Root Lost: Firmware cab file

After downloading the firmware cab.file I need to try to unbrick my "V" it seem's to have dissapeared? My computer(running Windows Vista 32) showed it going to App Data/ Local/ Temp. The temp file shows the correct date and time of the last change, corresponding to the time and date of the download, but no cab. file to be found. I need to rename it to kdz instead of cab. in order for this to work, plus find it so I can use it with the KDZ updater. I know this procedure will not work if I just download another cab.file,I can't have any other firmware files on the computer, hiding or not,or this will not work. I'm sure I can't be that stupid(ignorant YES!),but I seemed to have lost it. Any Ideas where it is would be greatly appreciated. (Boy,I'm starting to hate being a NUUB)

This is correct. This folder(App Data folder) is one that has been unhidden. I saw the cab.file when it first downloaded and the location it gave me was App Data/ Local/ Temp . I wasn't Quite ready to deal with it at that time, but made a note of it's(the cab.file) location and time so I could easily find it again(or so I thought). When I was ready to deal with it and rename it, it was not there? It initially was in said folder, I saw it with my own two eye's. If it somehow is hidden from view inside said folder I don't know.

The rest of the file's in the above mentioned folder(App Data/ Local/ Temp ) are visible(about 25 in all)

So there's should be no trace of the firmware cab.file in my computer? Then if I Download another firmware file and rename it (the minute it is done downloading)I should be O.K. to try the Emergency mode download with the KDZ Updater...... I really appreciate that very useful piece of information(Boy I Hate Being A NUUB), Thanks again JerryScript.

I just want you to know, I have zero experience using the KDZ Updater, so please take extra care with what you are attmepting.

After taking great care to follow the instructions(renamed the file from a cab to kdz, installed the msxml.msi before launching the KDZ .exe ), I got an extract file error after hitting the update bar. From what all I have read I need to search for a cab. file from a different download source, untill I find one that will work. Trial and error-gotta love it! But Iv'e all ready been trying for over a month now, whats another(good thing I could afford to by another "V" at the time, out of work now though). when I (with help from people like yourself)get it unbricked I'll use it as a testing area for new Rom's and such, that way I don't brick the working phone.

I did finally get the KDZ updater to work. When I dowloaded the firmware cab.file right then and there I renamed it from cab. to kdz., then went into the App data/Local/Temp file that its located in and moved it to the root of the C:drive(forgot to mention when I renamed the file the file icon changed to a blank piece of paper)then moved it to the recycle bin. The original cab. file pops up on the C:drive ,I moved it to the recycle bin ,and the renamed file back to the root of the C:drive, then totally deleted the original cab.file leaving me only the renamed firmware file on my computer. Simply right??????If you do this kind of thing every day maybe. just glade I got it to work.Didn't help my phone though got an error code 126 when it tried to access the system library. Oh well , just another month long hurdle to figure out.Edit: This method has to be slightly changed if you are using the VM670ZV5_07 .cab file as follows:instead of moving the original cab file to the recycle bin after it pops up,first delete the renamed file. Then rename the original cab file again. Then move the original to the recycle bin and delete(this keeps the cab file from continuously replicating itself every time you hit the update bar on the KDZ updater, giving you an extract file error).

Did You Update The Phones Firmware??
I was trying to unbrick my current paper weight at the time, and was grabbing at straws. It did not work to unbrick my phone, but it did try to update. I don't know if the zv5 firmware will work,If thats what you really want to know. I don't even know if it is the 2.3 Gingerbread that it's rumored to be. If your just trying to fix your phone then use the zv4 firmware. For a little more info on the KDZ updater and the zv4 firmware go here http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-fix-bricked-lg-optimus-v.html

bumping this, The ZV5 I got a hold of is defenitely corrupted, can you tell me where you got your ZV5? and if you got it from LG, can you upload it please?

EDIT: NVM, it was a bad name causing it to be corrupt....
