My socks all matched up out of the dryer tonight....

I don't understand how socks "go missing". I just imagine that there's a door in there on the other side(side loading dryers) and certain socks are selected to enter Narnia.

Vihzel get rid of the housekeeper and then you'll learn where they were disappearing :p

Being a practical sort... I have for many years followed digdug1's reasoning. I continue to have missing socks but every other wash I have complete pairs again... just a pair shy. Twenty pair is a good starting number as well. By the time I only have a week's worth of socks...they are ready to be tossed and the cycle is repeated.

From what I understand, there is a small enough hole or slit in the agitator of the washer where socks and slip through and essentially... disappear. Socks don't actually go missing in the dryer because there isn't anything big enough for the socks to go through. A woman suggested to unscrew the top cap of the agitator (if it's top loading) and pull up on something (don't remember what exactly). You'll lift up the agitator and find a lot of socks covering the inside of it.

Are you listening to yourself here Vihzel? That just doesn't make sense man. Therefore there's only one explanation to this whole thing...... gremlins!!!

lol I remember reading it on a website. I read comments from other people saying that it happened to them. It sounds like a viable explanation. My mom never loses socks in our side load washer.

Tell your mom to rotate her washer 90

If you are the type that doesn't sort laundry - the socks wind up in the corners of fitted sheets (which are hard to fold), or stuck in the vanes of the dryer!

Unless you have ferrets - they are inveterate sock snitchers if they can get to the socks.
