LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

Hate to admit it..... but I'm strongly considering just getting a M8 for $99.

I can compromise on many things with phones.... battery life during real world usage isn't one of them.

I just got back from the store with mine.

Used my Best Buy buyback option on my two year old phone, grabbed some Bose ie2 earbuds courtesy of the management because they didn't have the Sprint M8 Harman Kardon model, out the door for $116 and $40 of that was the earbuds.

It's Father's Day, grab the hundred dollar special.

Just got back, they forgot my other $50 discount.

Make that $66.78 out the door with the headset.

M8 is a topnotch phone. Every phone has tradeoffs. You have 2 weeks to decide if you have made the right decision.

Me thinks the G3 could have ironically been the best phone to date evah' had LG simply used the G2's display res and tech. Curse their need for market differentiation and the generally shallow perspective of consumers. Curse em' all! :) ;) :)

I would like performance and battery life not compromised by a display res I will not notice on a small display.

These new reviews have me really reconsidering this purchase. Low brightness, hot, poor battery if you actually use it..........I'm actually back to wishing there was an S5 with 32gb. I'd say I'm interested in the S5 Prime, but I don't see how it skirts the same issues the G3 is having with pixel problems.

I share the same concerns. I've decided to wait until there are confirmed specs and reviews for the US model before I make a purchase decision. I definitely won't be pre-ordering.

Waaaaaay too early to throw in the towel,YMWV. ;)
Put one through the paces, whether a store demo,or,take one home w/you.

Most carriers have a 14-day return/refund policy,w/a restocking fee of $35-$50:

Device return FAQs | T-Mobile Support

Return & Exchange Policy Insider's Guide by Verizon Wireless

Sprint Satisfaction Guarantee Policy

AT&T Return Policy & Early Termination Fee - from AT&T

I'd loathe a restocking fee just as much as the next person, but, worst case scenario,it's a fairly inexpensive price to pay to be an early adopter.

I'm right back to where I was when the M8/S5 came out. M8 = beautiful, great sound (with headphones as well, important), but huge bezel, slippery (have to get a case and hide the beauty), and not waterproof. S5 = waterproof, but no 32gb. Ugh.

To paraphrase EM, there are no magic bullets as far as hardware, so kind of is what it is. The sum of parts in this case makes sense, based on reviews and owners at XDA. Fair apparent summation at this point would be if you are a heavy user, this might not be the best device option. Ditto if live mainly in a warmer climate.

Still as you note, a person can test the device out and see for one's self :)

Added: A biggie IMO will be if the versions our carriers sell are easy to root and how well the GPU and display behave with down scaling to 1080p. THEN the G3 could still be the best device evah' for heavier users. I would not be surprised to hear about resets and shutdowns for users that root and disable the hardware throttling at Qhd res. Especially folks that mess with governor and lower level display settings if in Qhd. Ouch.

The Nook HD is a good example of an easy root device that looked fine downscaled. Some device do not fair as well.

Definitely a good idea to garner as much info as possible,& go into it with an open mind & no pre-conceived conclusions.

For those that haven't come across this,I found it to be a pretty cool tool to guesstimate battery life on several phones.

Battery life tests - GSMArena.com

Of course, there's no possible way for anyone to vouch for the accuracy of all phones listed here, but,I'm guessing it's reasonably accurate.

I think the thing that jumps out to me there is web browsing:

SG5 - 9:36 Hours
M8 - 9:06 hours
G3 - 6:40 hours:mad:

*g3 blows them both out of the water on talk time which skews the final results. But honestly, in this day and age who cares about talk time.

If accurate, probably supports what rush has been saying about GPU uses by browsers.

Also shows longer life on video playback (screen dimming) that skews total battery rating.

I primarily use my phone for web surfing.... this phone is starting to shape up as a solid pass for me.:(

The sad thing is.... they are reporting an almost 50% less web time than the G2.

G2 - 11:22H
G3 - 6:40H

Maybe I should just get a G2 LOL.

Or maybe you should wait until us release with a more solid review... Just saying

Yep, conundrum. IMO:

M8 = Signal 1 to 2 dBm weaker than my average signaled S4, huge bezel and taller than the much bigger displayed G3.

S5 = No 32gb. Nuff said.

G3 = Overkill display, but could be set to 1080p and be a performance king. Assuming downscaling works correctly on the device and no issues. Even if 1080p works, the display is still powering all the pixels, so perhaps not the magic bullet expected. EM right again?

Thats the plan... but my optimism is waning;)
It's okay human nature has many weak quality. Not saying that it is bad but we tend to get carried away with our decision. While people may justify your choices or consideration a Little bit it also impacts us when we see negative feedback. But first and most we need to remember that our own judgment on is very important. Because then you'll know for certain in your own accord.

Not everyone thinks like you, nobody is you. You know your needs and functions for your own self. Who convince yourself the most? Well it have to be you.

Edit: expect display of 2k, 4k and so on from now on. When it's on its on and that's one thing engineer, manufacturer, and visionary see. Technology "moving" to another level.

IMHO,I don't think any of these numbers are horrible by any stretch.

Anyone who couldn't make it through the waking hours of the day would be the exception, rather than the rule, unless you're a hermit, locked in a single room w/no human interaction & no other stimuli, day in & day out. ;)

Besides, the battery is removable & no doubt, extended batteries will certainly be popping up any day now.

Just thought I'd throw some gas on the proverbial battery life discussion fire to kick it into gear...... :D

 glad you put so much thought into that. Didn't realize my comment was so philosophically moving. Regardless... I'll vote with my $.

Glad some of you are feeling the same way. Considering talking on the phone is one of the things I do much less now, I don't care how many hours of time it would take to kill it with that method.

I web browse and use social media. And fairly heavily at that. I shouldn't have to worry about those things being the top killers of draining my phone twice as quickly as the previous model simply due to a screen. And it sucks that the more we found out about this thing, the more disappointed many became.

I'm holding out for better US reviews before I take a $700+ shot on this thing. The kicker is that if it's not the G3, the other options all have their own downfalls as well as stated above. No 32gb, no removable battery, crappy camera, etc...

I tried the Moto X and the M8 and for various and personal reasons, I returned them. The G2 replaced my Iphone 5S and I am very happy with it. The ability to try a phone for 14 days and then make a decision based on your personal use is far better than reading a subjective or biased review.

QFT!
I've been pretty happy with every phone I've had, with the one exception of that stupid Bionic. :p
Got only cause my patience was running out waiting for the Gnex. I think reviews thus far for the G3 have been pretty good, but since a lot of "tech" folks loved the G2, they expected the next one to blow them away.

Will for sure hold off now on the G3 and see what shakes and pans out with the Prime. I have no desire to play with battery life and performance like a seesaw. The Prime of course could have the same apparent balancing issue. If even released here of course.

Given that battery life is the number one average concern with consumers, the display tech efficiency needs to catch up to the resolution. What LG states they did and the apparent results are like a seesaw with a gerbil on one side and a brown bear on the other. Perhaps too exaggerated: A gerbil and a woodchuck?
