Root [MetroPCS] [ROM][F6] Xperion ROM **Updated 2/11/2015**

External SD? Like popping a new one in, backing it up on that and popping the old one back in to flash the ROM?

EDIT: OK, I've got it to boot back into recovery. I tried looking into both restoring from SD and from External SD, and it says neither can be mounted. Is there a way to make it so that it can be mounted? Is there a way I can flash a stock ROM or something from my PC?

Okay I hope you're able to access your micro sd from a computer... download the files for Rom onto your sd. Install in phone, boot into recovery. Follow steps from GT's site. When you install from sd, select external, all files will be there.

You, however, will be unable to recover anything from before you started this journey. Always back-up to external sd in future. Less likely to have an accident.

I was not. However, I was able to boot into download mode, and flash MS50010i_00.kdz to the phone. I was able to bring the phone back up, root it, and upgrade it to 12b.

Turns out, my phone has never had an SD card, and that is why I was not able to mount it in recovery mode. I scrapped one from my old Huawei phone that I never use anymore, flash the ROM and Freedom kernel from it, and my phone is ready to rock now.

MORAL OF THE STORY make sure your phone has an SD card before you do anything to it, and make sure to store recoveries in EXTERNAL SD.

From what I've seen so far I'm loving this ROM. Snappy as hell, and it even saves on the battery. I'm also liking that I can import the look from the ADW launcher that I had before into the Nova Launcher, very nice.

Thanks for the help guys, sorry for going into panic mode on y'all.

@@@ GameTheory...
Finally. . Upgraded. N flash XperionRom... with all fixes. ..
Running great smooth
No hassles @all...
No kernel yet. .. will do.. Great wrk.!
I flashed it. N as a try i went back to stock12b to see if it wrks.. awsome so i flash Xrom back.
Edit:
Under test for a week now... no issue
But one thing. . I notice 12b was throwing my LTE signal
Back to GSM.4G... (weird)

[I just love showing my ignorance about installing ROMs! :D]

After installing the ROM via CWM, will "F6Utilities2" still be installed? Or, do I have to install it again in the new ROM?

You'll still have CWM installed, but not f6utilities app. Just install the app after the rom.

I installed ROM, Xsetup, and "Freedom Kernel". It looks good.

1. I overlooked these instructions concerning the installation of "Freedom Kernel": [NOTE: I did a backup before installing ROM]
1. Make a backup if you haven't already.
2. Wipe cache in recovery
3. Then flash the zip
Will this be an issue/problem? Is there something I need to do going forward? How do we use "Freedom Kernel"? i.e. Do I need to install "SetCPU"? [in order to use features, etc.]

And, what testing are you recommending in order to put the ROM through the paces?

[Thank U very much for all your hard work and time in this project! :)]

EDIT: "Xrecovery" is a different CWM and not "Loki"?

You should always follow the instructions to avoid issues, they're there for a reason. Nevermind them now. If you installed freedom kernel you don't have to do anything, but if you want to make changes to its settings then install SetCPU. To keep things simple for you, just use the recovery you already have from the other thread.

I just overlooked the instructions for "Freedom Kernel" [didn't scroll far enough down the page]...:banghead:

And, of course, I want to do some testing. It's the least I can do to help you and others who are using it?

EDIT: As far as "Link2SD" is concerned, does "Titanium Backup" have any features that would help/replace it?

Setcpu is good but i prefer rom toolbox pro it has alot of things you can use for root even cpu setter like setcpu its a few bucks but prolly one of the only root type apps youd need for everyday use.you can even flash zips but need to install rom manager to use it in toolbox just cause of copyright issues

[That reminds me...]
Root Browser is included in this ROM. Every time I open it, it pops up:
To enable all the features of Root Browser we need to download some small utilities
What is this about? And, is this possibly part of "ROM Toolbox Pro"?

Hey GameTheory,
I wanted to ask you. Is there anyway I can remove the Nova setting from the main phone's setting. I like Apex Launcher better, plus I paid for it and don't want to replace it. Also is there a simple way to replace it and link it to Apex Setting instead. Thanks in advance.

No, can't be done. You can just use apex like you normally would.

Day 1:
I gotta say the battery life seems to be wayyy better! :congrats:

[I have not had a chance to delve into the "Link2SD" and "Aparted" thing about saving internal SD]

Let's consider using memory:
Q: I was wondering if anyone using the ROM has used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify? It may not be necessary with this ROM.
@GameTheory
U removed so much bloatware/crapware for this ROM. Have you felt the need to add anything to help manage memory?

Q: I was wondering if anyone using the ROM has used Greenify? It may not be necessary with this ROM.

I do, though only to hibernate apps that are always running in the background (like Snapchat) to save on battery life, and so I'm not so distracted by notifications when I don't want to be.

It's not necessary, but I do find it useful. YMMV

Have you tried it on any "System" apps?

EDIT: What I was thinking was to compile a list of apps that are "safe" to Greenify?

Start a new thread for that sort of stuff so that you don't throw this thread off topic. You can discuss your greenify list there and share with everyone.

[NOTED: I was thinking specifically about apps built into this ROM]

Is there anything in this ROM that would allow you to turn off transceivers of some apps? It's a way of preventing, in some cases, apps from starting up?

any fixes for apollo music player. i continue to get a stopped working message. ive reflashed and still a no go

I saw this while browsing:

What about system updates in general when using this ROM?

I don't think GT included those pesky OTA files when creating this ROM, so you'll probably never know about any until it's discussed in the F6 forums. Honestly I wouldn't worry about it, since any future update for the F6 will most likely be an updated Jellybean. Even if KitKat, who cares, it'll suck just as bad as original firmware and may even come with exploit patches (bad).

And me thinks that even if somehow an OTA upgrade request did make it to your phone, it would detect root and reject the install anyway.

However.... If one really felt it were necessary to upgrade, probably best and safest way is to flash original KDZ firmware, losing root and all work you did to get this ROM going, and click the software upgrade in settings menu.

@Spec2nirvash
I did not realize you were so cynical! :p I'm just curious. And, you could always un-root if needed to install a system update?

:D :D nahhhhhhh

I can say with 99.999% certainty that there is no OTA client included with this ROM. Meaning, you're phone will not check for updates as original factory firmware would, so you'll never see a prompt for it. Unrooting in this situation would be pointless, since the OTA client (the one not included here) is what checks for the root access anyway. So you have two and a half choices:

1. Flash new updated firmware manually.

B: Flash old 12(x) firmware manually, and let phone update itself.

Half: Restore your backup image of 12(b,i, whichever) in CWM, open settings, software update, and pray you don't get that "hey, you're rooted so screw you" error from LG.

All three options above will remove root and obliterate your custom recovery anyway, so it's best to leave all of that work alone, unless the new update has some really cool $hit that one can't pass up :D

You'll always be able to manually install any updates that are released. Sammyz keeps up with LG firmware, you can use the same KDZ flash tool used in the unbricking process. My advice is, if you see a firmware update out for the F6, wait for a few people to take the update and make sure it's not a POS that has issues.

Sorry for the post. Adderall has worn off, and now I can't sleep. Grrr.... Much love, Ear :D
