I just got this live wallpaper called gravity home. It allows you to put usable app icons on the screen that move around the screen based how you hold the phone. It works great for me.

Financisto, a wonderful financial app and its free :) I donated to it anyway, but it is free.

It fills the screen just like it did on my old MyTouch 3G. The app itself can have unlimited account creation. It can export to multiple formats and saves so it can be moved to a new phone without issue. It tallies amounts as you go. You can also schedule payments on it for later and it shows those as pending. Budgeting is also a part of the app.

In short, it has replaced my financial tools on the computer. I can save it here. Export it, open that file and send it out to my printer to file in my actual records.

I love this phone!

Boat Browser. Screeming fast, nice layout, large text by defult. LOVE IT

WOW!

I'm trying it now and this is one nice browser!

Having a little initial trouble with the copy markers, but I bet I'll get the hang of it.

And I stopped counting how many open windows I have right now.

My new default browser!

Looks like Flext9 is on sale for 1.99 at the Amazon app store. Now I can finally compare it to SwiftKey X, which is what I am currently using. Will come back to this later.
So after thorough usage of swiftkey x and Flext9 I believe the clear winner for me is Flext9. It has amazing word prediction with more choices to choose from than swiftkey. It also uses the powerful combo of swype, although seemingly not as accurate as the original swype. The word prediction choices more than compensate for that though. My speed is also much quicker on Flext9. Oh, and did i mention
Flext9 uses dragon for voice text? As if Flext9 wasn't already the winner, this is just the cherry on top. Please understand that this post is my opinions alone and is not intended to influence or persuade others. Also, I have no incentive to boast one application over another and thus my opinions are strictly unbiased.

I love Flex T9 and i speak most of my text and emails too and think Dragon Dictation works awesome. But I did get the free Swiftkey X and I just haven't tried it yet. Cause I love Flex T9. Eventually I will though.

Wifi Analyzer is an app I use all of the time. 5 years ago nobody in live theater environments (where I set up equipment) had wifi. Now it's really hard to find a reasonably clear channel. Wifi Analyzer has been a lifesaver and I don't have to lug the laptop round to see what's going on.

Tasker :)

I also love Pulse, and Springpad for news and notes.

Wapedia is an awesome wikipedia app, better than the official one.

And depending on if I like Sense or not, I'll probably get ADW EX or just flash it to CM7/MIUI.

Oh, and JuiceDefender.

I have been using Astrid for a while but never really thought it was great - a lot of times the alerts would not work unless I rebooted my phone - so it didn't wow me. Saw this recommendation for Springpad and had never heard of it - so checked it out. Just unbelievable. I don't think there is anything it can't do - for example, I was doing my emails and just remembered something I had to do. Didn't have to go and log in to Springpad - nope - just sent an email to my springit address "go to costco" and within seconds, there it was - in my springpad application both online and on my phone. You can set alerts by due date and time - but remember, I have only spent 5 minutes on it - so I doubt I know all the great things it can do but I have to say this is the best app I have found so far - it knocks Astrid into a cocked hat. thanks Ebolamonkey

has anyone tried the EasyTether app? it is 9.99 and claims to be usable for non-root users?
On my htc Hero I have used Easy Tether - I think there are two versions. The one I used is "lite", so I can surf the web but no access to emails (gmail, yahoo etc.) or banks (cannot log in to any secure website) - if you pay the $9.99 apparently you can access all these sites - on those rare occasions when I have not had internet access, I have used it - I found it much easier to use than any of the other tethering apps, it is very simple and straight forward and works very well. I'm toying with upgrading to the paid version because it has been frustrating to be able to use the internet, but can't check emails. I also couldn't use faxzero.com using easy tether lite - so maybe that's part of it - not able to access any communication websites. But it's great - and when I active my Evo 3d next week, that's the first app I am going to download. FYI, I used easy tether on my Hero before it was rooted and after it was rooted - and no problems at any time. GREAT APP.

I'd like to put in my suggestion for best keyboard: SwiftKey

It's a normal qwerty keyboard that accurately predicts what word you are going to type next, or guesses it after just one or two letters. it learns from all the text messages you send.

One of my favourite apps because it just makes typing soo much quicker. I much prefer it to swype! :)

Just have to agree here - I've tried a number of keyboards, including Swype - and just didn't dig it. I found Swiftkey very easy to use and the predictability that it uses - it's pretty amazing, better than the other apps' predictions - highly recommend it.

+1 on Swiftkey, my fav.
Me too - been using it since I got my htc Hero many moons ago - and think Swifkey is the best keyboard around - love it. Can't wait to start using it on my new Evo 3d which I active next week woo hooooooo!!!

I've been hearing about boat browser I may have to try it. I got the free Car Locator from Amazon the other day. And I use Sound Hound similar to Shazaam and there is also one called Hound where you can speak any song to find out info. Well last night I got in to now and you press a green button on your phone while your TV is on and it tells you what your watching with the info and gives you the option to tweet it or FB it. I just thought it was neat.

boat browser
stitcher radio
google music
traffic cameras

Love these apps - had them on my HTC Hero and will load them to my new Evo3d. Have also included some of the developers' names where I can, in case there are different apps with the same name. Most of them are free.

