root and recovery are posted in the threads, look for it there, rom...the kitkat version has some bugs but there trying to fix it, so be patience for a bit until we hear more from the developers

thats cool and all, but what i booted into wasnt fastboot, on screen it said Download Mode, now iam gonna work on figuring this out, could be used as an unbrick method for sure

Well, i just discovered a new mode on the f6 bootloader.
Emergency Mode..
Could this/they be similar to Samsung's odin mode? Maybe that's how LG support tool does kdz? LoopyD wants to hack the bootloader, maybe he can see what secrets the bootloader holds? UUDDLRLRBA...

Stupid LG.... Good luck to you? Morningcall, or whatever it said when you soft bricked a 770? I really had a soft spot for LG phones until they started locking them up. Yeah Loki and 2ndinit were great for these phones but it just got to the point where it would take almost a day on ADB flashing shtuff and unbricking to get a typical LG rooted, flashed with a ROM and configured just right ;)

My N5 has proven to be well worth the ridiculous amount I paid for it. Unlocked and running CM12 in 5 min flat, and almost impossible to brick. Would be nice if all budget MPCS LGs were like that. I love the physical F6 look and feel, it's just empty inside. I'd have easily sacrificed the QR and NFC for more storage anyday. But oh well....
My mindset is different. I get thrills from making the device do things either it's not designed to do or it's designed to prevent me, the owner, from doing. Nexus devices are great and well-supported, but the hackability provided by Google also makes it less of a challenge. The F6 is cheaper and more limited, but can LG really stop you?
Can't use another carrier? Get an unlock code.
Can't change system settings? Root it.
Can't change system firmware? Loki'fy.
Can't use unsigned updates? Install a custom recovery.
Running out of storage space? Run the OS from an SD card.
Keep going and Ubuntu, Firefox, Sailfish, LuneOS, Tizen... are all fair games.
It may take a day, a month, or a year. There's always a challenge. If one day we reach the limit of F6, well, it didn't cost us too much money.

I remember that download mode from my old MS840. From powered off, battery out state, had to press and hold both vol+ and vol- keys simultaneously while plugged into USB. Insert battery, bang. Download mode. That was the only way to restore your firmware using the online LG updater tool if a brick happened. That was, until the KDZ flasher surfaced, making it much easier.

KDZ flasher would also allow you to flash MS840V (VoLTE) firmware to a standard MS840 (online updater wouldn't allow that), which was nice since VV4 firmware was way more stable than ZVA.

You could also flash VS840 and LS840 (LG Lucid, LG Viper, respectively) to the Connect.

Maybe some mad KDZ science experiment could come out of this? [emoji4]

That was, until the KDZ flasher surfaced, making it much easier.

KDZ flasher would also allow you to manually flash MS840V (VoLTE) firmware to a standard MS840 (online updater wouldn't allow that), which was nice since VV4 firmware was way more stable than ZVA.

You could also flash VS840 and LS840 (LG Lucid, LG Viper, respectively) to the Connect. Scary thing was, it would actually boot up afterwards. Somebody with username of Un1ocked confirmed it with pics lol....

Maybe some mad KDZ science experiment could come out of this?

(Take that with a grain of salt, please, as careless flashing runs a SERIOUS risk of a permanent brick!!) [emoji4]

Never mind, Connect bootloader was unlocked... Probably wouldn't work on newer ones that are locked...

Or wait..... Hey DM, is there a way to modify or write over a bootloader in download mode? May be a REALLY stupid question, just throwing it out there haha....

i dont know how i got into download mode before, but on screen in said download mode, so emergency mode is something else too

What about using the cab to kdz festure of LG IpTest? We will have to sacrifice a phone to the gods to figure out if we can modify the bootloader this way.

So it is possible to reflash if you corrupt the bootloader. Good to know.
Yes, if I remember correctly from LG Motion forums, pissing the bootloader off would result in a morningcall security error. KDZ flasher would fix this, in most cases. But some of the crew were permabricking their phones trying to work around the BL....

Now, is the bootloader reflashed during the KDZ restore, or are the bootloaders on these particular LG phones on a locked down partition? As in, if you attempt to overwrite this bootloader, its permabricked?

Now that is a good question. With everything else being a pain in the A** on these phone's I would venture to say yes. When I screwed my phone up I had installed CWM and then flashed cm11 V13 not knowing about the bootloop problem and then was not able to get into CWM to try and reflash the rom.

That's where TWRP trumps CWM.....

CWM does the job.... And in a big fan of rainbow mode... just because it's kooky....

But the flexibility of TWRP is beautiful and simple for simpletons like me to navigate and understand

Well, i just discovered a new mode on the f6 bootloader.

Emergency Mode..

on screen screen it says ***********************************
* Emergency mode!
* Emergency mode!
* Good luck to you!
***********************************

Could this be annother unbrick method ?

to boot into emergency mode, power off the phone

hold vol+, power, while you do that, plug in the usb cable to the phone, immedietly it will boot into emergency mode
I gess this sounds like its DL mode the difference its the this is built under other phone criteria. And seems the lg definitely filter in their stuff some way how.

Like u said before ... It would take someone to sacrifice their ph to find out.

I purchased the LG D415 optimus L90 on the T-Mobile network to use as my daily driver while I mess with this one. Having a new phone is always exciting. :)

Good luck finding anybody who will do it. LG Motion 770 is what started the war against LG's bootloader, and the casualties were horrific. Hroark and Aboatright even attempted to attack that seemingly impenetrable bootloader and smoked their Motions doing so.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe attempting to write over that bootloader gave the morningcall error, while successfully writing over it with a compromised bootloader is what made the phone's underwear bomb explode :D

I can't imagine LG changing the bootloader since the MS770 to now, as it does a fantastic job keeping jerks like us from tinkering around with their crappy phones.

With that said, and with 2ndinit, Loki and custom recovery available, I doubt there will be any takers on the BL front.

EDIT: If I ever get my hands on a busted up/blacklisted or malfunctioning F6 that still boots, I'll do it. Just have the best possible attack plan ready, cuz there is only one chance or it becomes a desk ornament.

Betcha LG techs are looking at these forums and busting out laughing: "Hey look, Scooter! Another one smoked! ROFLmicin.... Idiots, I wonder when they'll finally figure out all they have to do is (insert most simple overlooked button/plug/gesture combo) to unlock it!!" Ahahaha!!!

Anyway.... Back to uh, CarbonROM discussion? ;)

I wonder if the bootloader is backed up hardware wise. And a check is done even before it boots. X. X. Like an eerom chip with the real bootloader or a chip that verifies it. Can someone confirm this?

It just might explain why the F6 poops itself when you modify the secuirty out. It might be as simple as a secuirty key that points to a nuker or something?

I wish someone could explain why LG just wouldn't allow people to unlock their phones even after all this time passed.

I mean jeez, if you pester Huawei enough they'll send you whatever the hell you want just to shut you up.

I wanna know whether the partition where bootloader resides (I'd imagine it has it's own dedicated partition, riiiiiight?) is locked down, or if it's NOT locked, per say, but maybe init looks at and says GTFO is something don't seem right?

Well messing with the bootloader is all well and good. But please don't be offended but we really need to focus on maybe getting more then 1 rom for this phone actually working better the 50% on kitkat if we did that. I could be possibly talked in to blowing out one of my F6 phones for the cause on the bootloader. But until then i will not do that no offence to anyone.
