Root [Merit] ZTE z990g Merit , Internal Space, SD card, Rooting

For some reason I can't get Superuser to work...

I've uninstalled 3 times.... It hasn't asked for permission

and it wont let me update su binary

Superuser should ask for permission when you hit "tap to update". Fixing S.U. is the main focus now.

Ok now it say in superuser that
superuser has been denied superuser permissions
I have it set to prompt me

I no longer have the message that Superuser has been denied..

But SuperUser won't allow rootcheck to run, I have tried setting it at prompt and allow

When I tap to update....it gets to part


gaining root access and always says ...fail or freezes up



Something got screwed up, I followed his guide
 
I don't know how, but Superuser is working again (was about to smash something)


Run Link2SD and a thing should pop and click on ext2 then reboot the phone.. (did that)

Now I can't find this setting

Hint:
If you want all of your apps to your sd card then go into Link2SD click setting, and make sure Auto link is checked.

Press the "Menu" button ( 3 horizontal line button. Bottom left of your phone) in Link2SD, Go to Settings. It's in there.
 
Yes. Make a backup. :)
EDIT- Some apps work just fine when forced to SD. Others break. If you force move an app, do a reboot. If the icon is gone, you have to leave it on the phone, but, you can link it. Linking is how you can have 45 or more user apps and still have 90+MB of free space on the phone. If you mess something up, restore from CWM. Simple. :)

I don't think you can do that with the CWM we use. I think it changes the MD5 sum then it is useless.

I thought the same at one point then I tried and restored it :) works like a charm and easy to distinguish
 
I tried one with the Recovery In was using & the MD5 sum was wrong but tried with the old CWM & it worked but also found out there may have been other problems. I'll get back to you on this.

I've renamed multiple ones and all have flashed perfectly for me. Filename shouldnt affect the md5 checksum.

All the default ringtones can be deleted.
You can repeat this same process for deleting default "notification". However, For the notification sounds I suggest you leave the following on your phone.:

To my knowledge you can't change the first two, so removing them will leave you without notifications when you get MMS's and Missed Calls. I also left New_SMS because I personally use it for my default SMS. However, It can be removed if you don't use the default sms sound.

If you'd like to remove the annoying StaightTalk music when you first turn on your phone, follow these steps:

The file you want to delete (or rename, I simply renamed mine and left it on the phone.) Bootsound.mp3. I renamed mine to Bootsound.mp3.bak

As for Music2.apk leave it. Some say it breaks certain things, Though I had mine removed for days and didn't notice anything broke. I recently restored it back on my phone just in case.

I'm using Solid Explorer
I'm trying to get rid of the annoying Straight talk music, I found the file but I can't find a way to rename it ( Don't want to delete it)

Any clue?
 
A little more info on your process would help. If its boot sound, it can be deleted, moved or replaced.
 
I don't know that App. I use ES Explore you just long press & select delete. No idea how to use yours. With ES you have to go into app settings to enable root exploring & mount it as writable.
 
You have the stick ROM don't you? why not just delete it & be happy. I even deleted the stock launcher. I use a Holo ICS launcher that is really cool. I also deleted the two boot.img files. Now it just says Android. You can use any MP3 file you want by just renaming it to the same as the boot.ogg file.

I was hoping to rename it and save it incase I ran into any issues....

But I guess it doesn't matter if I delete it since I have made a back up.


kingmt.... stick rom? If thats the rom that came on it. yes I still have that.

Deleting the stock launcher would get rid of that tracfone screen when it boots up, right? I would love to have another launcher on this thing.
That could very well be my next little project.

Stick Rom = Stock Rom. Your very first backup should be stock.
Stock Launcher = Desktop for your phone. Where all your pretty icons are.
And negative, changing your launcher will not get rid of the annoying tracfone logo. If you want that gone, use one of the many boot animation tools.

I'd like to know how exactly you did that. When I tried the same it completely screwed up the booting process. I use Halo ICS as well, However once "froze" my default launched my phone no longer gets passed the bootanimations.
 
The Ogg audio format is not the same as mp3. So if your going to switch out boot sounds I would encode the sound you want to Ogg with format factory first. Screwing around with the boot animations is a bit tedious I would recommend using rom Toolbox much cleaner than rummaging around with es file explorer and deleting and remaining. ;-)
