didn't include a kickstand on the EVO 3D the begin with. What are your thoughts on their reply to you?

I bought the extended battery 4000mAh and SURFACE cover to fit, from SEIDIO. Now if they would make a KICKSTAND case that would fit the SURFACE cover OVER the extended battery and backdoor to fit...now THAT would make me happy!:p
