Root [MetroPCS] [ROM][4.4.4]CARBON ROM Kitkat 4.4.4 for LG Optimus F6 [LOTS OF FIXES]

Agreed -- but I can't help but feel that this particular phone is a lost cause. It has an internal memory problem -- plain and simple. There is simply not enough internal space and trying to get it to use external space is a pain. Regardless of this ROM, there doesn't appear to be a good, stable way to solve the space problem even though many have tried. It's a flawed design, IMO.

For those sticking with the F6, I do hope that the developers can get them closer to a usable daily driver, of course. But, in the long run, it is a phone designed with a significant flaw that is not easily worked around. At some point, it just isn't worth it. There are other phones now in the same price range without that flaw -- so it makes little sense for anyone to continue buying the F6 unless they simply don't know any better (which is how I happened to get one).

This is hopefully where the Optimus F60 gets picked up for CM development. It kinda reminds me of a mini Nexus 5. The F60 has some serious potential, if one can overlook the gritty display.

As for the F6, I have to agree that it's a lost cause. If Loki can't even make anything good out of it, nothing will ;)

Its not bad if u use the SD hack it actually is very good I have no issues with it at all as far as storage and I have more than 7 gigs of apps and music

All be it I'm on xperion wjichs is rock solid not having a US source for KitKat is was hinders development it makes it way more time consuming and difficult so sorry but I disagree with what you guys are saying as long as there are devs nothing is a lost cause

I agree it's flawed.... And developing for it is probably frustrating because no matter all the time spent in dev won't give it more room....

The only thing I can think of doing to fix it it's to figure out how to make it let us actually back away from the "insufficient storage" limitation that's put in place once it's reached.....

Besides all the dancing to add external space while fighting kit kat into letting us install on the sd.....

If we could remove that crippling flag... That seems to be impossible to get away from once given warning...

We watch our phones like hawks for everything else... If only we could use our phones like PC's....

We control many things... And the regulars here.... that are more than happy to beta test... Should be able to treat our phones as such without thresholds.....

My PC can tell me that things are getting full.... but I'll notice it before it does... And I can back off... and move or uninstall.... and I won't get crippled by a flag that cannot be reset it seems....

If only we had that more control.... We know how to flash ROMS... we have learned tricks and fixes.. That do not really apply to many other phones......

Why can't we remove the limiter...or make it dangerously low. .... they're are many other things we make adjustments for.... excuses for....

I pay way too much attention to things that shouldn't matter in a"smart phone".... so given this one little allowance...

Has anyone even thought about removing the "insufficient space"limit?...

Believe me.. I know how to handle having little space... My C drive is only 28 gigs big....

I have to redirect every install I do

There are several "SD Hacks" -- exactly which one are you using?

I used one and it worked fine until, every time the kernel crashed and I had to reboot, it would lose the changes until I reinstalled the hack. That got old really fast...

I used warrantyvoider and if your using the KitKat ROM u have to do the SD fix in order for your phone to write to SD properly cuz without it it just is unstable and will mess up at least that's how it worked for me and it always stuck

Yes, but the problem is that that SD hack does not recover well after a crash. And this ROM crashes all the time for me.

And, again, it is all just a temporary hack/workaround. This phone is lacking in internal space and that is a problem. Even doing the SD hack, it is all just a hack.

But, good luck to all. I've moved on. My Moto X is arriving in 2 days. :)

My problem is that I can't back up apps with super back up...

I can do it... But when I have a reason to reflash this ROM... It counts my back upped apps as installed.. And trips the out of space nags..... before I can Finnish updating gapps......

It's funny and stupid... Grrr...lol

I am considering trying something with my F6. The whole rooting, Loki'ing, downgrading, flashing, wiping, installing SD hack etc seems a bit much for this thing. I've never bothered trying to hack a locked LG before so I'm probably gonna smoke it :)

Not a big deal, it's just taking up space on my desk. May be a good upgrade for my kid if I manage to not kill it.

What SD hack would you recommend? I think I can figure out the root and Loki process, but I'd rather get some advice on which is the best... The SD hack threads in F6 are a complete mess.

