If those are the final specs for all, it will pretty much depend on the price for me.
Over $600, I am out and keep my Sony Ultra Z.
$600 or under, I am in.

Your Z would be an upgrade for me.

I already have 16 GB + 64 GB SD card and while it's now dated, I'm still happy as a clam with my LTEvo (Sprint HTC One X variant).

I could pick up a G2 probably for free with a contract extension and probably be as happy.

I'm finding myself capitulating bit by bit. First the size. Then maybe the bootloader. Now maybe the storage.

It's getting really easy for me to wait and compare to the M8 Prime if I'm going to spend money. :D :p

sorry early, rough day all around, I didn't see it. Onto the M8 prime for me.

can someone tell me what the difference is between this phone and the s5? Obviously screen and battery. Other than that, it's all software, pretty much? Shock. Meh. Bubble burst. The bomb turned out to be a dud?

Don't give up yet.

Just wait till tomorrow.

They still might have a surprise?

My real-life initials are "LG".
Guess I have no choice :D

Had G2 had microSD slot, I would not sell it.

Instead of the promised Maserati we are facing regular Lexus.:(

Question: why bother with all this hype when it was going to be pretty much just the same as all the other flagships? Marketing. Meh.

Tbh I don't care about a removable battery anymore. Holding power button is easier. Only benefit I can see is the replacement option way down the road but I no longer own phones that long. I was in favor of the sdcard but I've viewed that as a wildcard since the very first rumor so I won't be shocked either way.

In my opinion, these are the biggest strengths of the G3 over the S5:

  • Optical image stabilization for the camera, including during 4K video recording (S5 has zero 4K stabilization -- 1080p only). If you actually want to shoot decent 4K video (which is actually beneficial even if you downscale to 1080p -- see some examples, a lot more detail is retained) you need stabilization. Unstabilized video even with fairly steady hands is not very enjoyable for anyone. And of course, for low light stills, the OIS is very helpful.
  • Not Samsung/TouchWiz. This would be less of an issue with an unlocked bootloader, but with the S5 it's looking like you're stuck with TouchWiz and the performance issues that many complain about. By no means is it a slow phone but it's not as fast as it could be if you compare responsiveness and multitasking with say the One M8.
  • Perhaps a greater likelihood of being rootable. It's looking more and more unlikely that even root will be achieved on the S5, and unfortunately this strikes out root-only apps like Titanium Backup or the ability to take advantage of the Xposed framework
  • Much more attractive phone. I don't mind the S4 at all, but the S5 with thicker bezels, thicker chrome trim, and bizarre back-cover makes it by far the worst looking phone of this generation or even several previous ones. This isn't something that's usually a priority of mine, but the S5 is just too much of an outlier.
  • No USB port cover. This will almost certainly mean less water resistance, but most flagship models have a degree of water resistance even without the flap and whether or not they advertise it (I saw an interesting video testing this). I've never had an issue with water and phones so for my purposes having a flap is just a slight annoyance.
  • Knock Code / Knock On. Very convenient
  • Fewer unnecessary things tacked on that I'm not going to use (heart rate sensor, fingerprint scanner that seems to have questionable reliability)
Here are what I view as the S5's strengths by comparison (and a few more could be added depending on how reviews find the G3):

  • 2x2 WiFi. This is the ONLY phone on the planet that I'm aware of that has 2 WiFi antennas. This improves maximum throughput (theoretically by a factor of 2) and reception. As someone who uses WiFi way more than cellular data, this is actually a nice feature, especially since I may be getting a nice 802.11ac router soon. This is something that gets zero attention, but given how ubiquitous WiFi use is I feel should get more.
  • USB 3.0
  • Slightly smaller size (of course you're getting a 0.4" smaller screen as well, so it's a matter of preference)
The rest of the balance sheet is pretty equal: hardware specs, microSD, removable battery, etc. The removable battery in both is really nice for being able to keep spare batteries in your bag just in case you find yourself low. If you're running low you can almost instantly bring your phone back up to 100%. This is preferable to an external battery charger because you don't have to keep your device tethered up to something while it's charging. You're right back to your slim form factor and nothing additional weighing your pocket down (assuming you have a bag to stash a battery, or, an external battery is slimmer than most external chargers). I would be looking at the G2 even closer if it wasn't for this. As it is, clearly the G2 and G3 are awfully similar.

I'll be waiting for reviews and looking closest at

  • Battery life
  • Screen quality (color temperature, color accuracy, outdoor visibility -- these are all way more important than Quad HD)
  • Camera image quality
  • Hopefully some sense of whether root will be achievable in a reasonable period of time, unlike the S5. I'm 100% expecting the bootloader to be locked like the G2 (with no Loki workaround)

I googled lg-G3 let down. There were several hits. Wait till tomorrow. There'll be more. What.were.they.thinking?

What happened? Wasn't 3gb confirmed? Now its 2gb? What's LG doing? I'm glad the event is tomorrow so all speculation can end already.

.

all the specs were outed by a Dutch retailer. They surely surprised the neck out of me.
