Component and Generic installers sometime install the newest versions of the files into the 4.0 folder for some reason.

Check in C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\ and make sure there is a folder named "5.0" in there. There should already be folders named "1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0".

If there's no 5.0 folder, make one, then go into the 4.0 folder where the 5.0 files are probably hiding.

Copy and paste, NOT DRAG AND DROP, all these files from the 4.0 folder into the 5.0 folder:

CommandProcessor5.dll
LGNPST_BaseModel5.dll
LGNPST_BasicComControl5.dll
LGNPST_Command5.dll
LGNPST_DLManager5.dll
LGNPST_EFS5.dll
LGNPST_ERS5.dll
LGNPST_FLASH5.dll
LGNPST_Log5.dll
LGNPST_MemoryTransfer5.dll
LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_NVStorage5.dll
LGNPST_OneBinary5.dll
LGNPST_PortManager5.dll
LGNPST_Script5.dll
LGNPST_Security5.dll
LGNPST_UI5.dll
LGNPST_Utility5.dll
COMRegManager.exe
InstallComList_Root.txt

After you do that, open the InstallComList_Root.txt in the 5.0 folder with a text editor and delete all the text. Then copy and paste all of the following text into it:

C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\CommandProcessor5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_BaseModel5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_BasicComControl5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_Command5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_DLManager5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_EFS5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_ERS5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_FLASH5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_Log5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_MemoryTransfer5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_NVStorage5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_OneBinary5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_PortManager5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_Script5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_Security5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_UI5.dll
C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Components 5.0\LGNPST_Utility5.dll

Save the file with this new text in it and things should be fine after that.

Are src files visible before they get flashed some how on your file system?

Say they are packed up lg style. Well android recovery needs a update.zip or .img images to be able to flash it to the OS.

This updater/downgrader some how unpacks its source file into one of these formats to be able to flash it to Android.

The BIN file is the image file. It is not compressed. The SCR file is some script that can be read in a text editor. The PRL file is a small binary file. I am not sure what it is used for.

After flashing a log file that contains a partition table and some other information.

I have the files for 2.2 and 2.2.1 and the BINs are exactly the same size to the last byte.

okay so i got to the part where u have to drag and drop MS690.dll on top of the file Reggie.exe. but when i do it tells me that "execption occured" what do i have to do to do it right im using an hp laptop running on vista

and when i click the set up it tells me its "done... but you must put 'Reggie.exe' in your path, somewhere, for these new she;; commands to work!" what does this mean? im new to all of this android stuff so idk

It means nothing. Just drag and drop MS690.dll on top of Reggie.exe then continue on with the tutorial.

Also right click Reggie.exe and select Properties and set it to XP compatibility mode before you do this.

To start the update process you must enter the phones SPC code.

To get this code use CDMAWorkshop: cdmaworkshop.rar

Unpack the rar and then run "cdma workshop.exe" with your phone connected

Once it's loaded, look for the "COM Settings" and set this to "COM5" then click "Connect"

Your COM port may vary. Mine was on COM5, then I installed Windows 7 and now it's COM3. To check what COM port your phone is connected to, -->WITH YOUR PHONE PLUGGED IN<--, right click on the "Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Manage". Then click on "Device Manager". Double click on "Ports (COM & LPT)" Look for where it says "LGE Android Platform USB Serial Port" The "COM" shown there is the port you want to choose for CDMA Workshop to connect to your phone.

Then click on "Security" at the top. Where it says "SPC" select "LG Method" from the drop down menu then click "Read". The output is your SPC code. Write it down and when LGNPST asks you for it enter it.

I am getting a virus detection on the cdmaworkshop file.

File: CDMA_WORKSHOP_FULL_CRACKED.EXE
Detection: Generic.dx
Type: Trojan

Using McAfee 8.7.0i
Scanner 5400.1158
DAT 6239.0000

I got one too on Symantec Corporate, but I ignored it. I just assumed because it's a cracked file...

I doubt it is because it is cracked. Most cracked files do NOT set off my anti-virus.

OK, then I'll delete the AV exception I made, just in case. I used the files successfully to restore my phone. I have them saved on flash drive if I even need them again. The program doesn't need to stay on my wife's computer, intact. I'll let Symantec have its way. ;)

I used my wife's computer because I have x64 Win 7 on mine. Someone said you have to use XP compatibility. Forget that, I just used an actual XP machine -- my wife's.

Avast does not flag cdmaworkshop as a virus. Probably a false positive on both of the other anti-virus programs.

Well all I know is I use the one I posted and can guarantee it's not doing anything other than what it's supposed to do.

Well all I know is I use the one I posted and can guarantee it's not doing anything other than what it's supposed to do.

I don't know how you can guarantee that...

I found this...

MetroPCS_MSL_SPC_Code_Calculator.xls - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

And by using this next link to calculate the pESN from the MEID I got it to work...

CDG : Devices : ESN, MEID and EUIMID Calculator

So, I used the bottom link to find the pESN, then I put that into the xls file. It returned a working SPC code for MetroPCS.

Where it says "PRL file" click the folder icon and select the "3014.prl" file.

This method saved my phone. One thing I would add is after you return to stock with this PRL file you will have 3014. Current PRL from Metro is 3016 as of this date and more versions will come out.

So, after you restore you phone, first thing to do is to dial *228 and hit option #5 to update to the latest "roaming list".

First Android phone. Tried this. Didn't work, now my phone won't boot. It plays the metro sfx and then fails to load "Android" screen with no error. The almost black screen will shut off if I press power. If I press again, almost black screen comes back and buttons light up. That is the extent of its functionality right now.

How can I go about restoring my phone from this point?
Does this process wipe the phone? - Not a problem, but I had some images that I was going to try to recover from but wanted / needed (not sure) root permissions.
Cannot turn the phone off with power button. I took the battery out a couple times, started, held Power, Vol Down, Home. It beeps. Other combinations cause the phone to vibrate or beep in a different way, but nothing boots to a recovery option.
Phone no longer detected as mass storage, but LG Modem under device manager was still available.

I have seen "adb" mentioned several times. Not sure what it is.
So, does anybody have any ideas for a next step? Please advise.