1. gps essentials (mictale.com) - for those of us stupid enough to own boats and want a GPS location/chart plotter on our phones - this works VERY well

2. alarm clock (pluto software)

3. astrid (not wild about it - especially since I heard about Springpad which looks AMAZING) - this is a task manager

4. b-folders (joint logic) - GREAT memo/notepad app that syncs with your computer, similar to what I had with my Palm Pilot (Desktop Manager). Had to pay (I think around $30) for the full version but it was the ONLY software program at the time that did everything I wanted. Well worth the money spent, and trust me, I don't pay money out EVER for apps (well, almost never).

5. convertpad unit converter (sunny moon)

6. easytether lite (mobile stream) - don't have the paid version but will probably get it because without it, you can surf the web but not access emails (yahoo, gmail etc.) or bank accounts. You need the full version to access those secure sites, but even the lite version is good - for rooted AND non rooted phones alike.

7. memory (jasper de keltzer) - like the card game where you turn over pairs and have to remember where each one was - a good way to waste time and improve the memory

8. shootme (johan cloetens) - good for taking screenshots of your phone.

9. sms backup (christoph studer) - ever afraid of losing your text messages? Use this and it backs everything up to your gmail accounts - works very well.

10. sms popup (adam k) - nice little addition to receiving text messages whereby the message pops up on the screen (hence the clever name, sms popup).

11. wifi onoff (curvefish) - good little gadget/widget - toggle wifi on and toggle wifi off with just a tap on the screen

12. bluetooth onoff (curvefish) - same as above except turns bluetooth on and off with a tap on the screen

13. silent toggle widget (droidmania) - turns your phone's ringer off so you can have silent or vibrate - just a tap on the screen. For me a big bonus was that it still allows the alarm clock to go on in the morning - so I have my phone on silent all night, so I don't get disturbed by the phone ringing, and then my alarm can still go off.

14. gps onoff (curvefish) - widget to toggle gps on and off with a tap on the screen.

15. solitaire (ken magic) - everyone knows solitaire.

16. stopwatch & timer (sportstracklivecom) - I'm always using this for when my husband is using the grill - TIME ME 4 MINUTES PLEASE TO DO ONE SIDE OF THE STEAK etc. really good.

17. swiftkey x - best kb on the market. Think I paid like $1.99 for this but again, after trying all other keyboards, this was my favorite and still is.

18. uninstaller (rythm software) - free and GREAT for uninstalling your apps. DonB told me about this.

19. vizbattery widget (jeremiah) - tells me how much battery power I have left - free app and works well.

20. wordmix lite (greenrift software) - I just love this - what a great time-waster it is, if you like word games.

21. wordup (same as above) - great time-waster, love it! - loved this but will probably use Sense when I activate my Evo 3d.

22. launcher Pro (also home switcher)

Will try the following on my new Evo 3d (haven't used them yet but they sound really good)

Angry Birds
Gasbuddy
Goodmorning
Radarnow
Springpad (just set it up - looks INCREDIBLE) - great notepad/alert/task manager app

You don't need a task manager. Space isn't an issue. The lowest I've ever seen my 3vo go is 75MB. Usually I sit inbetween 500 - 300 MB RAM free.

that's sort of cool, i'll give it a shot when I get home from work.

I got wordmix to try it. I think I used to have wordup on my EVO. But on Word Mix I clicked on find facebook friends and I logged in and I don't see anything it's a blank white screen. I was wanting to try to play against someone. How does it work? It's fun though after I figured it out.

Gas buddy is a cool app I use alot and I love Foursquare and checking in.

Today is the first time I used the Goodmorning alarm clock to wake up - I had typed in some text for it to say, mainly for the benefit of my husband Phillip, so the first thing I heard was "Rise and shine Phillip and get up and make your lovely wife some breakfast in bed. Aren't you a lucky man to have such a beautiful wife. Yes you are." and then it read the date, day, weather etc. I got SUCH a kick out of it. too bad my husband had already left for work so he didn't hear it but he will tomorrow (Saturday). Seriously - what a GREAT alarm clock!!!!!!
The other one I had was very good and did the job just fine, but this one makes me smile and trust me, as I'm not a morning person, that's a good thing.

**UPDATE** I tried to set another alarm, but it directed me to the paid version - so it seems you can only have one free alarm (even if it's repeated 7 days a week)... so that's not great. May just revert to my old favorite if I can find it, which is Alarm Clock (Pluto software), if I can find it.

Nice, next time you set it up, it will greet you with saying, Good Morning, have a great day and make sure you cook a nice dinner for Don tonight for guiding you in the right direction, LOL :p

Gas buddy is a great little app and you will love it, especially when you go to their website, you can schedule your trip from online and it will calculate all your pit stops and tell you how much you will spend on your trip total in gas.

I love Gas buddy and I always report prices. And I had Good Morning on my old phone and I loved it. It played the beginning of a Journey song and then said Good Morning Rose time to wake up and it was really cute. But towards the end I started using Handcent SMS with the popup and if I snoozed my alarm and a popup came up at same time alarm was supposed to go off it didn't go off anymore. I downloaded Good Morning to my new Evo 3D when I got it but have been using the regular alarm. Today I got Extreme Alarm which I think is similar to GM and I'm gonna try it. It was the free app of the day on Amazon.
