Root *MORE* Reliable root for leakers has been found

Ok

I DL'd the SDK, installed the packages, installed hot sync. Windows 32 bit Vista said adb installed successfully reboot required. I re-booted. I moved evil eris over to my sd card all things seem great. Got drive package 3 update and everything.

So I'm getting an error of device not found after runindos.bat.... Clearly it's a driver issue, yeah?

Now when I USB debugging on I can't get it to pull up anything that says drivers updating.

The error I get is device not found about 5 lines worth then the reboot info and then immediatly device not found.

SOOOO...where to I go from here?

I tried adb devices and to see what's on and I get nothing but another error!

Please help I feel so close!!!

Ok. I use this phone as a work phone. I'm actually a reporter for a local television station in the midwest and NEED this thing to work like a phone when I need to make a call, no questions asked. So far, I've been lucky. I've had some minor call/dialer issues, but nothing serious and think my hardware is "the good stuff."

I think the time has come to root. I'm leak v3 and this method seems to be easier than the whole "pull and pray" method with your micro sd card.

I'll report back on the other side.

lol, i'm sure you'll report back sooner than that. ;)

Midaeris Type ADB devices if it shows your phone under list of devices attached its not a driver problem.

EDIT: sorry missed the fact you tried adb devices. You are in your sdk's tools folder correct?

Check your junk mail/spam folder.

Yep, checked there - no joy.

Have you tried to flash another ROM? Ivan's for example?

I've tried EE, Ivans and ummm.... one other, the name of which escapes me now - all of the failed validation, but on a different file (they show which file in the zip is corrupt).

I'm about to try a different SD card to see if that makes a difference - crossed fingers.

Well, I did two things differently (bad debugging, should have done them one at a time to see which fixed the problem).

1) I used a different SD card.
2) I plugged the SD directly into my computer to transfer the file, rather than having the card in my phone and mounting the phone to the computer.

The EE rom appears to have installed correctly, I'm in the several-minutes-of-blackness part of the reboot now.

When you moved the EE ROM to your SD card, did you push it through adb or did you move it through windows? Also, if you could give us a line by line list of the errors you're getting, and the steps that you took to get where you are with adb, it will help us narrow down the things that could be causing problems.

There's no doubt your 8 year old could have done it - it's the 40 year olds that might have a problem... :)

amen to that. I cant even figure ou thow to get the sdk to work on my comp i got to the part where you update the usb driver and thats when ita all fell apart. will have to start over during the weekend on a diff computer. im thinking that since everyone is saying how easy this is, and im strugglin, root might not be for me. I ll just upgrade in oct. the new samsung facinate has my name alllll over it lol:o

Sorry, my eyes were barely open when I made my last reply. So it appears that you DO have adb running properly. When you moved the EE ROM to your SD card, did you push it through adb or did you move it through windows? Also, if you could give us a line by line list of the errors you're getting, and the steps that you took to get where you are with adb, it will help us narrow down the things that could be causing problems.

When I type adb devices in cmd I get: adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or bat file

I have moved the hack tools folder contents into the sdk tools folder. My phone is set to debug and charge only.

When I search adb on my comp I get a list of plugins and such...when I run

cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools and then runindos.bat I get:

error: device not found
x6 more lines
Files copied and permissions set, rebooting android HTC 2.1
Your phone will now reboot..........
error: device not found

Any ideas? Gotta be something simple on my end I'm just not seeing? Thanks!

I moved it through windows to the SD card and it was the EE rom...I did not push it.

I'm thinking an uninstall of hot sync and the SDK and a fresh install?

Yeah, you might need to try re-installing the driver. Once installed correctly "adb devices" should return something like:

"List of devices attached

HDOUTWE9723N Device"

Once you can get that far, then you can start worrying about what comes next. :)

Thanks for the help Synth - I'm headed to work for a few hours, west coast time, I'll reinstall the drivers and such this afternoon and try it again! :D

Edit: Making my post go away - after re-reading some of what's above, what I thought it might be can't be the problem... :)

I just went through the last few pages and the only thing that I don't think I saw mentioned was wiping your Dalvik cache. I don't think that would make the ROM fail verification, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Ok, that was painless. I guess I am rooted now.

Heh, yeah, it really is that painless. :) I just rooted mine last night and overclocked it this morning with the EvilEris ROM. I'm so happy to have my little Eris improved because I don't want to get one of those other monstrosities they call smart phones.

We have all been waiting for this post! :D

First Caddyman. Next Frisco. Then you. Tomorrow, the world.

Congrats and welcome to root! :)

You forgot to insert the evil laugh.:D

I followed the steps that jcase posted to root my wife's phone last night and it was a walk in the park!!
