LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

So we're clear - you're putting up 75 quatloos to my 150 that there will be two RAM specs, 3 or 2 GB depending on region, and storage is not in the bet?

So marked. :)

No. I bet you 1000 quatloos to zero on the internal storage. And...10 widgetinos on the RAM. Here's hoping "Vinny" doesn't show up to recoup the latter.

I'm not ready to say that 2 GB ram is a bad thing - unless any G2 owners have horror stories squeaking by on that amount.

I'm only willing to say it might be, and the wheel is spinning.

2GB RAM w/the T-Mobile G2 was plenty fine, smooth as a Barbie

Btw - don't just think that this is all about some Dutch website.

LG's own UK website listed it as 2 GB + 16 GB + SD card.

http://m.gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/n...ased-in-videos-specs-listed-on-uk-site-530889

The article speculates that based on earlier leaks there will be a basic and a premium model.

Then again, they also think that their premium model will come in metal. ("Hello, can you hear me now? Good morning, radio waves calling London. Knock knock. You who, come in please. Hello?")

The joys of negotiating reality.

Unless, LG has been become incredibly clever, it's 3/32 and the UK leak on their own site is a clever ploy to get everyone excited when it's not the 2/16 they say. Factor in the 2 TB SD card claim from the same deep thinkers.

:D

Don't shoot me, I'm just the piano player. :)

This actually looks like a pretty good phone to me. My ATT contract on my 1st gen NOTE will end this June 12 and 'ON' June 12 I will/should have a new phone in my old hands :)

After looking around some I really liked the 'HTC One M8' but the front facing camera with its 1 meg more then the rear facing camera is a major turn off for me although
the rest of it was really good.

By todays standards I am not a power user like many of you are here but I am a hard-core gamer as I have built many of my systems and IMHO nothing compares to PC gaming plus I have some nice tablets to game on when I am out of the house :)

I know that there is not one perfect cell phone but it seems that most of todays higher end cells kick my 1st gen NOTEs a$$. and btw, could someone explain to me why HTC would make their rear camera only 4 megs????????

Noise reduction. The pixels are not the same, they're bigger.

Visit our One M8 forum, there's a photo thread near the top.

The first part of the thread is prerelease where the megapixel junkies battled it out with the light lovers.

The second part of the thread is after release where owners posted their own photos - and they're amazing.

The megapixel junkies left for other threads and continue to quote blog references that agree with their world view - not the outstanding pictures from actual owners.

I'm sure we've all seen disappointing pictures from high number megapixel phones - I've owned one, I bet a lot here have.

Remember - the sharpest, clearest 1080p TV you've ever seen is 2 megapixels. And the picture has been enlarged a LOT.

Remember that the next time someone tells you that you can't get a decent picture, crop it and enlarge it unless you have a bazillion pixels - because you've already seen that's not true with your own eyes.

Not all pixels are created equally, the number of how many means nothing - only results.

PS - I have a breathtaking picture of one of my grandsons in one of our threads here. Everyone loves it. It's 310 kilo pixels.

Good data point. Two actually. :D

On the first one, if it succeeds with 2, it's that much more power for the screen.

No multitasking issues? You'd go back to previous apps without them reloading?

Yessir, the G2 & (& FLEX) was/is very similar to the NOTE 3's behavior, would keep right at 15 apps right where you left 'em.

Both the M7 & M8 keep about 9 apps open,which is plenty,especially w/the M8,ABSOLUTELY 100% lag-free,whether 1 or 9 apps open.

Only thing that hasn't been leaked is official release date. Some accessories listed for pre-order have a 6/30 release date. Considering the amount of leaks, I am hoping it'll be released soon after announcement tomorrow.

For unlocked and international.

US carrier models usually only get carrier announcements for release dates, for obvious reasons we all know.

I hate people who start blogging about the next phone before the current one is even out. Now, I'm that person! My G2 has 32 GB and great battery life. I am not going backwards to 16 GB. The removable battery and Micro SD are nice, but I have never even gotten down to under 20% battery life and I currently have 20 GB available.

