Root MikG 3.1 Hot Reboots - My Problem/Findings - Your Thoughts??

Are you on all the most recent radio, pri and nv updates?

Um...maybe??? Not sure. I'll tell you this. I rooted for the first time about a year ago, used a stock rooted Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs and then my first custom ROM was MikG 2.56 back in about August/September 2011 and been on that up until 3/3, last week. If the radios, pri and nv are updated WITH THE ROMs then I AM updated. If it something that I would have done separately then no, have never updated them.

How do I check if I am up to date?? Also, you're the VERY FIRST to ask about the radio, pri and nv...and there was no mention of maybe or likely needing to update with the release of MikG 3.XX...so I was wondering your thoughts with the radio and/or pri issues?? I'm up for trying ANYTHING but would also like to understand the thinking behind the suggestions....

THANKS!!

Any reason why you didn't format through recovery? Just curious, I like to do as much as possible within the phone.

It shouldn't matter one way or another..

just something to keep in mind with everyone having random reboots.

there are certain ICS roms that i have loaded on my evo that keep rebooting for no reason. Well just today i think i got it narrowed down to kernel voltages. even with or without overclocking it, i would get reboots. even after a feresh install and not doing anything.

well today, i used vipermod and set all voltages to -25mv and it hasnt rebooted once since.

moral of the story? try to undervolt your phones, and see if it stabilizes the issues as it did for me. certain phones just simply dont like certain kernels.

The initial thought with some buddies over at theMikMik was that I had either data corruption or a card issue and then the suggestion to reformat the card clean using the application SD Formater in the posts above. So, that is what I did...

Forgive me but when you say "reformat through recover" is there a special menu option for that?? Or does that happen on its own through the proper wipe processes?? When I wipe, I use the method specifically suggested to me by the Admin "Jadeboy7" at theMikMik forums at the following link:

Can we flash over the old ROM?

Wipe cache, dalvik, boot, system, android_secure, data, sd-ext, all EXCEPT your SD-CARD...each up to THREE TIMES. Might be OVER-overkill and duplicative..some people say to use Superwipe...whatever, ya know?? Been MANY people who swear by the process and I didn't have trouble before so that's what I use.

And when I have set up a partition for a2sd (which, BTW, I have NOT DONE for the purposes of recently troubleshooting my reboot issues), I do so within Amon Ra...create a 2048MB EXT2 partition then upgrade to EXT3.

So what menu choice or which processes above that I might already do in preparation for flashing a ROM would be considered "reformatting through recovery?"

THANKS!!

we were talking about it over here too in the very disgruntled thread.

Here is supposed to be a link to latest stock rom.

[ROM] 4.67 - Rooted - Optimized - Sharing means caring - xda-developers

How about backing up and wiping appropriately and flash it?

You are still on old radios too, huh? Don't think that would be a problem.

There is a version of previous stock you might try too.

Let us know. Hang in there.

Actually - upgrading the radios, and then updating PRL & Profile might also help. Sometimes the old radios don't work well with the newer drivers, and can cause instability. At this point, it definitely couldn't hurt to try.

I thought of the radios as a variable but didn't think they would be a problem. The Captain says they could be, so, it is definitely worth a shot.

Thanks for the note! Do you think that one would have a problem, however, with just the STOCK kernal?? My assumption (and I think is the case with MikG 3.XX) is that the stock kernal is just that...STOCK...and not tweaked in any way.

Also interesting that you SUGGEST undervolting because when I had MikG 2.56 I tried out a Freedom kernal and my camera wouldn't work. Keeping FC'ing. Posted my issue here in AF I think and perhaps theMikMik forum and it was suggested to flash back the original "stock" kernal. Well, that fixed it...and the belief was that UNDERVOLTING was the PROBLEM in the custom kernal.

Were you using a STOCK kernal when you had the reboots?? And were your reboots the "hot reboots"....just "short and sweet" quickly booting back up to where you left off...NOT one of these FULL SHUT DOWN and restart type boots, yes??

I'm in the process of LITERALLY like my DOZENTH or MORE or so flash and test of various card reformats and wipes and ROMs. Currently on MikG 3.11 again with the HOPE that the reformat process simply through my Mac might help my situation. If it does NOT, I would try the custom kernal option and undervoltage just for kicks. What is the process for "setting all the voltages to -25mv"...is that done through SetCPU or some other process?? I've flashed custom kernals but only tweaks the cpu speed, nothing else.

Also is there more than one Vipermod kernal to choose from? And have you any experience with Anthrax or Lionfish which I also heard recommended for use with MikG (but not necessarily because of reboot issues).

I already have the stock kernal available to flash back to stock so I'm ready to flash a custom kernal and try the undervoltage should I have any reboots with my latest tests....

THANKS!!

I admire the tenacity in which you are trying to tackle this issue.

As far as radios go, I'm not sure if that will affect anything or not, but they are updated seperately so if you don't remember doing it chances are you haven't.

