Root MIUI? What do you think?

I have been putting off trying out this ROM, maybe cause is different, maybe cause its a bit to iPhone, IDK. But it was mentioned when I was googling about rom battery life, so I started reading about it. And while it seems like not a lot of people use it, the ones that do swear by it. So I think I might give it a try. I know I could always use anaother launcher if the iPhone feel bugs me, but I have also seen a theme that I really like for it that is less iPhoneish. But I wanted to see if anybody around her had any opinions of it. Good or bad?

i tried it and did not like it. plus i'm now in a place where i can use 4g now. so that rom is a no go for me. i did like cm7 and it seemed more smoother and faster for me. and with the tiamat kernel that rom/kernel combo gave 18-35 on moderate to heavy use. oh how i miss it though.lol might have to go try the new 7.1 stable version. lol

Back when I first tried it, it was one of the first 2.3 roms that was stable enough to run. I wasn't a fan of the ios-like launcher though and after a day or so of using LP+ on it I was ready to try something different. If you haven't at least tried it I suggest you at least load it up and play with it for a few minutes. Just be ready to nandroid back if you don't like it.

It's such a work of art though that I think everyone should at least try it out just to appreciate the hard work that went into it.

Yeah I just realized it didn't have 4g, kind of a bummer. Think I will hold off for now I guess. Maybe thats the reason I have been ignoring it, and it just slipped my mind, idk.

Yeah 18-35 hours sounds kind of nice, lol. I got close to 18 hours one day on one of evokings kingdom roms. But other days its been a lot less. I've heard MikG is good for battery life too.

yeah i'm loving my 4g now. i use it to tether to my laptop now so i can't see me using it on a daily basis. but i hear that the new one that just came out is pretty sweet besides the fact that they still do not have 4g yet. they keep saying that they are working on it. but i wonder? i suggest that you at least try it out. that way you have a basis for comparison. i was on it for like a day and a half then i flashed cm7 and i was immediately hooked, especially with the tiamat kernel.

Besides Myn's 2.2 when I first rooted, MIUI was my longest running rom for a while. I think I went over a month on it (flashaholic), but the latest one didn't set well with me. I was going to try a launcher a week to find one I liked, but I was getting insane FCs all the time with the lastest MIUI. But It's pretty insane the different customizations that android supports. All the launchers, themes. Pretty awesome when you think about it.

Pseudo-Review:
The first thing that hits you is how much like Apple's iOS it is. The menus are all changed too. No app drawer. Like iOS, all apps are scattered on the home screens. (This was the deal breaker for me, but you can get other launchers) There are some nice features, such as a firewall and network monitor app built in.

PROS:
* iOS look
* extra apps

CONS:

*no 4g (but not everyone has it so...)
*no app drawer
*settings are harder to navigate due to applied theme.
----
hope that helps, by the way, I'm on cm7 now.

I tried it and I like it but w/no 4G, that is a dealbreaker. I am on EVO Decks rom and also just tried Kinged Kingdom RLS 2. Lot of flashing this week!

I flashed the newest miui, had it running for 5 min. Then did a superwipe to get that crap off my phone. Lol great Dev work and all but gosh. Iphone-losing. Aosp-winning.

I used it long ago and liked it. It was before the newest 3.0/GB ROMs we have, so MIUI's notification drop down/quick settings were actually better than Sense's or CM7's IMO. Though it was pretty iOS-ish, it was still a completely new look for anyone who likes to flash ROMs, had themes to change it from being an exact iPhone replica, and overall great work by the devs. If anything, it was funny to show off to iPhone users LOL I didn't do a full wipe prior to flashing it, so i had problems with MMS/SMS, and other random FC's so i reverted back to Myn's 2.2. Think i may try the newest one again one day and see what's up. No 4G means nothing to me, we don't have 4G in this state anyways...

I think the power widgets in the notification area of the past version I was using (one of the first GB MIUI roms) was insane. I loved it. Wish every rom had it. The whole drawer is full of widgets for power options. The new version removes the bottom row and adds a brightness slider (only if you have it set for Auto-Bright OFF, though).

I've felt like a real flashaholic because I've been going back to nandroids for sms backups and stuff like that that I forget. lol. Need to flash more roms, and less nandroid IMO.

I flashed this ROM knowing that I couldn't use it as a daily driver but wanted to see what all of the talk was about. I'll admit, this ROM is beautiful, someone put a lot of hard work into the UI and it shows. However, the lack of 4G is a deal breaker because 3G is slower than dial-up in my area. I'll have to keep an eye on the development of this ROM and will jump at the chance to re-flash it once 4G is implemented.

yeah they keep sayng that 4g will come, but i have yet to see it happen. i really do not think that they will get it to work. but who knows. i guess you should never say never.

Its hard for me to find a launcher that is better than GO. When I ran MIUI a few weeks ago it was a very stable rom. It had decent looks to it but I took about 5 minutes before I put GO launcher on it. I think that you should try it and see what your experience is. I have had different experiences with some ROMs than other people have claimed. Battery life is handled by the Kernel. And their are way to many variables to tell someone if they are going to have decent battery life just because I did. Remember Do a Nandroid Backup before flashing also run Titanium Backup before and back your sd card up to your computer. If using a program like a2sd (Not App2SD) then make sure you have a copy of the zip file to flash after you flash the rom. You will also need Gapps if memory serves me correctly (Most ASOPS DO, I think Xplod is the only one that does not). The latest version can be found on the Roms and Kernels page.

Happy Flashing

I agree. I love miui, and think that the UI used is awesome, just too much like iphone for my tastes.

Installing ADW on it turned it into my rom of choice for several weeks (though, I too found the lack of 4g to be too big of an issue).

(Not sure why MIUI doesn't have 4g, when most other AOSP roms have it...?)

Unless you use the MIUI launcher, I'm not really sure why you would want to change the launcher. Case in point is 4G, flash another AOSP rom with working 4G and then use whatever launcher you like;)

MIUI is a well built rom but my fondness to this rom is the way it looks. It's different from any other rom out there, imo:)

Yea, hopefully 4G will work one day but since it's closed source, probably not going to happen any time soon

The MIUI ROM is from Chinese developers and 4G doesn't exist in China. As far as I know the MIUI ROMs that we see in other countries are copies/ports of the original MIUI ROM, and the copies/ports won't get 4G until the original gets it.. which may be never.

MIUI is a very stable, very polished ROM. It doesn't have the issues that plague so many ROMs, such as instability or flaky/inconsistent behavior. The lack of 4G isn't a huge issue for me because the nearest 4G tower is 30 miles from me (c'mon, Sprint! Let's get those towers deployed!). The fact that it is like IOS is neither a plus nor a minus for me. The fact that the built in launcher does not rotate is a small irritant, so I launch ADW if I'm going to use my phone as a desk clock. Other than that, I use the built in launcher.
The biggest plus, and this is what keeps me with MIUI, is the awesome battery life.

I keep my stock ROM on my SD card. If I'm travelling into a 4G area and going to be there for a few days, I just use ROM Manager to restore my stock ROM. Other than that, I use the MIUI ROM. I love the fact that I can use it for almost 20 hours without a recharge. I can't get 8 hours out of my stock ROM.

I highly recommend giving it a shot.

I just found an odexed version of MIUI that lithid posted, going to give it a run soon. Hopefully it's even faster than the official miui build:)

i thought the same thing u did, too much like iphone for my taste, so what i did was run launcher Pro, problem solved! same polished look, but gives it enough of an android feel.

i dont have 4g coverage so i dont really care about that. and im running the latest tiamat with it, super smooth, i couldnt tell u about battery life till ived been using it for more than an day
