LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

I don't remember agonizing over any previous purchase this much, and I'm not quite sure why that is. I think every phone has one glaring deficiency, and other phones are so much stronger in that area whereas previously the differences in strengths and weaknesses were less pronounced.

That can be due to a quest for differentiation by the phone maker. Case in point, the G3 display.

Anandtech's review should be interesting. If it is the same conclusions as Arstechnica, time for heavier users to move on. The other reviews appeared to weight too much with video playback. The wicked mix for the G3 is gpu and display. Video barely leverages GPU function.

Looking forward to seeing if anybody down scales to 1080p and see how it behaves with the G3. I think I will ask the XDA thread. Catch still is the device is still powering all the pixels. Downscaling would help with the GPU load and some of the heat, so still should help with battery life.

Well said.

FUD is is being distributed for the device nobody here even owns yet.

But here is an Amazon review from the real user. Look what he says about the battery life.

And ironically, there are people that do not own the device telling people that do own the device they are basically wrong about reporting battery life is not good. So there you go ;)

Test for yourself and if happy- that is what matters.

I'm in a holding pattern until we can confirm or deny the presence of an 805 LG phone which may or may not be for sale in the US. Something seems amiss with all this. Especially a July availability.

Battery life is not even an issue for me.
I get the spare and use it, as I did for all my phones.

Except Nexus 4/5 and G2, for the obvious reason :D

That's why I use my F6 now. That's why I sold my G2.
That's why my Z Ultra will be ebayed soon.

I mostly agree with this. I'm more concerned with a dim screen that gets even dimmer when hot, which sounds like it will happen a lot.

That's a concern for me too, and the main one. That's the only thing which "might" prevent me from getting one. But I'll wait for more reports on this.

In general I am quite happy with my F6/x920 combination.

But a chance to have one device for everything..priceless..for everything else I use my Arrival Mastercard :D

Edit: argh, I'm gonna get one from T-mo anyway. I too have my 14 days window. :D

Evidently, I'm the only one who believes that the Korean article I linked last week is real, where this thing was confirmed and explained directly by LG - no tipsters and mysterious further confirmation required.

Android makers have often upheld a history of two major releases per year.

They've all seen each other's round one for this year.

The new iPhone is coming early fall.

Samsung, HTC, and LG need to respond to that. A five or six months old model come Xmas going up against the newer iDevices is not what anyone would call smart planning.

US availability is and will be dictated by our wonderful carriers.

Put that together with your dart board and you'll get when. :)

EM, how are you liking the M8 thus far? I have the M7 and the M8 is always lurking as an impulse buy for if/when the G3 ultimately disappoints me.

I'm worried about the in call volume, camera, and one of my kids dropping it forcing me to kill them.

I'm intrigued by your future thinking and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

The 805 model needs a 50 MP camera to not suck out loud.

Happy to see that Elvis did not leave the building after the famous M8 purchase :D

In other news:

It's been confirmed by email to the winners of T-Mo contest that G3 T-Mo will cost $650.

I'm with you that LG has already planned the phone with 805, it's real.

And as far as the camera, yea. I tell you this, I'll not be surprised to see 30mp cameras and 4Gb+ RAMs as those would bottlenecks to the new SoC's :).

You may recall that I left when I made my HTC decision weeks ago and came back just to hang and enjoy the company. :)

I'm getting great reception and love the speakers, have already modded it 8 ways from Tuesday so I'm pretty happy. And I was able to cheap out and that was important. :D

Just my personal tradeoffs for what the G3 offers, yeah? It's always a compromise from where I stand. :)

Surprised about that contest value. In the past those were just for tax purposes and not the actual retail.

yeah, I remember this. Was hoping that you would change your mind and wait for G3 :)

Yeah, getting M8 basically free is nice.

I, on the other hand, got money to burn by not going to watch Barcelona - Atletico, $750 for 2 tickets. And am I glad I didn't go! :D Barcelona did not win.

How about M8 camera/cam?

It seems to be meeting my needs perfectly.

Wish the camera had OIS, but it has oh well instead. :D

It's definitely slippery and definitely needs a case.

I have the Harman Kardon firmware flashed and that's really awesome.

Reception is outstanding and I haven't been able to drive it hard yet even with all four cores above 2 GHz. Plenty of ram.

I'm happy - it meets *my* needs. :)