As I suspected, tommys classic EVO gave you no problems.

These reboots happen on a few of my fakilys evos running mikg, and neither of them have a partitioned card

I said I'm up for anything so I'll likely try the radios. Let me see how my latest TACKLE of MikG 3.11 just a few minutes ago goes with what I'm trying out. If I have reboots, I'll try the radio thing and/or a custom kernal...

Thanks for alerting me to the other "very disgruntled" thread. I just posted some "hope" over there for the OP :)

I appreciate the compliment. But tenacity?? Doesn't everyone have a week and 12+ hours a day to figure this out?? :D:D;)

Yep, NOT A PROBLEM FOR ME on Tommy's Classic...thanks for the head's up on that ROM. I got a WORKING NON-REBOOTING nand in my back pocket!!! :D:D

And interesting that you have reboots on non-partitioned cards. I'll keep that in mind. I could deal with one or two or even MORE a day...but the few in a matter of MINUTES is killing me... :(:(

o.k. here is another new and weird issue from the reboots

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and it was on the go launcer screen. I hit the home button to go back to the sense screen and it wasn't there. I have no sense apps or widgets. I keep hitting the home button and it stays on the go launcher.

pulled battery and rebooted still no sense version. do I have to reinstall mikg or just go to a new ROM. again I need a sense ROM.

What I think you did was to somehow choose your Go Launcher as your DEFAULT launcher app when you hit the home screen.

Go to the Market (Google Play) and download this app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.homesmack

When you launch this app, you'll be able to choose between the Sense launcher and the Go Launcher AND redefine your default setting for the home key.

I think that is what you did and the app will help...

I mighta jumped the gun a bit...assuming that you might want a "Home Switcher" type app to choose between Sense or Go or Launcher Pro. If you don't want that app above, go to your Home

I feel like most people just leave it at "crap, this ROM is giving me issues... time to find another".

If you actually do come across what is causing this for people many would find it very helpful.

Nope...but headed there after my current little test

Questions...

First where do I find out the versions of what I have?? I don't have my phone on me as I type...is it Home —> Menu —> Settings —> About phone??

Also, I've never flashed a radio or updated PRI or Wimax or anything...do I just follow this guide here:

Radio Update - 1/21/2012 - 2.15.00.12.19

And if I have a problem do I just flash back?? Where do I get "my old ones" back to reinstall and how do I do so??
Yes to where to find radios, it is listed as baseband number.

Theres a thread over on XDA with all of them listed out. I believe the OP is missing the most current due to caulkin not really being around.

Radios are flashed through bootloader, PRI/NV through recovery.

NEVER pull the battery during a radio flash (or have it fall out, make sure the back of the phone is on). You WILL brick your phone.

EDIT: Rx ninja'd me!! :D

Yeah, that guide will work, Cookiemonster knows what he's doing. ;) I'd flash the combo thats at the bottom, radio, wimay, PRI and NV all together. Make sure you nandroid before and you have almost a full charge, lots 'o battery. While flashing do not under any circumstances pull the battery, possible trip to brick city my friend.

Sorry that the NoLimit Rom didn't work for you. It's been great for me.

Glad to hear that the Classic 0.5 worked!

I do wonder though if it could be an issue with the 4.67 Roms and your phone? The MikG 3.1 and Nolimit are both on the newest OTA 4.67. Tommie's is based off of 4.54.

Naters

MikG3.0 was out before 4.67 dropped, so I assume that rules that out as long as the problems were still occurring with 3.0.

Also, mikG is a port from another device mixed in with our own.

Awesome man. That fixed it. Don't know how I did it but that worked.

Now I am going to try that under volt and see if MikG 3.1 still reboots.

Yeah, quick little flick of your finger over the "default" checkbox and you're done! Glad it worked.

And as a "thanks" ;) please, PLEASE let us know if the undervolt helps your/our/my reboot issue!! I'm currently running MikG 3.11 for the LONGEST period of time I have in the past week WITHOUT a reboot but not quite confident enough to disclose what I'm doing. Actually I'm not quite sure whattheHELL I'm doing so THAT is why I'm disclosing it!!:D I gotta collect my thoughts and really see if I'm in better shape than before. Also a couple other lose ends I'm not so sure I can make conclusions about...yet. We'll see what's up tomorrow.

Let us know about the undervoltage!!

Scudder, I may be way off but I'm just trying to help.
After you've set stuff back up and it reboots does it continually do it like every hour or something? It's not the reboot that goes with app being moved to the SD via A2sd?

Hey Nater...sorry for missing this question. As you can probably see, this is NOT the as2d app move type of reboot...just the "hot reboot" little quick flashes without the full shutdown/restart.

Could it be an EVO version specific problem? Wasn't there some other app or rom or somethingthat didn't like some phone version?

Interesting that you bring this up. I recall something somewhere like you...app or ROM or something...that was EVO hardware-version-specific or intolerant or something.

I'm using hardware version 0002. What's everyone else using??...both those with problems and without??
