Root Miui Problem Sorted. Opefully!

I found one oddity, which seems to affect both Xmas (with DeFroST) and the 2.37 kernel with GingerVillain. I normally run in 2G with data off, enabling both 3G and data when needed, which may be an unusual usage pattern but works for me. As such I notice how long it takes to start 3G data. And what I found was that both seem slightly slower in enabling data than most, but where with other kernels it switches to 3G shortly after data connection is first made, the Vork kernels seem to stick with GPRS for some time (some minutes). A shame, because otherwise they seem rather nice.

(Edit: with GingerVillain I tested this with 2 different kernels a few minutes apart in the same location).

Just curious about whether I'm the only one who's seen this?
 
i never turn my data off or switch to 2g unless its automatic as i try to use it as the phone is intended so i havent noticed it.
 
Yeah, I'm guessing that'll be the case for a lot of people. But where I work 3G indoors is too weak to be useful - enough to maybe waste power switching every now and then, but no more - and even at home it's immensely weaker than 2G. Plus I have WiFi at both. Hence most days I only have a use for mobile data when travelling, and so turn it on and off as needed.

I guess I could probably automate that with Tasker, but having read the documentation that sounds a lot more work than modding the phone ;)

You have tabs of triggers. One for time, day, location, event and one more I forget.

Choose your trigger and create a profile for it. Within this profile, select an action.

You can even set delays and multiple actions per trigger


Eg @ 10:00, Mon-fri, turn on mobile data, wait 10 minutes, turn off mobile data
 
Well my little network glitch occurred with a different (previously unproblematic) kernel today, which makes me suspect there might be another cause and Vork might just have been unlucky. So I'm giving the Vork 2.37 another chance, since it seems rather nice in other respects so I kinda want it to work.

Standby current drain with all of these kernels seems just slightly higher than I could get with DF. Need a bit longer to evaluate real-world lifetime.
