Root *MORE* Reliable root for leakers has been found

Well, I loaded Evil Eris 3. It kept all my settings. And, I overclocked - Not seeing much difference there, though...

OK, back from lunch and here's what happened (for those of you who are waiting with baited breath).

Tried to adb push the Evil Eris zip, gave up after 10 minutes of nothing happening - said screw it and moved the file via windows.
Issued runindos command at 12:49, at 12:54 the softkey lights flashed, at 12:59 I aborted the process.
Rebooted the phone, convinced it to go back into USB debugging mode (it didn't want to at first). At 1:04 issued runindos command, at 1:04 the phone rebooted into recovery mode with all those spiffy commands - wow, root!

Did a nand backup, tried to 'install from zip' the Evil Eris zip and it told me the file was corrupt. Not sure if that's a bad download or because I moved it via Windows (*I* wouldn't think the method of transport would make a difference..)
So I get to mess with how to actually load a new rom, but at least I'm rooted. :)

i tried to flash white widow and got stuck in a boot loop. i went back to amon ra recovery and did a wipe, dalvik wipe. then removed white widow and replaced it with evil eris. all is good now.

also, do not extract the zip file. just drag and drop it into your sd card. then rename it update.zip.

I did the runindos.bat and then it took me to a bunch of options and I clicked install from sd card thing and it installed Evil Eris 3.0... so can someone tell me how to flash a different rom? Do I just do runindos.bat again and then click install from sd card and install a ROM that I have put on my sd card? I know this question has been answered in advance so sorry haha.

I did the runindos.bat and chose to install the Evil Eris Rom from my sd card and it looked like it was installing everything and then it rebooted and now its just on a black screen but the screen is on.. what do I do?

ok i've been at this for about 3 hours with no luck. every time i try to push the file i get when the file is in the tools directory.

any ideas what could be going wrong? I'm on a mac by the way if that makes a difference.

You need to be in the tools directory before you can use a command.

I put my android-sdk-mac_86 folder on my desktop. If it is in another place, replace that with desktop.

Do these commands 1 by 1 in Terminal:

cd desktop
cd android-sdk-mac_86
cd tools

Now you can start doing any command you want. I was seriously stuck on this part for 5 hours until some helpful person on XDA helped me.

thanks a lot i got it to work... except now because of my faulty trackball i can't load the file on my phone itself. oh well, off to verizon tomorrow to get a replacement.

you just download the new rom to your computer. then transfer the zip file to your phones sd card. do not extract it. just drop the zip file to the sd card. then rename it update.zip.

from amon ra recovery select update.zip and the new rom will load. it takes a while but it will load.

How do I access Armon Recovery image? Hold on the red button and volume down? I got Evil Eris 3.0 running perfectly now.

Well void my first question.. because I clicked install from sd card and clicked on the Evil Eris rom and it successfully installed it and then it reset and came to the first screen I always see when I boot my phone up then it went to a black screen, the screens still on but its just a blank black screen... is that supposed to happen?

It will be like that when you flash a ROM and boot to it for the very first time. If the time to boot exceeds, say, 10 minutes, or if the phone is continuously rebooting, then you should do a Wipe before you flash the ROM. But make sure that you have done at least a NAND backup before you wipe. Wipe meaning, in Amon_RA's recovery image, you will go to the "Wipe" menu and do a "Wipe data/factory reset" and "Wipe Dalvik-cache". Chances are, you will not need to do this wipe.

Basically, this is to say that the first time you boot after you flash a new ROM will take a considerable amount of time to complete, but the next time you boot will not take as long.

With the phone powered off, press and hold Volume Down and the red Power button, then press Volume Up (when it's ready) to go into Recovery.

Im kinda stuck on this. When i run the runindos.bat and it come up with the screen for half a second and goes off. It says adb not recognized and thats all i can see before it closes. Anyone know whatsup with it?

Rooted, thanks to XDA! Using Eris Official Alpha 1.0, works wonderfully! Will root my wife's phone next using the same ROM.

What directory do you have runindos.bat in? If you are using Windows, I would recommend moving the files contained in the hack folder (there are 5 files) to C:\android-sdk-windows\tools or wherever you have your Android SDK's Tools directory.

ok i got all that to work, and i run the runindos.bat and it reboots my eris, but it justs boots up normally. is that whats supposed to happen, or was it supposed to go into recovery?

Yes, it will reboot a total of 2 times. The first time it will reboot normally, and the second reboot will reboot into recovery.

its not necessary to rename the zip file to update.zip..... when you flash from SD in amon ra it will give you a choice of all available zips in the root of your SD............

its better to leave the rom its original name on the SD so you can tell them apart if you put multiple roms on there to try......

you can just press volume up and power button to go straight to amon ra..... no need to go through the bootloader first

That's normal for EE, especially on the first boot after a flash. Even after several reboots, EE doesn't have a boot screen for me.

Process was fairly painless. Took me longer to get adb to work with the drivers. Once I modded the driver file everything worked great. Opted at this point to go with just the SU engineering tools.

Downloaded a screen shot tool and it worked. Asked me for SU access and it capped my screens.

Very nice.

Anyone know of a place where I can view screenshots of the various roms that are out there?

H.

Cool, it seems to have worked. Running low on space now, can anyone tell me how to remove the ROM so i can get the space back?

Okay, so I've been lurking these forums for awhile dealing with the MULTIPLE Eris issues. I had to register just to say how freaking much I love root. The entire process took me about 10 minutes (half that time was waiting for the phone to boot up).

Awesome job to everyone who worked on this.

MY PHONE WORKS LIKE A PHONE NOW!!

If you're hesitant to do this, don't be. SO worth it.
