Root [MetroPCS] Tethering for MPCS.F6....!!! All Roms **VIDEO for stock only** UPDATED 12-02-14

What kind of configuration did you have to do? Android? And, Windows? And, did you have to use Android Tuner Task Manager to "kill" anything?

EDIT: Were you able to enable encryption using this app?

EDIT2: Where did this specific tethering process originate? XDA?
to me its a hit or miss it works sometimes sometimes it dont

Outside - no good WiFi

For some reason, I thought if you had no WiFi, you could share your cell data as WiFi. Tether app won't start because there is no WiFi. Yes/No? Any way to share cell data as WiFi?

Turn cell data ON
Turn wifi OFF
Begin the hotspot procedure

Yeh, thx. I tried that. I press on "Start to start tethering" and nothing happens. Unless there is some configuration that is different when attempting to share cell data? As you stated above, I turned cell data ON [which is the default] and I turned WiFi OFF. Nada.

EDIT: It's very disappointing. I specifically went out today where I knew the WiFi was spotty. And, I hoped to share my cell data with my laptop as I was doing successfully using this procedure at home. I double-check all the settings for tether. And, I check for hostapd using "Task Manager" and it was not present. This makes senses if the tether won't start?

What is your configuration?

you say tether doesn't do anything when you hit start tethering, didn't you successfully get it working yesterday"

1. Manage apps> WiFi Tether>Wipe Cache/Data>Uninstall app>Reboot
2. Install app again
3. Configure as in OP
4. It is now working.
5. It's possible that I forgot to CHECK the box in WiFi Tether for my laptop...
I thought this remained selected if you disconnect and reconnect
5a. Yes, I tested this. I killer WiFi Tether.
b. I restarted WiFi Tether and starting tethering again. The laptop remained selected and I did not have to repeat checking it in the list of "Connected/Authorized Clients"
6. For some reason, it seems as the uninstall/reinstall did the trick. I did use Link2SD for this app. I don't know if that have any effect?

EDIT: I don't know what others have experienced. It seems like once you authorize a MAC address it remains authorized and does not have to be checked off again.

Security: I noticed other "IPhones" trying to connect. As long as you don't deliberately authorize them, they have no access to your WiFi or phone?

They can connect to your wifi but the internet would be disabled, you can test it out your self if you have another wifi capable device around you ;)

Slightly off topic

Link2SD for a rooted tethering app?

Totally off topic

Buddy, maybe you ought be more selective with what you toss to the SD. Honestly, I'm shocked it works. Never would have crossed my mind to do that.

I don't mean to be rude or mean. And if I am misinformed, or wrong, tell me and link me to info

I keep it in internal. Thought about moving it to /system/apps

What criteria do you use for applying Link2SD for an app?

I also have the tethering app on SD card with link2sd. I don't tethering all that often. If it is not available, it is not end of the world. What is the issue?

l was of the impression that a tether app isn't "just another app".

as example, I would never put my email app on SD. Or phone app. Or any other app that tickles the internals... Rom ToolBox, Root Browser, Orbot, etc are all apps I'ld never move to SD.

Task killers, live wallpaper, BUSYBOX and apps that use it.... no SD.

Am I wrong?

I don't know about that. The only rule I know is don't put any "mission critical" apps on the SD card. If something is "nice to have", I move it to the SD card. For example, I don't use tether often, I move it to SD card. I have both a hotmail account and a gmail account but I keep outlook app on the phone but gmail app is on the SD because I need to have access to my hotmail account all the time but I can wait to read my gmail later if they are not available from my phone for whatever reason.

I haven't paid internet of cable for the past 4yrs thanx to wifi-tether. I hav used other ways to connect my divices
With no luck. ..
With this phone i hav been using this method for a few months already. No issues@ all.
So..... good luck...
My only wrk plan is to be able to connect Gaming consoles ( xbox,PS,Wii etc... )

Good luck! I hear connecting Gaming stuff is the "Holy Grail" of tethering?

Um. Tether laptop/PC to wifi on phone. Use network cable and internetconnection sharing.

Yeah, needs the PC on, but it works.

I'm able to tether to consoles using this tethering guide and a vpn app such as hotspotshield

What does the VPN do? I have used VPNs for quite some time now on the PC side. What roles do they play in this process of tethering to console that's different from the process of tethering to a PC? And, if you use them, can they eliminate the need for a "User Agent" plug-in for your browser on the PC side?