Going to have to respectfully disagree. The storage issue is not a limitation. I say the only devices with storage limitation are those without a microSD slot or OTG support or other forms of external expansion. Like you said, many attempts have been made at solving the problem, but a general approach is likely to run into problems here and there because there are many different platforms and configurations (the so-called Android fragmentation). However, for this particular phone (or maybe even applicable to a phone meeting certain criteria), I claim solving the storage problem is not only possible, it's done. And I am not talking about my DataOnSD hack, because like you said, that's just a hack. Basically, if you're able to replace the entire OS, it should be possible to deal with a software issue. Whether someone has the know-how and the motivation is a different issue.

As for the F6, I have to agree that it's a lost cause. If Loki can't even make anything good out of it, nothing will ;)
Loki is great. I think it's almost as good as an unlocked bootloader. Not a rhetorical question: what can a device with an unlocked bootloader do that a Loki'able device can't?

Has anyone even thought about removing the "insufficient space"limit?...
Well, what happens when one runs out of space in one's PC? Some people uninstall unneeded stuff and delete useless junk to make room. Basically, they debloat. Some people attach an external hard drive or map a NAS device. So in essence, they "Link2HD" or "FolderMount" some external storage. Then there are those open-the-case-and-install-a-new-internal-drive do-it-yourselfers. Let's say you install a new internal drive. Do you leave the OS as is and install new programs to the new D: drive? Or do you put the new drive at C: as the system drive? Right now on this phone we can use the external SD as the "D:" drive, so to speak, but it's certainly doable to make it the "C:" drive. Either way, there should be no "insufficient space" issue once a solution is working properly.

Countdown until my laptop should be just under two weeks. After my OS setup and configure (because I run nodded Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) which should take just under three days the bootloader hack shall begin. :)

Motivation? Oh, I'm not motivated. I'm obsessed. :D

Question: I'm going to attempt L2SD.... I have a 16GB SDHC class 4 card at my disposal. It's a couple of years old and works fine in a Huawei I have here, but is it fast enough for the F6 hack? Sorry, have plenty of ADB time logged in, I'm just not a removable storage expert ;)

If you're talking about the SD hack where you swap the external for internal then probably not. My class 10 isn't even fast enough IMO. I think if you're just using the link2sd app then you should be fine... Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It should be considering mine is a no name brand knockoff from the MetroPCS store and works well. I recommend SD Booster to change your read / write speed. It helps me a lot when I have older SD cards installed. You need to format the extended partition to ext3 so that it is compatible with TWRP and can read within recovery.

I understand the idea of a c drive and d drive.....

I don't want to install till the last byte is used...... I want it to not limit me and not lock it to where I can't uninstall to back off and move things around......

I don't care if my phone tells me "hey.. You're running out of room"...I do care that no matter what I uninstall... The limiter is still limiting....

Hmmmm.....OK!!!!!

I know how to manage storage.... I'm used to it....

But the phones I've had in the past let me install apps after I've uninstalled poop I don't need.... After it has told me "insufficient storage"

This marvel of ill design and forgotten support... chooses to not let me shuffle junk about to make it shut up about storage....

I can remove everything that won't crash it by removing it (with definite promise it will boot loop if rebooted)...

And it'll still tell me insufficient storage if I attempt to install any good apps...but will let me install themes allllllllll day..

I would still be on my third or second install if carbon didn't lock down installation of essential apps.....m

But instead.... It locks up because of updates.. and or restoring.... Or Google play synching and installing every lame app I've tried.... Of I don't catch it...

Thanks to Google play synching... I get the whole feeling that... I'm starting a car from the bonnet.... And then running after after it to stop it because it's in gear.....

Precautions after precautions.... That with out it locking down ... would never be needed...

Just saying.... I think bard had the right idea when he accidentally dropped his f6 in the toilet... Lol...

Sorry... Long winded rant

*runs his fingers through his beard in thought *So in a sense fixing the insufficient storage problem indefinitely is rewriting the entire way the LG optimus F6 stores data.

Thank you LG. You made our lives just that much harder.

This makes having to develop an entire new system, bootloader, recovery, and everything that directly accesses the memory on the device. Therefore we start from scratch... And abandon carbon... No use dealing with it if we have to re write the entire phone...
