Root *MORE* Reliable root for leakers has been found

We have all been waiting for this post! :D

First Caddyman. Next Frisco. Then you. Tomorrow, the world.

Congrats and welcome to root! :)

The great thing is that you have learned just about all there is to know about an unrooted Eris, then you are pushed into noob land again. It's fun to learn the new possibilities while rooted.

Yep, checked there - no joy.

I've tried EE, Ivans and ummm.... one other, the name of which escapes me now - all of the failed validation, but on a different file (they show which file in the zip is corrupt).

I'm about to try a different SD card to see if that makes a difference - crossed fingers.

Makes me wonder if you are somehow not rooted all the way. Did you try to run the root process again? You may even try wiping and going back to fresh RUU...then re-root from there.

The problem was with his sd card. He used a different sd card and was successful.

It almost makes the "traditional" (original) rooting method look complicated... :)

I completely agree with that. I asked a mod to un-sticky the original root method and sticky this instead, because it's much simpler and works on any Eris regardless of hboot version. The original method was clunky: It involved a huge PB00IMG file that was easily mistaken for others, it was difficult to get a Nandroid backup of the original system, it installed the test 2.1 rom from HTC which was buggy, and it *required* wiping all of your data. I'm thankful that it existed, but I'll never again suggest rooting with the old method now that the new method is available. Also, if the old method hadn't been dropped in our laps by HTC, it's possible that the devs would have discovered the new method much sooner.

I think I am going to cry. I installed EvilEris 3.0 and no my SDcard has been wiped. I lost EVERYTHING! All the pictures of my kids, my music, audiobooks, ebooks, txt messages, app data an even my nand backup. I am freaking out. The backup I made of my card isn't working either. Does anyone know of a way to recover any of this info?

Yes. Google "recuva" or "photorec" and try one of those programs to recover the data. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T ADD NEW DATA TO THE CARD! If neither of those free programs works, you might have to use GetDataBack for FAT, which is expensive but worth it.

I think that jcase's engineering bootloader is the best method since his instructions get you rooted and replace the bootloader. As long as you nandroid prior to using the PB00IMG file to get the unlocked bootloader you can restore your nand backup and you're good to go. I ran into a problem last night where I needed unlocked bootloader.

Thank you, I am running recuva right now. I will buy and use GetDataBack if I have to.

Edit: It looks like it is finding everything.....THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Missed that...great news! Funny SD card story for me. I got a replacement phone because of a trackball issue and I was immediately took it out of the box to root it. Struggled with the usb driver install, but finally got it worked out, added the correct code, etc. Then, couldn't figure out why the hell the phone wouldn't boot into recovery. Did a manual boot into recovery and then it wouldn't allow me to USB toggle. Was frustrated as hell until I realized that I had forgotten to move the SD card from my old phone. Gotta have that!

I'm bookmarking this post in case this ever happens to me. BTW, I'm glad to hear that you got everything back.

Nestor rocks! I've played the "stump theNestor" game and couldn't do it! :) [aren't these forums great, or what?]

This is one of the reasons I love this place so much.

Well, I am going to be doing regular backups of my SDcard from now on, just in case this does happen again. Nice to know that there is a solution though.

That's pretty good! :D

I was leery of repyling earlier until OfTheDamned got her /sdcard issues squared-away (didn't want to jinx her :))...glad for both of you!

I do that now but not often enough. Definitely wouldn't want to lose pics of my baby girl that were taken with the phone.

Yeah, I've had some bad experiences with memory cards in digital cameras, so that's why I was quick to answer.

A friend had this happen to her in her camera, and the guy at Best Buy said, "nothing you can do," and then he reformatted her card and sent her off to take more pictures with it. By the time she asked me about it, I could only recover half the pictures because of that guy's bad advice.

Worked perfectly using OS X.

Rooted 2.1v3 and installed wifi tether :)

Wow, NKT, YOU were running a leak? ...say it wasn't so... :D

[p.s., thanks for getting all of the 2.1 "fun" started...its been a ride :)...I can't tell you how many times I almost pulled the leak trigger...lol...soooo tempting...]

Yes, unfortunately many blame me for the whole 2.1vX leak root issues...

Not realizing that I may perhaps be in the same boat ;)

Well, now it's safe for me to come out of hiding more often

Hi guys, I followed this tutorial and got this to work. I decided to just to the Evil Eris 3.0 ROM. Everything seems to be working except I have a warning in the notification area saying "Low on space. Phone storage space is getting low". Now what do I do?

**Forgot to wipe the device before I installed the new rom. Did it again with wipe first and it works great now!

That's just silly. Glad that you can come out of hiding. I appreciate that you gave us 2.1 way before it was released. How were any of us to know that a root method would be dropped the next week? Most of us had guessed that this thing wasn't gonna be rooted, devs included!

yes, recuva is one of the best free tools out there, I've got 2 other apps that are paid if they dont find all your data. the deep inspection cycle gets just about everything (assuming you didn't write data to the "blank" card. good luck getting it all back

So, after running out of steam trying to tackle this project last night (adb took forever to install on my crappy laptop and I fell asleep waiting,) I finally got down to it tonight.

I cannot believe how incredibly easy this whole process was. Once I got everything in the proper directory I just followed the steps word for word and it worked for me the first time, no issues at all.

Running EEv3.0 right now, and just tinkering with stuff for fun. So far, I'm amazed and impressed. Kept all my settings and data just fine.

I back up my SD card to my computer every time I make a change that I don't want to loose or have to do over. Such as taking pictures, adding music or books - that sort of thing.

And then, because I'm truly paranoid, I back up that same data (and some that only lives on my computer) to not one but TWO different external drives.
Can you say 'geek'...

I alternate SD cards. New OS doesn't get to see my good card until I know it works (if you call the leaks new OS's)

Running Suave Smush now. Very Nice
