Root LG Volt Stock ZV5 Rooted Rom - Odex & Deodex

2 questions.

1. Is their any difference in the RAM usage between the odexed and deodexed version? (hypothetically lets say it is a clean install of both on the same phone at different times.)

EDIT: I know that running apps affect RAM, but could you educate me on what else uses up the available RAM. 800 and something megabytes of RAM goes quickly for me and would like to know how to manage my RAM better.

2. Do I flash the radio immediately after I install ZV5, or do I reboot recovery, or do I reboot the phone and make sure everything works (no rapid FCs) then boot into recovery again and flash it, or does it matter at all when I flash it?

Thanks in advance!!!

Question 2 first... It shouldn't hurt to flash them one right after the other. When I just flashed my wife's Volt I flashed the rom, rebooted and once rom settled I rebooted and flashed Radio. So either way should be fine.

As far as memory. I haven't read anything that says there's any difference in memory usage between odex and deodex roms.

A portion of Ram is set aside for system usage for system level apps, display, radio , etc. The rest is available for apps.

Unlike your computer which likes to have as much free ram as possible, Android is designed to fill up ram as fast as possible. In Android unused ram is wasted ram. Android is designed to very effectively manage memory usage. Some people swear by task killer apps but because of experience and what I've read in the past, I have never used any type of app like that.

Here's an article on Android Ram

Link back up for Deodexed rom. Integrated wifi fix and fixed updater-script issue to correct dalvik wipe.
Hi kwknott, I have been using the first deodexed rom with the wifi fix2 and the radio flashed and have not had any problems... would you recommend I flash the new ROM? Is it likely there may be a problem later due to the dalvik wipe issue?

Yes, thanks again! Did a clean install last night, seems really smooth. I've had my screen timeout set to 15 min, on full brightness all day... The battery life seems even better, not that it needed any improvement.

So, here's a question.. Throughout all the software versions and roms, odexed and deodexed, bloated and debloated, with and without xposed installed, I have experienced this issue: Hit the home button, and you get the home launcher acting as if it is being loaded for the first time. It couldn't be more than a minute, but when you're in a rush, it seems like forever. Usually when it happens, the recents panel pulls up just fine.. And hopefully whatever I'm trying to access is in my recents.
Otherwise, I have to wait on all the icons and stuff to load. Does anyone else experience this? I've used next launcher on way crappier phones, and never experienced this. (This is not a launcher I normally use, or recommend.. Just an example. I actually love our Stock launcher.) I can't pinpoint what is causing it... I can have multiple apps running, along with music playing, hit home, and the home screen will pop right up. Then I've also had it hang up with only the messaging app open after a fresh boot. So it seems completely random.
Obviously, this isn't an issue.. It's like 30 extra seconds out of my day, each time it happens. I just finally decided to mention it since I accidentally took my vyvanse twice this morning.

You're running out of memory. If you're not using the stock launcher, look in the preferences for a keep in memory setting, probably in advanced settings. That will make it the last, or close to last thing to get dumped when the system needs to make room.

Why would it not have enough memory for the stock launcher? I've never even installed a 3rd party launcher on this phone, because I was so happy with the stock one. I just used Next as an example because it seems to be a resource hog.
I do know the setting you are referring to.. I've seen it in other launchers, and have had to use it.. But not since my Zte warp 4g.

It's not that it doesn't have enough memory, per se, it's that as you use the phone and memory is consumed, the system has to dump stuff out to make room for current processes. That's just how it works. It tries to dump the oldest, least important stuff first, so the longer you are out of the launcher, the more probable it becomes that it will get dumped. It all depends on what else is in memory at the time and what has the highest priority.

More on topic, I'm having trouble downloading the new ROM. I hit the link and it starts a download named <Untitled> and never actually downloads anything. This is on my phone, haven't tried on the computer.

EDIT: downloading fine on computer

Thanks for the quick replies, man! That makes perfect sense.. which is why I never brought it up. I guess I just wanted confirmation that this is normal for everyone else.

Even with my launcher set to keep in memory it still gets bumped once in a while. Far less than when it wasn't though... It was like almost every time.

Did you install the radio? Use the ##72786# dialer code to reactivate.
yeah i have done all that. i can recieve and make textxs/calls but i cannot use any 3g or 4g. i cannot update PRL, profile or any of those options. i get a network error.

also, the ip address in 4g settings under Mobile Networks is blank

Did you remove any apps?

Also go to Settings,
Click More under Wireless Networks,
Click Mobile Networks,
Make sure box is checked beside Data Enablex

It is checked. I have factory reset, tried to reinstall the ROM, wipe cache/dalvik all to no avail. It stops at hands free activation.

I flashed the radio right after the rom

Haven't heard of anyone else having this issue. Possible you had a bad Download. I'd redownload the radio, reflash it and see if that fixes the issue. If not try redownloading the rom and reflash it.

In the meantime I'll see if i can find an explanation on my end. Can anyone else confirm any issues.

Sounds like the software update or lgatcmd apps are missing.

Hey kwknott, thought you might be interested in this...guide for deodexing for ART compatibility.

Also, something of interest, I am running ART, and I am using Xposed, even though that article says Xposed is not compatible with ART.

Uh...scratch that...I just looked and it's on Dalvik. O.o I swear to god it was on ART for a few days. Just tried to switch again and it refused.
