LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

I'm not interested in this phone because it's simpler (it's not) or offers better features (it kinda doesn't) than a Samsung phone. If I wanted "cleaner" and "lighter" then I'd get an HTC, Apple, or Nokia handset ..

... Not interested in Selfie Cameras...

hmm, how come I never post on the boards of Apple, Samsung or Nokia to say that their phones suck and I am not interested in their sucky phones?

Guess I have to learn a few things :D

Maybe you haven't found a post to butcher into pieces and make an odd quote to drive the point home? (Quite Rude, IMO).

My point was that I don't care if LG thinks their phone is simpler or cleaner. There are always ways to clean up an Android phone if you think it's too "dirty" or complicated, and the average joe consumers who probably care about that certainly weren't watching that in the middle of the work day and likely have much more important things to spend their time watching at any other time.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 presentation wasn't bad if you have any appreciation for the arts, but most techie-types don't.

It looks like I'm going to have to decide between the G2 and G3.

A G2 running a G3 ROM would be awfully similar and a good deal cheaper, not to mention some may prefer the slightly slimmer profile. As it is, with all the G2 development, there's a lot that brings the G2 and G3 closer together. For example, the G2 has a really good camera mod that essentially brings it up to the G Pro 2 (and probably G3 since they have the same sensor) quality.

Hopefully the G3 will be on display in stores sometime soon so I can compare them head to head. If the G2 had a removable battery I'd lean more towards it, so that may be one of the main deciding points.

Edit: If only they updated the sensor to the IMX214... that would've made my decision much easier.

Edit 2: Upon further investigation, it looks like there's not that much difference between the IMX214 and IMX135 (comparing the Find 7a vs the G Pro 2). It's not that surprising given that the sensor size is the same (1/3.06"). Here's one http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=3&idPhone1=6215&idPhone2=6052&idPhone3=3621

It's not butchering, it's called breaking a multiple point post into pieces and responding to each in turn.

It's been common on forums for years and is considered polite, not rude.

How ironic.

WifelyMon owns an art gallery, being a rather well-known artist herself.

She said only tech monkeys could have come up with something that artless.

That's why we say, your mileage may vary. ;) :)

All further sniping is officially ended and below this line -

LG G3 game on, cheers! :)

Good for folks on those carriers, but Verizon will care less since they leverage their coverage map. I have been told directly they skimp on high end specs because they can. Why offer a 32GB when they can sell the 16GB for the same price? Not many leave due to a device, but DO due to coverage in the area. Sadly, I travel and no carrier touches Verizon. I also have two lines of unlimited data I will not give up.

I still bet on the black cloud over Verizon when it comes to customer consideration. Until the black cloud goes away, bet on black! ;)

I travel a lot and haven't seen Verizon to be much better than AT&T for me.

The prices are almost the same though, so there isn't much lost or gained each way. You just go with the one best for you.

Those two really are in a formidable position these days.

The positive though for ATT customers that want this device- the 3/32 is "apparently confirmed"... Is that an oxymoron?

Verizon has me really good due to unlimited data. I use it.

Some good camera samples compared to other flagships: First LG G3 camera samples get compared with the Galaxy S5, One M8, Note 3, and iPhone 5s

Honestly these results actually look quite good; we may be seeing the OIS come into play where you have less than ideal lighting. Once the shutter speed starts to drop down below 1/30s, the OIS becomes real handy. For videos too, it's a game changer. There's almost no point in shooting 4k handheld on any other phone due to the lack of stabilization (unless for some reason you walk around with a tripod for your phone).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping that this is some evidence LG has improved their imaging software -- getting the exposure, contrast, saturation, and white balance down is what really defines the biggest differences between flagship smartphone cameras these days. Sometime in the (hopefully) not too distant future we'll have RAW support from Android and some of that won't become as critical.

FWIW,there are FLEX ROMS available,so,as you mentioned,a G3 ROM on the G2 is almost a certainty.

【ROM-0129 update】【Flex Rom v1.5】LG G Flex Rom For G2 !(D802/D801/D800/F320) - xda-developers

Just something to throw on the G2 should you pick one up before the G3 & subsequent ROMS are available.

All I would like to know is if Verizon will buck their greedy trend and offer the 3/32 version. LG stated both are on offer to their retail partners. Samsung did not state this and seem content pushing their very bloated and very locked down 16GB S5.

FM radio and 3/32 might mean Samsung has lost a phone customer. FM radio on phones is cool :) I miss that on the Ngage and Incredible. Good times.

Don't forget to add the universal IR remote w/learning capabilities :)

rush, you sound downright excited! ;)

FM radio would be nice, I did use it on my Omnia and incredible, but I switched to streaming with the intro of LTE on Verizon.

My biggest concern is the signal strength. Unlike most, I was actually cheering for plastic, as it usually means better signal strength. THe HTC One M8 is an awesome phone, and would have been an automatic for an HTC lover such as myself, but its signal is absolutely abysmal. The G2 can hold a 4G signal at my desk, so I am somewhat hopeful I will be good. But if not, at least I can use the FM radio to get some tunes when I want them.

There's one thing the VZW G3 has going for it that the S5 does not and I'm optimistically, yet guardedly, hanging my hat on it...precedent.

The VZW G2 had 32 GB, so I do not think its the most likely scenario to downgrade the new flagship.

As for the Samsung, the SG2, SG3, SG4 all had 16 GB onboard storage (per a quick web search, if i'm wrong on that, somebody please correct). So there was never a precedent that would make people feel like they were being downgraded. Maybe not upgraded to where they would prefer, sure. But not downgraded.

That's my theory on why VZW will offer the 32 GB model in the G3.

Wildcard:
They foolishly opt for the 16 GB model due to the addition of the sd slot which was not present on the G2. I'd rather not ponder that scenario too much right now as it'd be an instant deal killer for me. The size of the newest stock roms are not conducive to 16 GB storage size imo.

I thought it would dwarf the G2, but it actually doesn't look that much bigger. And the Note 3 (which I own and still love), looks like it dwarfs the G3!

As much as I enjoy the Note 3 and am obsessed with the S-pen, there are times that I wish the overall physical dimensions were slightly smaller.

Check out this video comparison, so you can see what I'm referring to:

I have to say, I just checked out the DL compare videos, and it is I feel the best looking phone there. I like the changes they made to the back compared to the G2. The Nexus 5 is a very close second, but is not an option for Verizon. And while big, its not a huge step up from my DNA.