If the G3 does come with 16/2 and the 801 then I am definitely waiting for the G3 upgrade when they drop in the 805 ( or skip it completely). Blame it all on my G2.

Yep, and even to this late hour before pre launch, I expect most carriers to play the margin game (because they can) and carry the 16/2. Including Verizon. Why bother with "pesky" extra SKUs that help differentiate cost when you can offer ONE model at a premium price (VZW)? This is a reason they are annoyed at Apple. All them "pesky" SKUs to deal with. If VZW had their way, they would only sell the 16GB model at the 32GB price and NO 64GB model. They leverage their coverage map.

Added:

Please note the S5 has 32B and 64GB models, but not one carrier in the US or any other country outside of Asian regions even bothered. Why stop now?

Hmm, some interesting wrinkles in the last 24 hours. 5.5 hours until the truth is revealed... Amazing how quickly this went from must have device of the year to meh update for so many of you. What is this, an iPhone launch?

iPhone launch??!

And I say that because maybe you started the fire!

Srsly though, Android is all about choice.

And that's what we have - choices. :) ;)

Nope, but an erosion and end of interest due to the higher spec leaks being apparently for the usual Asian (better specs than other regions) model:

Official LG G3 specs and information leaked ahead of launch

My "faith" in carriers wanting to $crew customers over apparently remains intact. Looks like a 16/2 for all. Carriers say: Eat your cake!

LG is making a mistake, since not enough to differentiate. This will sell, but not in the levels LG might hope.

First the 805 is bunked
Then the 32/3

32GB S4, looks like we are going the distance!

Added:

BTW, the LG G3 build up and subsequent deflation has to be the biggest let down of any device I recall. As far as the 16GB models, I think the OEs and carriers STILL do not get that SD cards do not afford more app space and Kitkat killed most function. Or maybe they do not care- I think the latter.

Added 2:

@EarlyMon, this is a rare time I disagree. Android is becoming less about choice since carriers are offering the same cookie cutter model options. 16GB models with 10GB for apps and card killing Kitkat does not cut it anyway sliced. Factor Google's progressive creeping desire along with carriers to lock devices down is the antithesis of choice IMO. What is so hard in offering a model of the S5, G3, etc- with 32GB internal? That is rhetorical, since they (VZW) do not in order to charge MORE for the 16GB model during the launch/ sales push window.

Apple is more about choice from this relative regard and that REALLY sucks. Must admit though, I luv my 128GB iPad Air.

Even with the KitKat SD card changes, I think a lot of people are bound to love it.

8 GB is bound to be enough for apps for most non-gaming people, and music and photos can still go to the SD card, you just have to pick up some new habits for managing things.

I'm really curious about this laser focus for the camera. Now that's an innovation.

Laser focus, QHD, OIS for video, 2TB :D microSD support..

Gimme the price, LG.

Option one = app juggle
Option two = Don't download any new apps

From a macro econ standpoint, neither is a good propellant for the Google app eco system and constrains revenue for devs. A fair analogy is the app shopping mall is expanding, but the storage parking lot is staying the same size.

No customer perspective excuse not to offer 32GB as an option. Enjoy your 16GB, but I should not have to change my habits to fit that. You are right though in that there is a choice also to not buy it :)

You're into games?

This is not the Android you're looking for, not just because of storage.

Meanwhile, Droid Life has this from an LG leak, along with shots of some of the software.

And this shows wireless charging without the peek-a-boo case -

What was the first phone with the most metal on the back? Wasn't it an HTC Windows phone?

I still don't get how they're going to do RF or wireless charging through metal.

Unless metallic design means what many of us have believed so far - metal-looking plastic. :D

Yep, me likes games on my phones :) I treat it as an all in one when away from home. Unless the touch display is poor, it should be fine for games.

Shame on the storage space... When do you have to pay for losing the bet? ;)
