Root [Merit] Complete ZTE Merit Guide: Root, Flash Recovery and Install New ROM (with links)

Yea it's your ROM, I'm not sure what the problem is, I checked the md5 sum, extracted the files and compressed them then into a .zip

I'm hoping that motorhead1991 may come on soon and help us sort this out. I don't really know why it wont install. In clockwork mod when I do "install zip" and continue the process it starts, then suddenly aborts. Idk.

Hmm that's odd... Well if I need to I will make another rom but my rom is a little less stock now but still in good working order. Hopefully motor head will know what to do.

One more question, do I need to leave the files for clockworkmod on my SD card? Trying to free up some space and there's system.yaffs2.img that's 219mb and data.yaffs2.img that's 133mb

You should be able to just back them up to your hard drive on your computer are they from a backup you made with clockwork mod? If they are you might want to keep them on the sd so if your phone goes down you can restore the backup.

I guess I'll back it up on my hard drive. If I need to I can just take out the microsd and use my adapter I suppose. A lot of space to free up when it only comes with a 2GB card, I'm looking to get a 16 or 32 this next week.

Yea you should be able to use the adapter. If you get a 16 or 32 go class ten if you have the money, you might have to order it but I have read the performance and durability is much better class 10. Have you tried to re-install launcher2 yet?

Class 10? This is new to me, I don't really get what that is. I haven't tried yet, I'm starting to get used to this UI more and liking it more over time.

Well micro sd cards and all memory cards come in different quality levels class 2, 4, and 10 etc. It just has to do with the quality and speed of the reading and writing. The micro sd that came with your phone is a class 2 I believe and they are known to burn out quick especially if you have a lot of apps on the sd card. The just Google about it if your curious.

D*#n this post is getting long.... If you put the backup files (yaffs2.img files) in the directory "/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup", you should be able to restore it with CWM. If you want to be able to do this, do not remove anything from the backup. Doing so invalidades the MD5 checksum.

I really dont like the one.three rom. Now im having a strange bluetooth issue. With my headset. When bluetooth is on, and headset not even paired, then go to dialer and try to call a number it just freezes up and doesnt dial. Turn bluetooth off, it dials the number i was trying to dial.

If bluetooth is on and I get a call, i can use the headset, just cant dial out. I regret ever installing one.three.

I really really need a stock straight talk rom.

things like this are the reason you should make a nandroid backup of your phone before you start using someone else's rom.

and i have yet to see anyone post either a nandroid of Straight Talk merit with root, or the non-root stock rom.

Yea I wish I would have made the backup now. one.three sucks so bad.

I was eager to root it and really didnt pay attention to what it was doing till it was to late. Im thinking ill go buy a new merit, root it and get the stock rom that way.

i've got you covered man. i will have a full stock straight talk merit rom up when it is finished uploading to mediafire. i bought a second just for stuff like this. it's been in the box for the last two months, but since so many really need a REAL Straight Talk Merit Stock Rom, i just made one. give me a few and you'll see the new thread up here.

Well that's great considering I decided to return my phone to Straight Talk to get the Optimus for 50$ more. Now I can revert and then unroot and I'll be set.

So after a few days I'm mostly happy with it, but where do I get the .apk for live wallpapers?

I've searched around here but couldn't find actual links, and then I read somewhere it has to be the livewallpaper.apk for your version of android; this one says it's gingerbread, and to further complicate matters, also read you need livewallpaperS.apk.

Apparently I need Root Browser but the permissions did not take on the file I found.. so how do I add LWP to one.three?

I also downloaded the Stock Merit Rom up there, but it won't take on my phone but maybe it is because I never flash recovered after another reboot (I put the file into a .zip with all of those smaller files in it).

HELP!! I did the Flash Recovery and Install new Rom (as instructed in Krystals post) and now I get nothing but errors and have to close. I connected the usb cable in order to attempt to figure out how to restore the stock nandroid, however it DOES NOT SEE THE PHONE now when connected ! I have the ZTE Merit Z990G straighttalk. I have no idea what to do - PLEASE HELP!
