Root [MOD] CWM touch 6.0.1.1 Install

So, just so I am getting this correctly.. so in order to use you the new backup on a separate phone or to backup to a computer I'd have to copy the blob file also?

I'll try running a backup to my test phone if I get time tonight.. gonna have to use the non touch version though as the digitizer is wonky (dead spots) .. Will post results..

See this is the thing. The blob folder holds files for all the backups and its not files you can simply copy over. Thers a lot. When you do a restore the restore will go into the blobs folder and find the files associated with the backup. You deleted a backup, those files will be deleted once they are not found. So there is really no way to copy the individual files from blob unless you copied the whole thing. You could still copy the backups but you cant run a restore because if a backup is missing it will delete those files from blob. make sense? its just like a windows backup that runs automatically.

Glad you brought that up cause I never even though of that.

So Im not so sure Im fully in love with the new CWM and its new style and ways of backing up ROMs. If you want to store your backups onto your PC, not only do you have to copy the actual backup but you also have to copy the ENTIRE blobs folder which can be up to a gig or more in size. Where as before you just copied the backup and that was it. Now all the information about the backup is store in the blobs folder in some unreadable format. Before I could go into a backup on my computer and pull something out of the system portion or the data portion of the backup. Like if I had a certain app that was only on one of my back ups, I could go in and pull that app out. I cant do that now.

it seems the only advantage to having the new CWM is that you can now have touch and the way the backup system works now IS nice but it has too many faults. It does save space if you make a lot backups but I would sacrifice the space like we did before If I could easily save the backups to my pc and be able to go in and extract various things from the backups.

I am torn. Im not sure what I want to do. Either stay on 5.0.2.8 and be able to save all my backups on my pc and only keep the most recent on my phone and also be able to extract info from the backups OR have touch and a clean UI and save some room on my sd by using the new format. Im leaning towards just going back to 5.0.2.8 but Im just not sure yet.

Maybe we will get lucky and they will incorporate touch into the old style of backing up. Too many cons come with the new CWM.

Is it really worth upgrading to?

BTW, they fixed the Esteem and Esteem 4G now... I finally got to upgrade to 6.0.1.1 using ROM Manager... Yay!

From what my understanding of touch would basically mean, the UI of recovery is better? Instead of using the volume and lock button, its an actual touch UI?

That would be correct

Hmm... pretty cool. I think for only 1.99 it would be worth buying. Gotta support the devs! :) I thought google play was charging like 6 bucks for it.

No rom manager premium is like 6 bucks. But really the free version is just as good for us. He just has it set up to where you can't download roms from it on the weekends :D

I think the $6 is for ROM manager premium. :)

Ah okay... for sure, I thought it was for the touch... that's cool. It might be worth it, I don't mind using the buttons but I can see where if you had a small screen it would be kinda nuts trying to read it!

I hate using the buttons. I'm surprised no one's buttons have died yet Ahaha so much easier and faster to just tap the screen

Oh, I agree... and all I gotta say is DAAAYYUMMM! Touch is sick, I just got it and it's hella nice... I like it. I'm running a backup right now and it was very user friendly... I was wondering why it wasn't touch from the start.
