Root [Merit] ZTE z990g Merit , Internal Space, SD card, Rooting

You're welcome. These phones don't have the huge internal storage that yours does, so it's pretty much a neccessity. I've only partitioned with the phone. Its completely possible to do it without wiping the card, using the computer.

I think I will try partition too..... I just want to make sure I know exactly what i am doing before I start

Backup your card to the computer before you partition, just in case.
You're welcome! :) Glad I could help with the experience.

Russ, I'm going to read the thread you spoke of about partitioning and see if I can tackle it, I might need your advice/help if my non-android brain can't grasp it :-)

You can use your PC also. Just turn on mass storage & use windows explorer & navigate to it.

I have my 4gb partitioned with CWM. it works great but my PC can't see the format that it uses. It shows a drive but if i try to open it my PC does the safety shout down.

I used CWM to partition a 32gb card & it left a large portion of the card unused. I don't remember the size but it may have been half. I know I had 2gb for linking.

There is no way to delete the current ROM at least that o know of just backup your SD to the computer

Ok, i'm boldly going where i've never gone (again)

To back up my SD card, don't I have two options ?

1) Connect to pc , copy
or
2) Use SD adapter

I notice in the thread it says install Link2SD after following all the steps listed below.
I already have it downloaded, should I uninstall it before attempting this?

1. Backup everything from your sd card and apps
(this will format your sd card and apps)

2. Boot into clockworkmod

3. Go to advance

4. - Partition SD Card

5. - 1024M (1GB)
(recommended for smaller sd cards)

6. - 0M

After this step the phone will just sit there for a while just leave it alone and it will say done when it's done!

Important!
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition

Reboot your phone/ or install a custom rom (your choice)

Download Link2SD from the market

Run Link2SD and a thing should pop and click on ext2 then reboot the phone..

It's OK to have it installed first. You're doin just fine. If you follow the steps in that thread, you will be fine. With a 32gb card, you may want to go with a 2gb partition? You have lots of space. :)

I have a jacked up mess now...

After following the instructions above to partition...

Superuser will not gain root access...

Does partitioning unroot me?

No it doesn't. Superuser should not be moved to the SD. Was it?
After parting the card, put the card in the computer and put your files back on it. Put it back in the phone and reboot.

When I open Link2SD...

The box comes up to select
ext2
i click ok
Then I get

Sorry!
Application Superuser (in process com.noshufou.android.su) is not responding
