LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

I'm not ready to say that 2 GB ram is a bad thing - unless any G2 owners have horror stories squeaking by on that amount.

I meant to mention this last night but time was running short. My current free memory = 159 MB. It eeks below 100 MB occasionally.

Also, the rom on the G2 is huge. 3.43 GB.

So on a 32 GB G2, the actual internal storage is 25.8 GB. At this time, I have 17.9 GB free.

I am not a gamer, I don't store music on this device, and I don't take much in the way of pics. I do have one nandroid backup which is significant.

No serious message I'm trying to convey here necessarily. But I think the 3 GB memory would be a very worthwhile upgrade.

Yep, me likes games on my phones :) I treat it as an all in one when away from home.

Shame on the storage space... When do you have to pay for losing the bet? ;)

My bet has been one model, 2/16. (I tried to do RAM only but iowabowtech insisted.)

If you took a piece of the action, accounts are being settled after the event.

Last chance to buy back bets at 50%...

PS - the expected FPS for this is low, surprised that's not bothering you.

Did I bet alongside with you? I think I did :D

Yeah, it is not a gamer phone. It is a multimedia phone. For me :p

I keep all my music and most of my photos on my phone. That's why I was forced to sell G2 when I saw 2GB left out of 32. Now, with 2TB microSD I should be fine :D

I would gladly trade the metallic back and the removable battery for 3/32. Sadly, I don't think they'll make that choice available....

In fact, I'd prefer a non-removable 3300mAh to a removable 3000mAh battery.

I have 4 gold pressed latinum bars that I will offer for anyone who can confirm the updated G3 with 32GB, 3 Gigs of Ram and an 805 processor.

The 800/801 are smooth with Android games. GPU is fine in that regard. Game emulators which are about 98% CPU emulated- even 3D is. Same on PC versions and hence the CPU thirst. The S600 is okay, so the 801 should be a tad better. The A7 is the sweet spot for gaming. Fast CPU/GPU and good battery life. Curse Apple and their proprietary ways! ;)

If the G3 32GB, I would probably get it, since it also has an FM radio. Like my emulators, me luvs retro :) I hate the the storage issue though. Next device needs 32GB and micro sd.

Another device that was so close, yet so far.....

QHD GPU tests are saying otherwise but ok.

Even running at 1440x2560?

My "faith" in carriers wanting to $crew customers over apparently remains intact. Looks like a 16/2 for all. Carriers say: Eat your cake!

LG is making a mistake, since not enough to differentiate. This will sell, but not in the levels LG might hope.
LG made no mistake. Remember, with the way things work at the major carriers, you are not LG's customer, Verizon is. Thus, regardless of what you want, Verizon dictates what you can get. If Verizon sees the value in giving you a 3/32GB device, it will be on their shelves. But giving you a better phone subsidized never means more profit for them, so when they signed the contract with LG for the G3, it was for the configuration that was best for them. So as far as LG is concerned, giving Verizon what they asked for vs. what the end user really wanted was not a mistake. "The customer [Verizon] is always right."

As for the G3 not having the SD805, that was likely a matter of timing and availability.

I was with Big Red from before they were Verizon until I came to Cambodia in 2009. I've discovered (even while in the US) that there is life after Verizon, and it's pretty good. I will never become the minion of a major carrier again.

QHD GPU tests are saying otherwise but ok.

All depends on the scaling from gpu to display. If trying to drive every pixel, the gpu can choke. The A7 as example pushes a high res display, but scales as needed and uses the native res of the app to guide. Even high res is handled well, but comes at a battery, heat price.

The 5420 in the Note 2014 also does a good job of native scaling, but Touch Wiz is so inefficient it gives a lag in UI, but not games or media. This again is mainly due to the IMO awful UI. I use Nova on all my devices.

I use Anandtech for my performance reviews.

I am not aware of the 800/801 having issues on higher res tablet displays, but if games are trying to push every pixel when virtually no Android game is drawn at that native res- that is pure silly app config/ parameter header programming. A complete waste of resources.

Dang it! I think I'm going to miss the live event due to a lunch date. Oh well, shouldn't be too hard to catch up shortly after. :)

Good thought. Here is an AnandTech review of the Galaxy Tab 8.4, a WQXGA (1600x2560) device powered by the "homely" SD800.

Here is a taste of how it fared vs. the Galaxy S5 with the SD801 and 1080P native resolution:

How refreshing, you're not gonna be THAT GUY & be distracted, constantly glancing @ your phone, & choose to be engaged/uninterrupted during your lunch date. :thumb:

Something tells me this thread will read like the Cliffsnotes version of the event. Shouldn't take long to get to the bottom of things. :D
