Root LG Volt Stock ZV5 Rooted Rom - Odex & Deodex

I have to say I have always had a poor Wi-Fi experience even when signal is powerful. It tends to lag no matter what. My Wi-Fi router isn't the problem. ISP is 25mbps down. It seems like maybe a poor kernel? It doesn't matter what rom I have used either. I don't know, but I pray for a solution some day.

no problem with WiFi here, I use wifi at work all the time and it works great for me. Wonder if you have a screwy wifi radio

Still working here...default settings, except for SSID and password.
Just an update - I re-installed the rom and instead of restoring this wifi tether app (from Titanium backup) I did a clean install of it. Viola. It's working and just something for me to remember. It's not always best to use the 'easy' button. ;) I like titanium backup but it's not always a good idea to install apps using it. It's easier but not the best. :) I guess I will just have to install then restore the 'data' from titanium.

Thank you - it's so nice being able to get others thoughts on this stuff. :)

Thanks kwnott and all the other contributors for all their time and hard work. I was able to flash the Deodexed with no issues. Everything is running great so far with 2.78gb left over....space is tight. Can anyone that has installed the Odexed Debloated version tell me what the left over Storage space is. I want to try it but first I want to see if there is a big difference in available storage. Thanks again....

There won't be much difference in space other than what debloating has been done, which you can do yourself.
Here's a guide of what can be removed.

Yeah size wise they are pretty close to the same. In the odexed version you have an apk and and odex file for each app. When you deodex you just combing the 2 files into the apk. It may be a bit smaller but not by much. Also the rom installs into the system partition so no matter what size it is, it won't affect your useable storage space any as the system and data partition are separate.

That's an important point for everyone to understand. Most of the "debloating" involves removing unneeded files from the system partition. That partition is fixed size, so removing bloat just leaves more space available in that partition. User files are stored in a different partition which is also fixed size. The result is that debloating (i.e. removing system files) doesn't directly make more storage space available to the user.

With that said, removing bloat does indirectly increase the usable storage space. It is possible to move selected apps from the user partition to the system partition to utilize the space that has been freed up by debloating. This then frees up space on the user partition. To convert apps from user apps to system apps (i.e. to move them to the system partition), you can use a tool like System Application Manager, Titanium backup, Link2sd, etc.

I have used this one with good results, and it's small and free. It also allows you to freeze or uninstall system apps.

Also, to be clear, debloating can directly free up some RAM by eliminating unneeded background processes. That benefit is independent of the discussion above which is talking about storage space in Flash memory.

I tried my best, but this is not working for me. I replaced the boot, radio, and recovery images in my Minimal ADB and Fastboot location and flashed them to the phone. But my phone is still in ZV4. The phone is rooted, fastboot is unlocked, and I applied this flash via fastboot. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for all the Helpful info on Deodexed vs. Odexed Debloated versions. It cleared up a lot of my questions. I guess I will stick with Deodexed version until a custom Rom is released.

Why don't you just download the ROM and install it via TWRP?

*the first boot will take longer as dalvik-cache is being rebuilt.

**After rebooting you may not have a data connection. You can reset the connection by updating the profile and prl or by reactivating the phone by opening dialer and dialing ##873283#.
Kwiknot, I have been running the deodexed rom for quite a few days now with good results. I have found that apps I try to open from Lg's Q-slide crash, all except the calculator and calendar. The rest will open normally from the app drawer. And the multi photo wallpaper doesn't work. I originally installed with cwm and went ahead and reinstalled the rom after switching to twrp... any feedback would be appreciated. Are you still planning an Odex-full version?

Did you do a clean install?

Did you do a clean install?
I did the downgrade to zv3, then towelroot, then installed flashify, then flashify to install cwm, then recovery to install zv5 deodexed (first one), then reinstall SU, then wifi fix 2. Rebooted and all apps will run except from qslide and the multi photo wallpaper will not load selected pics... what might i have missed? I also went back and changed to twrp recovery and repeated all steps... what is the referred clean install?

I should clarify that of all the apps in the qslide calendar and calculator open and function fine... none of the others will open from the qslide shortcut.

I'll look into it as soon as I can. Been working overtime plus remodeling my kitchen so times a bit slim.
I hope I did not come across as pushy or ungrateful. The perks afforded by your work are greatly appreciated, I lack confidence in my application of these mods so I put this out there in case I had somehow misapplied or forgotten to do something... again thanks for all your efforts.

I am having an issue. I downgraded to zv3 then to zv4 no problems. Upgraded to zv5 odex seemed fine until i tryed to make a call. No matter how many bars i have when i dial all bars disappear and phone call never connects.

I have done this same process other than the downgrade to another phone which does not have this issue.

I have tried flashing the radio again. And now tried the deodex version just incase. No improvement.

Did you try updating the user profile and prl?

They weren't system apps but preload apps that got installed as regular apps at first boot. I can upload them and post links If you like. Then you'll just have to download them and install as a regular app. Give me a bit and I'll try to do it.

Any chance you can post the preload apps soon?
Thanks in advance.

Yes i have done ##873283# several times as well as manually from settings.

Is it possible to reflash zv4 radio to see if it works?
