Root LG Ally 2.1 Update is being RELEASED

i was hoping for an unrooted one

If thats what you want revert back to complete stock and wait for ota. Official ota has to be applied to stock v8 and there is no way to apply it manually with stock recovery. There is no point in uploading ota as its mostly patch files to patch v8 to vzb. I manually applied it to stock v8 with a custom recovery but thats not something Im going to instruct others on.

Yep seems he didnt follow these steps. Bad things can happen if you don't follow directions. Pay special attention to the md5 checking.

I did follow those I was also doing like4 other things once. I flashed back to my old image and will try again when I can pay attention to detail.

Just a sneak peek at what's in development currently. Linpack tops out stock at ~4.2 MFLOPs.

Checkout the top Linpack's for ally above 6 MFLOPS:

is the increase in mflops due to the new ota update

noob question... what are you all talking about mflops and such. You don't have to explain it but if you have some resources or something i could look up or read, i'd greatly appreciate it.

mflops = MegaFlops. Here's the definition I found off of google bc I didn't feel like explaining what it is.. (hehe) megaflop : a unit of processing speed in a computer, equal to one million flops. In computing, FLOPS (or flops or flop/s) is an acronym meaning FLoating point Operations Per Second.
SOO.. Basically, the higher the number megaflops or "mflops" a CPU is calculating, the faster it will be.

Note that it says that they fixed root, so I wouldn't rush to update as soon as you get it, sticking to velocity for now.

Can you confirm that what you mean is, if we take this update the normal OTA way, we'll lose root and won't be able to re-root, either with Universal Androot or the more lengthy and frustrating manual method?

Thanks, that's what it sounds like, I just want to be sure. I couldn't find anybody concretely confirming this...

so quick question which is the better way to go? Is the new velocity rom better, or is the vzb8 rom better? If anyone has tried them both wants to chime in please do so. I just want to know before I put one on. Thanks everyone.

Ota can be rooted fyi. I just flashed recovery on it via fastboot. Didnt try androot which I suspect still works. There is another root attack too. The original method we initially used is more than likely closed.

So Universal Androot "should" still work post-OTA update? If so, I might allow the update. The only thing I really need root for right now is use of Barnacle on my device from time to time, and as I have more time in the future, I'll probably remove the useless apps that Verizon has installed on this phone to free up some memory.
