LGNPST Lab 1.2 (Better than my fix)

so if my phone wont boot past the lg screen, what can i do??my computer wont recognize the phone since its not booted??

First Android phone. Tried this. Didn't work, now my phone won't boot. It plays the metro sfx and then fails to load "Android" screen with no error. The almost black screen will shut off if I press power. If I press again, almost black screen comes back and buttons light up. That is the extent of its functionality right now....

Figured out phone actually does load something. Not sure what. It began playing some music that sounded like an OS X Leopard installation, but only in the bathroom. Since I left bathroom, it hasn't played music. I can turn it off if I hold power and press at random on blank screen -_-

That doesn't even make sense.

Try this and if it doesn't work I don't know what to tell you, other than you probably skipped a step somewhere and messed things up on you're own.

If you set everything up properly from the start then your phone should still be recognized by LGNPST. Make sure you have the proper drivers for the phone installed without the phone plugged in. While it's unplugged. Take the battery out to make sure the phone's off if it isn't already. Once you have the drivers installed. put the battery back in the phone but don't turn it on. Plug the phone in. It should at least bring up the charger icon on the screen. It may even install drivers that might not have installed properly the first time. Power on the phone and see if any other drivers install.

After that retry the LGNPST method or the other downgrader method.

This is the only resolution I can come up with. I've experienced things similar to what you're describing and have always been able to recover with one or the other method.

If you can't then you really have not follwed the directions properly and probably really screwed your phone up on your own. It's not my fault.

Andyo70, as you know I used your LGNPST method successfully to restore my phone. Again, thank you. But for the sake of the people who have questions, I have some questions/suggestions...

========
1) I used my wife's XP computer, instead of my Win 7 x64 computer, to ensure problem-free compatibility. Perhaps this software has problems with Win 7/Vista x64? If so, should they right click on the file and run in "XP compatibility" mode?

2) Also, I totally disabled anti-virus software during the process, just to make sure there was no interference. That's just habit with me. Since then, we DO know that some AV products flag this with a false positive. So, perhaps the instructions should note to temporarily disable AV?

3) And perhaps they should install the LG Optimus M USB driver on their computer, prior to starting this process? Here's the download link, straight from LG:
http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/Resources/LGUnitedMobileDriver_S497CA20_WHQL_ML_Ver_1.0.msi

=========

Just trying to think of reasons why it's not working for some people, besides the newbie/"idiot" reason. :p

If any of these ideas have merits, perhaps you could add them to your instructions?

How about avoid the whole antivirus issue from cdma workshop and use the links I posted to get the SPC code? Although that does assume that
your phone works well enough to be able to get to the screen to read the MEID. :)

this is my 4th attempt, and still a blank screen after update??i followed every step in there.there was already a folder for 5.0 so i didnt need to do any copy/paste...any ideas?

I got them to work now but when i try to run ether of LG Components Version 5.0.12.0 & LG Generics Version 5.0.10.0 i get this:
Error 1335. The cabinet file "data1.cab" required for this
installation is corrupt and cannot be used, this could
indicate a network error, an error reading CD-Rom, or a
problem with this package
i tryed to hit ignore but it wont go and retry doesn't work ether.

What Operating System are you running?

BTW....just installed fine on my system. Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Well everyone will have to wait a while before they're gonna get a crack at it again. Superbowl will be on and that ain't the time to be making video tutorials. Hang in there folks.

I followed your directions to the letter. I find that when I am new to something it is best to follow directions. And so of course I already had all the drivers I needed. It turns out the screen just wasn't working at all. It was still possible to interact with the phone, but without seeing what you are doing. But there were some small details that I think may have had some affect.
First, I had already tried z4root. Temp and permanent. I found out later that 2.2.1 was incompatible and happened upon this post.
Second, as soon as I began the LGNPST downgrade process (1%), my phone said "USB Unplugged, blah blah blah", so I followed directions and it continued and completed. The screen never came back on after that. I could still interact with everything as normal, but without a screen. LGNPST still read fine. Actually, I tried running LGNPST a couple more times, it failed a few, then change some options, run some more, nothing worked. Eventually it got to the point where LGNPST would crash at 15% consistently. When I restarted after a crash, it came into "Emergency" mode and so I copy/pasted/changed the .tot file to .bin and ran that. It completed. Upon doing that, I had restored LGNPST's ability to complete all other actions (100%). After this, the phone worked fine again, but without screen. I took it to Metro and told them it doesn't work, got a new one for $30, followed your instructions, here, and have a rooted Optimus M.

Don't sound so much like the parasites in Atlas Shrugged. You had your disclaimer. Of course it's not your fault that I followed your instructions and ended up with a jacked up phone. It's my fault because I do what I want. LGNPST has been a useful tool, and I'm glad I have it now, but if it is an option, absolutely do NOT use this method as it is fickle and unreliable. Maybe it's not your fault for not saying that to begin with, andyo, but you should link to your other downgrader post and tell people at the beginning "This LGNPST method is fickle, use this other method instead." And it is your fault, now, if you do not do that.

LGNPST has worked consistently countless numbers of times, for me that is, and for many others that have done it properly.

That's all I have to say on that matter, I've had just as many people complain that something went wrong with the 2nd method you linked to.

Personally, I used the LGNPST method and it restored my phone just fine.

BUT the main point is, Andyyo70 supplied BOTH these methods. It's not like he is saying "his" way works best. Because of the one you like, and the one he likes, BOTH are his -- just two different methods. :D

Where is the restore tool link at? I think i must've unplugged the phone too soon, it said 100% complete, but my phone was still booting up and i just need to restore it so i can do this over again.

Well no actually I did follow all of your instructions just perfect.

It was at 100% then on the LGNPST menu screen i clicked complete or w/e at the top there.

But my screen is just saying Android and flashing now so what the hell did I do lol.

Ok I am going to try this again very carefully ( after i did factory reset just now).

Ok , it looks like it worked now I have to get that ADB thing and figure that out, I will let u know how it goes thanks xo!

To configure adb just go to page which is very easy steps to follow How to Use Android ADB Command Line Tool | All About Web & Mobile Application Development

That is not the main point. I was the one making the point - that andyo70's other method is better. I know this because I used it on 2 phones with 100% success. This method had a 50% success rate. I do believe I thanked andyo twice - "Once sarcastically". But maybe I should say 3 times because LGNPST has proven to be a valuable tool. I read both threads entirely before beginning to get an understanding of the problems I might face, so of course I know andyo is sorta like the shit.

And LGNPST recognized my phone fine after it jacked the screen. It could eventually perform functions and read data normally, but could NEVER restore the screen.

I'm new to all this phone tech stuff and loving every minute of it....been reading this forum since I got my first droid (optimus m) and you seem like you know your stuff...just wanna say thanks for the knowledge that you put up and I hope to learn enough to one day pass it on

There's one step I neglected to mention in my tutorial.

To start the update process you must enter the phones SPC code.

To get this code use CDMAWorkshop: cdmaworkshop.rar

I'm getting an "Invalid or Deleted File" from MediaFire when I try and download this...

[Edit]: Ditto on the MS690ZV3_36.scr file (And they weren't included in the .zip file from earlier in this thread...)
